No, I didn't really think it would be, but anything with the line "F*ck you, and the Range Rover you rode in on!" deserved to be brought to a wider audience. And let's face it finding the actual tune on the info you have supplied is a bit of a long shot.... so it was meant to be a bit of fun really.

Anyone got a scan of the Nimbus 9 release - I had previously thought that it was a bootleg for some reason.

I think our view on how old is an oldie has changed over time. As we, and the scene get older and more time passes we might prefer our oldies to be, well, older. But when we were 17 who thought that we would still be listening to these tunes 43 years later? 12 months was an eternity in terms of a records popularity!

On my very first trip to the Casino (August '74) a dj (don't ask me who) announced "It's been about a year since we stopped playing them, so it's time to give them a spin as oldies" and followed it up by playing the Gems and the Four Seasons - the first time it had occurred to me that some records were 'new' and some weren't.

I should have qualifies my statement with when it was first a northern play - apologies for that - nice to know it is currently massive again.

Massive northern tune - hence the bootlegging. And it comes with a fabulous flip side too!

There was also yellow label via Soul Bowl - different design to the original though.

Quite agree with you Martyn, I had all three (RT/CW/MfM - never had Rita Lee as I have never seen an original) - only ever played Robert Thomas!

I think Arthur Wrights name was one of those first 'Hallmarks' I learned to look for back in the early days - I can't think of a time he ever let me down. Thanks for the music Arthur, your like won't be heard again anytime soon.

For what it's worth my Impel copy was orange with black lettering. Also it says 'Masters of Soul' instead of 'Soul Masters' if I remember correctly.

Dealt with JA for many years and bought many packs from Soul Bowl - got sick of the sight of Wade Flemons! My favourite soul pack memory is when a buddy (Dave Bala) bought a pack and we sifted through it and identified tracks we thought were particularly noteworthy. At Cleethorpes Pier that same night a dj (possibly 'Frank' - possibly not) played a tune and when announcing it said something like "Ian Levine's most wanted record at the moment" (or similar) we look at each other and say "Crikey, it's that Robert Thomas record!" yep, "Salvation" for 10p - offered a tenner for it that night - got another in the next pack!

Crikey that Hollywood Persuaders has not stood the test of time has it?
