:hatsoff2:HI ALL. THIS YEAR WILL BE 50 YEARS OF RARE SOUL, BACK THEN THERE WAS STILL A DEVELOPING YOUTH CULTURE IN THE UK, AFTER ALL IT HAD ONLY BEEN RECOGNISED FOR 10 YEARS OR SO, WITH YOUR TEDDY BOYS, BEATNIKS, BAN THE BOMB LEFT WING STUDENTS, MODS & ROCKERS, HOWEVER IT'S THE MOD SCENE THAT HAS IT'S ROOTS IN US R&B MUSIC AS WELL THE INFLUANCE OF CARABEIAN CULTURE & MUSIC,WHICH DEVELOPED IN CELLERS OF OLD HOUSES IN WHAT WAS THE BLACK AREAS OF LARGE CITYS, FOLLOWING ON FROM THE RIOTS IN SHEPARDS BUSH, THE BLACK MUSIC SCENE WENT UNDERGROUND, AS SUCH THE MODS FOLLOWED, IN LONDON MANY FAMOUS BUT SHORT LIVED CLUBS SERVERD THE BLACK COMMUNITY WITH ALL NIGHT BLUES,GAMBLING HOUSES WHICH PLAYED THE JAMAICAN SOUNDS OF THE DAY, LIKE MOST MUSIC SCENES OF THE DAY DANCE MUSIC IS A THROW AWAY SCENE AS THE DJ WAS THE TOP DOG, TO KEEP THE CLUB RUNNING HIS RECORDS WERE A SECRET AND HE WOULD NOT LET ANYONE KNOW IT'S TRUE IDENTITY PLAYED.

AS THE 6TS MOVED ON THE R&B CLUBS STARTED PLAYING MORE UPBEAT BLACK MUSIC, & EVEM THE NAME CHANGED FROM R&B TO SOUL, SOME PEOPLE FROM TIN PAN ALLEY SAW A MARKET IN BLACK MUSIC THAT WAS NOT IDENTIFYED AS WORTHY OF RADIO PLAY, BUT PEOPLE LIKE RONAN O'RILRY HAD A NEW APPROACH BY PLAYING MUSIC FROM A SHIP, THIS WAS CALLED PIRATE RADIO, CAROLINE, RADIO LONDON TOOK TO THE AIR WAVES FROM 1963 TO 67 WHEN NEW LAWS ON BROADCASTING WERE INTRODUCED, MOST ALLNIGHTERS WERE BY WORD OF MOUTH, THESE WERE LOCATED IN THE NORTH & IN LONDON,WHERE THE FIRST RECOGNISED ALLNIGHTER STARTED, CALLED THE SCENE CUB IN GT WINDMILL STREAT IN SOHO THE MUSIC POLICY WAS A MIXTURE OF US BLACK R&B, JAMAICAN SKA & ROCK STEADY.

I would like to think that we have the passion of the worlds longest running Youth Sub Culture, To celebrate 50 years of rare soul, it would be good if you could make at least once a week to pick a sound that you feel hits your soul, the choice is yours alone, however still dig out those 45s that the night has made you expose it to the world via SOULSOURCE RECORD CLUB 2018.

MY FIRST PICK WILL FOLLOW ON SHORTLEY AS I STILL CAN'T GET MY HEAD AROUND MY PC TRANSFERING MUSIC FROM MY COLLECTION INTO A MUSIC LIBARY, IT'S NOT FARE, ANYWAY PLEASE TRY TO CELABRATE 50+ YEARS OF SOUL. BELOW ARE SOME OF MY MEMORIES OF 50 YEARS, IF YOU HAVE PICTURES OF LAST 50 YEARS THAT RELATE TO THIS THREAD POST THEM PLEASE

got myself a lovely clean copy of the "Second Album" and this sounds amazing on my home system, I hadn't owned the LP before so this was new to me, nice little beat to it

Nice addition to the Album collection shufflin  I rushed out to buy this LP after hearing Is There Anything That I Can Do played out at a Soul Night about four years ago what an awesome Track...

   Crank Up The Volume.....

Great song with a rare lead vocal from Lawrence Payton.  It was released seven years later

as a U.K. B side -

Has anyone played the flip to Lezli Valentine "I'll do Anything" , it's backed with a

beautiful Bert Keys produced, crossover tune ?

Lezli Valentine I've got to keep on Loving You All Platinum 1968

Had an original of The World Column - So Is The Sun arrive that I picked up cheap..

Nice double sider on UK Action or Sansu , you takes your pick.

Betty Harris ‎– Ride Your Pony b/w Trouble With My Lover

Action 4535 1969

I'm opting for the b/w cos I like the way it swings.

Had Flame N King - Ho Happy Day arrive this week from France came up for a fair price on Discogs.

Hate to be a fly in't ointment, but great as the records are,

personally I look for things I don't know, not necessarily rare.

Sorry , but those are my thought anyways.

I love the classic oldies too, but there's a world o soul out there.

After hearing Andy's Jesse James offering and having to admit not going through all nine pages of this thread I don't know if this has been posted but you can pick this early seventies tune up for around a tenner got to be worth it.

:boxing:HI to all members of the SOUL SOURCE Record Club. Can I say that there have been some excellent contributions throughout 2018 so thanks for supporting the club, It's a shame that contributions have been down this year, this includes from me, the reason is the Type2 diabetes that I suffer from has been very bad, in the last 6 months I have been in the record room 3 times, it taks about 15 minutes just to go up 13 steps, and as I have my be downstairs it has made me lethargic & apathetic, So it my intention to close the club in 2 hours but then start 2019 club at the same time, so it's up to you if you want to put up your choice of what listen to now or wait 90 minutes for the new thread, can I wish you all thank you, DAVE K.
