  1. I hope a biography of Johns life gets written. Even though he was not a great fan of Northern Soul himself, his efforts to bring every 45rpm disc from the USA that could be adopted was simply awe inspiring. It's probable every record collection in the world has records he shipped over in it. A posthumous freedom of Kings Lynn should follow, and Portland Street renamed after him. However since he was a humble man, maybe call it soul bowl street. Ed
  2. You don't mention the wheel, but did Godin come up with the term norvun soul whilst it was still open? If so, it might be prevalent to have a picture of that plus a current regular norvun venue, highlighting the almost 50 year lifespan of norvun. Also concentrate on who is going to buy the book. A history lesson, or an inspiration for young uns to get into the scene. Ed
  3. Almost impossible to distinguish! Ree just has a slightly deeper voice and therefore a bit more soulful, but both tracks fantastic. When did these track first hit the scene? Ed
  4. Last few days in Rife... Ed
  5. If you want rare original vinyl, no. If you want fun in the sun with an open music policy....it takes some beating. Wully Bully to Amy Winehouse... anything goes. Around 750 soulies gather for a week or so and play CDs and mp3s etc, with pretty much anybody who volunteers to DJ might get a slot. Cheap beer, a lot of fun, and a loyal following. Ed
  6. Good to know! Ed
  7. Marvellos on Loma? Lots of we go together out there but not heard on nova. Cavaliers on Kent? Somebody will know! Ed
  8. Very sorry, just saw this. The interviewer goes by the name of NORTHERN SOUL TV on you tube. I don't know him. I thought it was hilarious that he thought RW was a living legend. I've met RW and he would have probably found it hard not to laugh at the title. Satire? Tongue in cheek. Anyways it looks like the interviewer ( Ralph) got attacked recently at an event by people who take offence with what he does ( makes videos mainly) and I just find it a disgrace to move from a difference of opinion to a physical attack. Search Northern Soul TV on you tube, and you will find his own video about his own attack. Ed
  9. Tough one. BJE for me, but no stand out reason. Maybe a bit less sombre.. Ed
  10. John Edwards As good as it gets. Ed
  11. Keep digging and finding. Awesome work. Ed
  12. The Jackpot, The Stranger, and Chicken little 69 could be instant hits on the dancefloor. Just my opinion... Ed
  13. What a job to have! Going through all this stuff! Ed
  14. Fascinating stuff. Just 69? I thought the whole archives had been gone through. Can it be assumed the 'most commercial' 60 have been released? Somebody needs to go through the unreleased part of this find PDQ....and find the real Northern stuff! Ed
  15. Hats off to the Hundred. Loved the times I've been there. The sticky dancefloor from the beer I've spilt is a self inflicted ball ache.....a 40 years is amazing. Not many "locations" can beat that. Leeds central is one, at least for soul nights, and a remarkably similar atmosphere. Cleethorpes Pier is still standing....and maybe one day the cafe gets replaced once again by a dancefloor. Long live the Hundred. Have a great night tomorrow. Ed
  16. Correctamundo. A great place to take the dog for a walk...and paddle. Ed
  17. Never knowingly heard that version. A bit karaoke ish. For me nobody has done a better version than JW of his own songs, but I will say his versions of others songs have not all ways been the best. IGTSF is top drawer stuff from JW. Ed
  18. Buying the top 500 is getting ridiculous... You can't get nowt much for a tenner these days:) Ed
  19. In July 1978 my first wage as a 16 year old was £28. I'd spend half on vinyl, but never more than a fiver per record. Invariably I'd try and sell on at a profit after a few months of ownership. Great fun. A mate of mine, a year older, probably on a fiver more, was buying a top £30 record every week. £3 to live on.....but what a collection he built, as he never sold any ( until he got married, but that's another story). Obsession never alters, and dealers constantly push the limits. Long live that obsession! Ed
  20. Not sure if she is still 'alive and well' but it's great she does/did know her single was a big hit on the scene, back in the day. Ed
  21. Clue in the background.... Back drop to many a picture in the 70s sunrise. Ed
  22. Guess where? New York is 3418 miles Moscow is 1495 miles. You can make out the rest. Ed
  23. Lots of same tunes played 'up north ' Can't remember the line dancing or 'shoulder dancing' though. Everybody seems to be having a ball. Ed
  24. Getting ready for the England game...with our Scottish friend...
