Just got a rather nice 2 sider

The Steelers-Love, love, love for me/Disturbing thoughts-AMG

If so anyone know the story of how the Chicago group appeared on the Cininnati label.

I could be wrong, but the presence of the names Wells on the credits would seem to suggest these are the same group who recorded for Triple T in the 80s and 90s, which would make these Steelers some sort of continuation of the group who recorded for Crash, Epic etc. in the 60s and early 70s

Tim Brown reviewed it in one of his mags a few years ago, with the observation that it was quite a rare record. He went for the Disturbing Thoughts side of the record, which is almost there for me, but maybe doesn't have enough of the roaring tenor lead (Wes Wells?) who features prominently on many of their best sides.

It is the same group Dave....they also had a good track on a CD a few years ago.....AMG is the weirdest of labels but it also picked up a release by Johnny Moore (another Chicago man) possibly in the same deal. Disturbing thoughts isn't quite there to my mind, but it's OK / pleasent enough...Steve

They talk about how they got onto the label in my interview. Many Chicago acts appeared on the label. The label was a total scam, not even a custom label where you had to pay to press it... AMG had this thing going where they marketed themselves as a real label (supposedly with songwriters, a band, etc.) and you had to pay about $2000 to have your record pressed and supposedly 'promoted'. But they never actually promoted anything. The puzzle people told me how they had set up in a holiday inn, advertised, and you met with them and auditioned for them.

Specifically with the steelers 45, the tracks were already recorded (and the flip already appeard on their own Baba label), AMG just pressed it. They still had to pay $2000.

Here is the first press of the one side of the 45 on their label. The flip of this is "love love love" for me. This is even rarer, most of the run was actually destroyed.

The Mel Carter on AMG is a re-issue and is different to the original on Trip Universal, many a collector have made a mistake buying the AMG 45.

WELL DONE BOB VERY INTERESTING - I THINK WE SPOKE BRIEFLY LAST YEAR ABOUT THIS LABEL - THE PUZZLE PEOPLE IS FANTASTIC BOTH SIDES , FUNNY THE STEELERS AS PLUMBY POINTED OUT WAS A LEVINE RAVE , I REMEMBER IT IN PARTICULAR WHILE DOWN AT IAN'S HOUSE HE THRUST SOME 20 RECORDS AT ME SAYING YOU WON'T AND CAN'T KNOW ANY OF THESE.. I JUST DISCOVERED THEM TOP OF THE PILE WAS STEELERS,WHICH I HAD HAD FOR SOME YEARS INFACT THERE WAS ONLY 1 RECORD I HADN'T GOT BUT NEVER THE LESS SUCH WAS IAN'S TRUE ENTHUSIASM FOR FRESH DISCOVERIES.... Yes, I've got this one and "You live only once" came out on another AMG issue with a different flip, not as good as "Try it once again" though.

yeah, I also like the 'try it once again'. The rock n' company version of 'you live only once' is better than the changing tymes because of the arpeggiated synth that they are using, it makes it sound much more exciting for some reason. I'm still looking for the destiny 45 on AMG if someone has a copy to sell. Thanks.
