The last one I sold for £36 a couple of days ago

I have sold them in the past for £400, £300 etc

They usually go for £50 since a load of copies were brought over last year (or the year before?) from the states.

There's a guy had them on eBay for $50 buy it now for a few months. Never got one cos I don't like it and didn't think I could sell it.

So it seems to have settled at around 25 quid? :lol:

When the last lot where found :D In the us where they not the ones that if you hold them up to the light you could see though them I'm sure I remember looking at one for sale at the Blackpool black music weekender at the Hilton a few years back the vinyl was no where near as thick as a older found copy. And if I'm right I would think it would affected the price in the two different presses :lol: .

In my first edition (2001) manships price guide this was back then listed at £1500, i bought mine some years back and payed a few more quid than £30 :shades: ! Just goes to show how prices can be affected when things do turn up in numbers.

Ps i bought it for the flip "Our love use To Be"..think thats what it is called.

there used to be a eBay seller by the name of "Brooklyn Born" from Las Vegas NV too that was listing the same record on ebay $100 a pop a while back,,,any idea if "Mischino" is the same person :shades:

It raises the question of wether it is a good thing for records to turn up in quantity; on the one hand everyone can have one but on the other good records don't get played any more. Danny Moore for example.

Yup. Royal Esquires is a brilliant tune IMO. Why do some folk turn their backs on quality Soul tunes, just because they become available to ordinary collectors and DJs on budgets ? Is this going to happen to the 4 tracks now?

Is it still "Whats in the groove that counts" or "Whats in your bank that counts"

Totally agree. When Richard Searling had this covered as the Chessmen, never thought I would ever own an original copy in my lifetime, hope the same happens to the Four Tracks. Could find a place for that Mandingo 45 in my collection, might have to get rid of Joe 90 though!!

Tiss "whats in the groove allways!" :lol: but tiss "what was in my bank that counts!" or so the bank Manager told me on my last overdraft application mind you when i asked for a £750.00 overdraft for a old soul record that was for sale he did not seam intrested at all :wicked:

A true high point in your Northern Soul passage comes when you obtain 1) A quality record...and 2) One that is backed up with the 'beautiful resignation' that comes with believing that you will never own one.....and then you do - still a £1500 record for me.

That track is a perfect example of the level that Searling' sets were during that period - in my eyes unsurpassable.

Such a busy and soulfully complex mixture of a track, that touched all the NS bases of the time.

A high point of Richard's playlist for me, that also summed the buzz of the Wigan dancefloor up as well as anything that got played there, at that wonderful time anyhow.

Yup..........on the Oddfellows video (mentioned elsewhere), Keb can be heard introducing this as the Embers in that downstairs room. And definitely "Playing The Part Of A Fool".

A truly magnificent, relentless piece of NS which has the lot.......I don't buy NS, but I really do need to pick one of these up whilst at a nice price :lol:

Agree totally Mark, it's just a stunning tour de force, exciting, relentless, unbelievable arrangements and vocals to die for, even a bit jazzy. One of my absolute favourite tunes. Can you imagine being in the recording studio when this was cut as a single take. It's why I love old 60's and 70's music and why I find a lot of today's sanitised studio produced music, a bit dull in comparison to say the least. Every home should have a Royal Esquires.

80 -81 , From memory , same time as Richard was playing Daybreak [ Tyrone Edwards " Search this world " c/u ] , etc .Used to have a great live tape with these on .Super rare 60's mixed with the best new and recent releases , tons of cover up's , fantastic memories .Best ,Eddie

A record that sums up all the best things about NS musically, a disc I never ever thought I would own, If they were giving em away with cornflakes, it still wouldnt alter the 'hero worship' status this record holds for me........its priceless at any price IMHO.
