greedy person but having about 6 friends that date back from the late sixties. Had a stand

up argument with one cos I bought 2 records dead cheap he knew it offered a very low price, etc.

No contest. Discs are plastic, true mates arnt. Find a happy medium and be happy.One day them very mates will be there for you.I promise!

I buy records from Friends, and being a collector i don't have the problem from your angle. My view is that if he got the bargain because he put in the effort to track it down and get it then he should make a healthy profit, especially if it's a key part of his income and going to fund his next purchases.

As a friend i would expect some movement from "book price" or "going rate" and if it's a price i don't want to pay then i won't buy it, i'll buy something else instead at a price i am happy with. No point falling out over it.

At a slight tangent i discussed "what happens if i want to sell up" and did it through a friend, we both agreed that a sensible approach would be for me to hand them over to him to process and sell on at the best price he could get using what ever method he saw fit to shift them, be it auction of the rare stuff and bundling up the cheaper more comon stuff. With and up front agreed percentage fee for him, say 10-15% of what he sells them for (obviously negotiable at the time of the agreement). I think it's a fair way of doing it aqnd i wouldn't have the heartbreak and ball ache of advertising them and parting with them and packaging them myself.

And no I'm not selling up for a loong time, its more an arrengement for when the wife and kids pry them from my cold dead fingers!!!

I do tend to sell records cheaper to friends, but by the same token, it cuts out the listing, postage and all that b*llocks

believe it or not, I even sell records to my wife

but basically I tend to sell records much cheaper to friends than to anybody else. on the other hand when a friend offers me a record way cheaper than its value who am i to argue with a friend??

treat them in the same way they treat you.

If its really close friends i usually end up giving them to em'

If I was selling or buying to/from a friend, why should they be treated any different to any other seller/buyer? The only concession I would make is maybe time to pay for something. I wouldn't want to rip off a mate, but by the same token I wouldn't want to be ripped off. Does that make sense?

Cut out the middle man and only buy off people you already hate .

Depends on how much the record is worth and how good a mate it is.

had a friend that went on and on and on about doni burdick open the door to your heart. gave it to him as freebie on condition that if he parted with it then i should have first refusal. shortly after he sold it to someone else for £50

another friend wanted two records that i had aquired from him years earlier. the combined price of records had risen to £200, shed loads more than i paid for them. he had a couple of re-issue sevens tracks that i wanted (could never afford the originals) so told him we could do a straight swap. within a week of him recieving records from me a package was delivered to my door - about 80 singles, two of which were on the sevens label, the rest were all originals that added up to more than the £200 i could have got if i had sold elsewhere!

just recently i was offered a W/D of a record i wanted. again, out of my price range. So the guy walks straight up to me at the next soul-do that we are both at and drops the issue into my hand - freebie!!!!!!! same guy is DJ'ing at another event and is playing a record that i inquire about - i have had an email telling me to send him the P+P costs as a copy is on its way to me - freebie!!!! (Nik Mak is one of the good guys)

get them drunk,that seems to get a better price.

if not,then sell @ a price in between cost price & true value.

I buy a lot of records off friends and people I know well and tend to not haggle that much, record prices and friendship 'never the twain shall meet'.......lol at the end of the day a record is worth the same money if you know somebody or not and tend to think that friendship and cutting a deal for a record should not cloud the issue.

OK if selling records is your income then you need to sell at a good price/going rate - friend or not

If you got something for buttons and a best buddie wants it - you give it to them?

If you paid proper money for a tune and are selling because you need to pay a bill or raise funds for a want, then friend or not you need to at least ask for what you paid.

Unless its me that wants one of your tunes... I'd like them all for no more than a kiss and a hug. And you'll get a promise of them living in a loving home forever!
