I seem to remember talking Bo***ck's to some "Old Boy" at Wigan one night who was telling me about having clothes made, the trousers, bowling shirts and having a BLAZER made (when did you last see anyone wearing a BLAZER who wasn't at school ?)

I am pretty sure that he told me they had the badges specially made for the Blazer breast pocket, (which is akin to those Royal British Legion ex-servicemen you see marching in the Rememberance Day Parade ) I'm sure he also told me someone had some Twisted Wheel one's made in Limited Edition with REAL GOLD THREAD included

Anybody know if this is true (come on old boy's we need you) If it is anyone got a picture or scan or even their original "Blazer". Surely this would be "The holy grail" of all Soul Patches

Many moons ago I received an unsolicited email from a company in India asking if the CSC would be interested in this style of badge...they specialised in Military blazer badges utilising various metal threads. They even offered to make a demo one for free...well who was I to say no?!

Sorry I haven't got a scan and it is deep in storeage, but I can assure you it does exist as a one-off demo...very thick/heavy material in black with gold and silver metal thread depicting the classic CSC logo.

i have about 20 various northern patches from up and down the country but i don`t have a scanner to upload them. if i`m looking for something in one of the draws you can guarantee i`ll find a patch in it.will have to get them all and put them all somewhere safe before one of the grandsons finds one and decides to eat or chew it

Around 1973/4 we'd wear our badges on the breast pocket of our black crombie coats - remember those - maybe just an East Anglian thing.

I have some old badges on my record box... must do some photos.

less of the cheek you young whipersnappers you obliovsly never went to the mecca aka the highland room [blackpool] i had a white blazer with blue patch pockets and blue satin braiding with an origanol torch badge moved to hartlepool in 74 went out to local dos in it and felt like co co the clown talk about being in a black hole soul wise not much changed to be honest. sold the blazer to a local guy .cant remember him . rue the day i did tho now ....

Yep, I had a "Northamptonshire" patch on my blazer, and on my crombie, about '69-'73. It was part of the youth culture thing and I reckon the predecessor to the Soul Patches.

I kept the badge and sewed it onto a nice black cardie.

BIT LATER ON THAN YOU LOT BUT I REMEMBER HAVING A BLACK BLAZER WITH THE WIGAN CASINO OLDIES BADGE ON BREAST POCKET WITH LOADS OF SILVER BUTTONS SEWED ON THE EACH SLEEVE TO MATCH THE BUTTONS ON THE FRONT OF COURSE WORE UNDER YOUR DOWN TO THE GROUND LEATHER COAT!!!!!

One particularly vivid memory of Dudley Technical College in 1969 is seeing all the scooters parked outside and mods in the canteen queue wearing blazers trimmed with red piping. Blazers were indeed popular.

There's mention in Dave Godin's column of someone (I've forgotten who, not having checked) having breast pocket badges made for the Wheel. This would be sometime in early 1971 I think, just following the closure of the club. Additionally, I recall two people having Catacombs blazer badges made to order at a tailor's in Birmingham C.1972(?) I most certainly didn't, as they cost more than an original copy of The Glories at that time, besides which wearing a blazer at the Cats would be about as comfortable as a deep sea diving suit!

But the gold bits did look like wire thread, unlike later repro's. Think they were 'custom made' in a small run. Only one I wore was the Leeds Central badge on a blazer I had made, black barathea with white piping! again, the badges were a small-time run of the originals, very thick, heavy material and heavy embroidery. I tried a Va-Va's patch on my karmen Ghia cords, but like the Pendulum badge they were printed, and washed off!

(I have an Empire State Soul Club NYC. beer towel somwhere.......)

i have one of those original wired wheel badges my brother gave me, its still in the tissue paper it was supplied in,and is uncut and unsown, mint, appro 40 or so years old!!!!!!!!!!!!!! had two badges ,both torch, one on the us college style cardigan i had and one on my bag, both lost years ago....wilton badges only for me these days...real classy items ez got a wheel membership form in my name filled in and old ladies adress..i was .only 16..it shut before i managed to get there

great scan..karmen ghia..forgot about those ...we used to stock those as well, think they did a cord bomber as well..

The above design was C.July 1973, originally square as you describe, but intended to be cut to shape. It was screen printed onto a blue nylon fabric, and subsequently fell apart after a wash or two! They were later changed to a different design I believe, and printed onto cotton.

I really like the colours on the Carlton one. (The Carlton was in Warrington and situated above Woolworths!)
