  1. People accept poor grading just to own records and chancers get away with it as sending back is a hassle and who knows where another copy will come from. The state of vg records these days is abysmal so this lowers the bands for ex etc . Only a minority of records will be mint etc after 60 years of playing them so will be top price. Most others ex / vg+ but a lot have been hammered at soul nights etc over the time Its headings like plays mint except first 10 seconds or has cue burn for first 4 rotations that take the Mickey. These should be classed as vg but as the price drops to 50 percent dealers wont do it
  2. It can be a lottery. Nobody knows it can mean its sold as a super rare unknown recently discovered Or it's crap and nobody will touch it I've seen tunes listed for £100 on an expensive dealers site which sold when Jm had copies for a tenner
  3. Download some of the great mixcloud type podcast things from the likes of pete smith or ian levine with lots of unknown tracks mixed with classics Plus there are lots of live tapes that get uploaded from.past venues that have been recorded Or there is YouTube to download from
  4. So that means values of all items sold for cash at soul nights will be 20 percent cheaper then
  5. Well worth watching it you have a spare hour or 3. Also covers the beginning of house music after disco died. Interview with a couple of well.known artists and DJs
  6. Doo wop dropped in value as there are less fans as they are older and have passed away. The top sounds still hold good values though
  7. Can just picture the scene in the future. Here is the top 500 on original vinyl valued at about 200k Here is the top 500 on mp3 and a house / flat for the same 200k What would any youngster do? People with the cash will still buy but its got dafter each year. Until the majority of older collectors die it wont crash the price
  8. The cheapies mainly disappeared with the start of price guides saying the majority of records were worth at least a tenner.
  9. People were doing this years ago to protect their investment in the originals. Wanting the credit for djing but wont risk the records so played carvers Takes the piss, if you are worried about damaging it then play something else
  10. If your car has a radio you can buy transmitters to plug into an ipod / mp3 player and maybe a phone to listen through your speakers. That may be an option to still listen to the music you like if you cant get tapes
  11. Look for rossyboy on youtube as he produces mixes of low rider stuff plus other sites with download links
  12. I've had this too
  13. I had it on a b side of a Carver but no idea where it came from
  14. People were selling the top 500 in mp3 format on DVD/ usb sticks for 20 pounds. Drop these onto a playlist and hit random and you have your local soul club / pub northern night. No dj egos to feed , no expenses. Free night to the punters who most wont care about the format and just listen or dance to what they know so the floor will be busy
  15. It was a great adaptation of classic northern tunes by the orchestra Well worth a watch, I hope the other songs that were edited out are shown one day or even released on DVD
  16. It probably became about rarity when the older djs dreamed up ovo to protect themselves on the scene from other people playing the same records and getting bookings. If it was about the music 90 percent of sets could be played from mp3/cd hard drive and only the top collectors/ djs with the super rare acetate/ few known copies would need to be booked
  17. Maybe changed his mind, did not have the money or found another copy elsewhere and didnt want to admit it
  18. Or be at an oldies night
  19. And 10 quid records in the uk are now 14 pound with postage costs so unless you can bundle some you are 40 percent out of pocket when you order
  20. People who bought high a few years ago may want / need to sell on now and the prices have dropped on lots of non demand things but they will hang on to their price as dont want to take a massive hit when they paid for hype demand above normal price
  21. I meant why should the us seller let the buyer save the 20 % custom fee. They wont get any of it . The uk buyer can then resell it and make an extra 20% plus his profit
  22. But why should the seller do this? It saves the buyer 20 percent but if the buyer is flipping it then he makes the extra back for doing nothing.
  23. Saw bernard William's go quickly for 350 recently
  24. But where would you draw the line if you made one now? No mention of top 500,oldies nights, wigan etc. No featuring of the djs that hang on in the scene playing the same records from 40 years ago from 5 quid bootleg. Whatever you covered people who are into the other parts would say its rubbish. Would you cover r&b , soulful house, 40 year old modern or crossover? Would it mention cds, mp3s
  25. If its johnny moore cant live without your love I've got one for sale, listed it this afternoon
