Black Echoes. Nov 1977. Blackpool Highland closes??
My first trip was about 79, and it was a soul night. Not sure why our crowd never went earlier, but Cleggy was easier to get to I suppose. Last trip must have been around 80 or 81 which was a 're opening' one off event, or so it was advertised as. Realistically though, those lucky enough to have been there at the beginning really were spoiled. Ed

Bob Abrahamian collection goes to Stax museum
I'm sure we all love ro see an inventory of the donation. What a nice gesture from the family. If its half as nostalgic as the motown museum, it will be well worth the trip Was planning another coast to coast road trip across the States next year, so this my have to be on the route. Ed

1977...top Sounds Played Or Recorded In This Year..help
Yes indeedee...the girly sound was in vogue. Paula Durante, charity brown, Mary Saxton, Jeanette Harper, Marsha Gee, and even Peggy March. Twas the sound that hooked a few. Susan Coleman, Donna King, The Fabulettes, the list goes on and on. Blanche Carter was my obvious favourite. Not so many soul police back then.. Ed

New to me. Was it a biggie all over? It wasn't until Sept 76 that I started going to cwg nighters, so may have missed this in the plethora of new sounds being played. Ed

JMAuction - 21/04/2021 - Results!
Well...a little research on here will reveal several topics regarding great original vinyl for £20 or less. However, I'm not dismissing the value of the super rare quality tunes, just emphasising the dilemma of playing such discs week in week out, and witnessing the drop in value. The true 'top 10' rarest of the rare may be better off in a museum to preserve the legacy! And give a pass to the owner to play copies whilst dj ing! Ed

And seriously, if you've just paid two to five grand for a rare disc where its condition makes a serious difference to value, the temptation is not to even play it! A box containing a 400 rare 45 record collection could be a million quid, so you need insurance and security! Its a different world today, for sure. Ed

First £100 Record And £1000 Record
That 7 day lover story was a big talking point. Seemed an age when £30 was big money for a tune, and about a weeks wages. Bernie Williams, Smith Brothers, all the RCA white demos, and this prize possession.. Had fell off the scene when £100 was the norm, and £1000 was and is unthinkable. Could be a Yorkshire thing. Ed

Fascinating Facts No 1 - Lester Tipton
Could well be! On the AB shows they do name at least some of the prominent dancers. I'm sure footage of the 1968 AB dance comp winners will show up. Ed

Sold a ujima to Japan and a hearstoppers lp to nu yak. But, somebody cut the taj mahal lotta love lp down to a 7 inch single with a stanley knife i think around 77 when it was big, and it must have been sold a lot as it seemed to turn up everywhere... Oh the days when there was a real frenzy to get hold of that elusive tune. Ed
