S&m
Prestatyn Midnight Hour Northern and Modern Soul Weekender - March 2009 REVIEW Looking back at the eighth Midnight Hour Northern and Modern Soul weekender you would have to have had excellent time management skills to sample all the Soulful delights that were on offer. From Thursday night right through to Monday lunchtime it was an endless stream of "can't miss" morsels from a packed menu. Those generous souls at Pontins give you an extra night for free on the Thursday evening and this year around a thousand eager fans took advantage of the opportunity. Thursday night is a time to meet up with friends old and new, check out your programme and attempt to plot a course through the weekend to ensure you don't miss any of your favorite Midnight Hour moments. The March weekenders have now seen over fifty legendary performers grace the stages of both the Northern and Modern Soul Arenas. Every year we hear the phrase"Well how are you going to beat that?" But every year something magical seems to happen within the Friday and Saturday night shows. This year was no exception. The Modern Soul arena played host to Marcell And The Truth on Friday night who delivered their own brand of "organic soul" to the crowds delight. The stage in this arena had been relocated to an elevated position at the far end of the room and this led to a superior visual experience and more importantly created more room for dancing! If Friday night is Modern Night, then Saturday night is the time for Northern Soul fans to immerse themselves in the highlight of the year when legendary Northern Soul artists return to the stage for the first time in forty plus years to perform and receive the acclaim they so richly deserve. Ably supported by the Midnight Hour band and singers it's always a joy to watch them roll back the years to the delight of the fans all three thousand of them! Opening the show was Northern Souls "sharp dressed man" Mr Lenis Guess, Bobby Patterson, Benny Troy and the glamorous Eula Cooper followed with the incredible Volumes closing out the show in fine form. This years Northern Soul Showcase was swiftly followed by another outstanding show.....Back in the Modern Soul arena British Soul stalwarts Incognito delivered what was universally hailed as the highlight of the weekend for the Modern Soul faithful. But The Midnight Hour weekenders aren't just about the Live Artists. The Soul Scene's Top DJs from the UK and beyond are on hand to keep everyone entertained. People have diverse tastes and with everything from early RnB through rare and classic Northern to Modern Soul, Soulful House and Motown being played at some point during the weekend all your soul music bases are covered. Some of the most popular sessions at March's event were in Carl and Maria Willingham's Redemption suite home to those rare and sometimes underplayed sounds that are much sought after by both collectors and dancers alike. Twenty Four Hour Channel six Soul radio, which is beamed live in to your chalet provides the most diverse mix of soul music assembled under one roof! With individual "shows" being hosted by both "professional" and enthusiastic amateur DJs you never quite know what to expect! Particularly during the "Greasy Spoon Breakfast" show and the legendary "Blackmail Hour"! If you're yet to sample a Midnight Hour Weekender then best get your booking in fast. The next event will be the Legends of Motown and Soul Weekender between October 9th and 12th 2009 featuring the incomparable Chuck Jackson & Marc Evans performing live. The Legends weekender features a dedicated Motown and Commercial Arena that transports you back to your youth as you listen to the sounds that first got you into the soulful groove and also has Northern Soul all-nighters, Modern Soul and RnB weekenders and Rare and Specialist Motown sets. Yes you're right that really is something for everybody to enjoy! See you there! The Midnight Hour Crew Link to comment
Guest davethedisc
Dont forget the "specialist" Motown sessions in the Queen Vic where I will be getting my "Pig Knuckles" out along with other rare early Motown tunes! Dave T. Link to comment

S&m
Just wanted to mention - that Saturday night once again in the 'Without Boundaries' room at Prestatyn Legends as per last year and as was traditional @ our 'Without Boundaries' Summer Ball events is a suited and booted affair for those dj's that want to participate in the fun of the occassion (and all lads & lasses attending for that matter) - where dinner jackets and frocks (and that's just the men !! ) are the order of the day. Can I just say that we accept absolutely no responsibility for the state of certain individuals after last year and that photographic evidence may be used once again to shame those responsible if necessary !!! : -)) THANKYOU.
