  1. i think this is the Record Graveyard store in Hamtramck (if not they do it too). I've found I can confidently buy anything from them graded 7 & up & be happy with the record. They are a good store & a good ebay dealer.
  2. agreed, a grade derived at by a combination is preferred, eg looks VG but plays NM or looks NM but plays with noise etc.
  3. The idea of a strictly adhered to grading system would be immediately rendered null & void because of the "Rose Tinted" approach some people bring to grading. There is no way the record pictured is VG++. It is VG, maybe VG+ if it plays ok. The real problem exists from VG- through to Ex (or even now Ex+ according to the example given). Traditionally there is a range of conditions covered between those grades but now it seems as though they can all be used relatively interchangeably to pull the grading of thrashed 45s up to a higher price bracket. Unfortunately the UK Ex grade seems to have dropped over the last 5 or so years so that it is no longer in line with the US VG+/VG++ but is now more a kin to VG-/VG & that really sucks. Because of this, VG+ has also taken a hit in both the UK & US as confusion abounds. I have had skimmed 45s from the UK, US & Australia & they suck too. Send that practice back to the doo-woppers please & put your kettles, car polish & cutting compounds away.
  4. yeah, Soul Source Sales Forum: The home of 45s which are graded visually & optimistically by candlelight since 2003
  5. I like the fact that I've seen these 2 guys on my trips to the US. https://sirshambling.com/artists/R/roger_ridley.html https://homeofthegroove.blogspot.com/2005/09/sugar-and-spice.html and that they are captured on this vid
  6. Cheers, it's actually sorted now, I found a USB interface thing at work which came free with one of the mixers a few years back & has just been languishing boxed up in a cupboard the whole time, brought it home, plugged it in & it is now stereo & the hum is all but gone. Like I said, I never really needed higher quality, but it's there now for whenever
  7. If the Johnny Little John is anything like his other stuff it will be solid bluesy/soul/r&b stuff. I actually really like his stuff.
  8. Sad news, RIP, love his Federal & Shama stuff in particular.
  9. This is the first Chuck 45 I ever found, it was a New Zealand press on Scepter. I also remember a few years back coming across boxes of unplayed CJ 45s on Wand, so many titles, lots of ballads, but a bunch of good uptempo ones too. In amongst a pit of otherwise Country 45s Definitely beefed up my Chuck Jackson section in one day
  10. this would be sad news if confirmed.
  11. cheers Chris, she loves to dance that's for sure.
  12. hold up, is this for real??
  13. 2 different ones, can't remember offhand if they are different takes or just different mixes. would have to check. it annoys me how short this record is.
  14. 2 hours of funk & soul 45s https://www.ustream.tv/recorded/18767886
  15. does your mate know there are two pressings of the special agent 45?
  16. this is a UK 45 though right? it's not unusual to have pronged & solid centres on UK titles, there's loads of them with those variations. The US small vs large hole variance is infinitely stranger.
  17. some juke boxes took small hole 45s, maybe they were catering for that market by doing micro runs without the centre hole punched out, could also be a screw up where the presseing plant shipped off some runs without punching the centre hole out. as stated, the EPs of the time (mini LPs/Stereo 33rpm singles) etc. had small holes but I think the speed difference would negate these normal 45s trying to fit in with those.
  18. if you paid with paypal you might be able to get your money back through starting a claim, unless of course it's been over 45 days or you sent the money as a gift etc. sucks when people don't uphold their end of the deal & don't engage in dialog after the fact.....
  19. not really enticing for any younger punters to attend any big weekenders, when i next make it back to the UK I don't think I'll be heading to Blackpool in any great hurry.
  20. I purchase/read In The Basement, Soul Up North, There's That Beat from time to time, Manifesto too, but that's probably my least favorite of them.
  21. yeah, probably my favorite actually, can't wait for this to come in the mail.
