It also came out by Tobi Lark as the b side to Challenge my love on Topper 1015. Hope this helps, quite hard to find. Regards Alan
  2. I think £35 is a decent price for what is probably one of the best Motown albums, I love all the tracks especially 'Just one teardrop' and 'What now my love', I think the issues of this album are more difficult to track down than the white demos that most seem to have. Regards Alan

Sad news indeed Jon was a fine vocalists, such a distinctive voice, his Columbia outing "What a difference love makes" one of my all time faves. RIP Jon. Best Alan
  4. Hi Enzo, I have pm'd you, Regards Alan Pollard
  5. Hi Ted, This isn't something I'm proud of but I sold my copy for 3 times the value I paid for it !!!!!!!!!!!!! not a bad mark up hey, until you see the figures, bought on Ashton under Lyne market for 25p on a Mala demo mint in 1974, I bought it blind because of the label and when I played it I wasn't that keen, remember the year was 1974 when this type of crossover thingy wasn't really in, anyway I retained it for about 8 years until I decided to move it on and sold it for 75p and that buyer still continually reminds to this day of that mistake I made, well I was a still wet behind the ears type collector in those days. Regards Alan

Like Dave I bought the first 2 volume set which was if I remember letters A to M and N to Z, I haven't bought any of the new ones since as they are expensive, I think I paid close on £200 including postage about 8 years ago, my only criticism is that I would have thought that Eyeball and the author would have issued amendment volumes (which I would have willingly bought) for those who bought the 1st 2 volumes as to buy the new more complete 4 volumes is an expensive way especially when you are literally discarding the 1sdt 2 volumes, do you get my drift or am i talking crap !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway this distracts from what is the most complete history of American Music over many decades and is not only a good reference book it is a good read and even better the label logos accompany each discography and that includes all variants of the label designs over the period of the label. Recommended. Regards Alan
  7. Pictured above or below (because I'm hopeless at attaching piccies) is the extremely rare copy of the orange label press credited to Wylie not Wylia as is the 73 re-press, this has been verified by John Manship as probably the only known copy in existance and carrying a value of approx £750 and possibly more now, Luther Ingrams "Exus Trek" must come up for discussion on Soul Source a good 3 or 4 times a year but it is worth talking about as like Pete says the instrumental as against the vocal is probably the most significant instrumentals that introduced most of us to the great world of rare soul. Regards Alan
  8. Hi, The acetate isn't on Flomar it is on Regent Sound Studios Inc. 10" something to do with Dick Charles if my memory is right but it is definately Flomar Muisic and a great tune, if I can get it turned into a format I can post up on here I will do it to see if anyone can confirm it is Valerie Simpson or whoever, I played it to Adey Croasdell once and he gave me the idea it could be Valerie Simpson.. Regards Alan
  9. Hi Rich, I can't say that I deliberately collect acetates / test pressings but in my many years of collecting I have bought loads and although some of them cost alot of dosh I can honestly say they are great items to have and from a nostalgic point they can't be matched. Many of mine are Motown 7" & 10" steel acetates of tracks that were released but they have different takes of the tracks and backing tracks. I also have a couple of interesting things, one is an alternate take of Maxine Brown's "One step at a time" by I think Valerie Simpson but not sure, perhaps I will post the track on here to see if anyone can work out who it is. Second is an alternate version of "What can I do" by George Kirby on an Argo 10" acetate which is quite different, it has no backing vocals and is longer. Buy them, you may find some interesting different take but if you don't like Baz says one of the greatest logo's Regards Alan
  10. Another great track to listen out for is the 'b' side of "All cried out" which is a great track in it's own right but the 'b' side is called "I wish I'd never loved you" and is awesome, and if your lucky some copies come in apicture sleeve like mine. Regards Alan
  11. Dusty is absolutely brilliant and like Roger said she did plenty of really good Motown covers inc "Can I get a witness", the track that ticks all the boxes for me his incredible cover of Walter Jackson's "Welcome Home" it is truly awesome and reall y hard to choose between her a good old Walter. As far as "I wanna make you happy" is one of the best beat ballads you will hear bar none , I played it 3 nights after her death (02:03:99) at The Sportsman Club in Macclesfield as a tribute to the great lady and it brought the house down, it still brings alump to my throat. Garv has couple for sale I don't they will be expensive, snap it up you won't be disappointed it has another great uptempo track on it called "Live it up" and I don't think either are available on asingle just the EP. RIP Dusty Regards Alan

  13. I love LP's almost as much as 45's, I have many favourites that include:- Donny Hathaway - Extensions of a Man - Atco, awesome album that includes the quite incredibly brilliant "I love the Lord he heard me cry / Someday we'll all be free". Sam dees - The show must go on - Atlantic including the brilliant "Child of the streets" & "What's it gonna be". D.J.Rogers - On the road again - RCA - the title track is out of this world. American Gypsy - American Gypsy - BTM - love the whole album. Maxine Brown - Outa sight - Epic - featuring the brilliant "Don't leave me baby" & "Seems you've forsaken my love" amongst others. Last but certainly not least the greatest album of all time bar none "What's going on" by Marvin Gaye. Regards Alan

  16. Hi Sean, Great taste mate, the J.R.Bailey track came out on US Calla it took me ages to find my copy and I paid £50 for mine, some may say that's a tad too much but it's down to what it's worth to you abd I thought £50 was ok and it was about 12 years ago when it was still comparitively unknown, there is also a good version by a group called Universal Joint on a label called Sniff, check out Too late by J.R.Bailey another great track on the Mala label. Don't know anything about Chuck Wood being the same guy. Regards Alan
  17. Mick, Looks like a boot to me although it has a large 45 the matrix on the right hand side is just SP instead of ZSP for issues and JZSP for demo's, perhaps John will verify this. Hope this helps, it certainly is a minefield but I have a bad feeling about this one and would stay clear of it. Regards Alan

  21. I was thinking, Alan Pollard who was in the last swap has`nt been too well lately, maybe we should all send Alan a copy of our Cds...maybe cheer him up a bit...what do you think? Cheers, Chris Hi Chris and everyone else on the CD swap list, Chris you are right I was in last years CD swap and I really enjoyed everyones CD infact I'm still listening to them, but I wasn't going to get involved with this swap as you correctly pointed out I haven't been well and I didn't want to let everyone down by committing to doing a CD and then not being well enough to do it. However over the last few days a few CD's have popped through the letter box and then last night at the 3 Greyhounds Chris explained why I was receiving CD's so all I can say is thank you very much firstly for thinking about me during these difficult times and secondly for the wonderful CD's and I will over the next few weeks see if I can put a CD together but no promises but I will try my best, so Chris will you pm me all the addresses please. Best Regards Alan
  22. From memory the track "All of my life" was an un-issued track by The Four Temples I think, of course there is chance the Four Temples could have been The Ringleaders, they certainly sound similar. Awesome track. Regards Alan
