  1. i think i probably mean who's responsible for the marketing strategy, the distributors, universal really stepped in when no-one else showed any faith...if it's one and the same then they've shot theirselves in the foot if they thought it wouldn't conceive valuable remuneration, people in departments who simply don't understand the logic or popularity of this type of subject matter, deciding it merits a straight to dvd sale. these people obviously didn't count on or have any true awareness of just how in demand this film would be, and the subsequent ploy to get cinemas to show it, for which the response has been little short of staggering. that aside, i'm mightily impressed that such a giant of film production payed the project attention and saw it through.
  2. karl, words fail me brother....you have so impressed me and almost moved me to tears...and we've only just been talking in the last half hour as well, celebrating your birthday...what a truly immense edict, wonderfully precise with poise and character...an undeniably glowing reference...you enjoyed the satisfaction as much as i did in going to see it a second time ( i was privilaged to be at the premier in blackburn ) as an aside to your comments, you'll be pleased to know, as elaine announced there, fran did see the finished product before she sadly passed away...she was so impressed...god bless her soul, god bless elaine...we entrusted our faith in her and she has delivered in the most monumental fashion.......every person who keeps the faith, loves the music, shares the brother and sisterhood that is the scene, should be eternally proud......the world of northern soul is undiminished, it is timeless and will have reverence for decades to come...the greatest subculture in living and future memory...it will never die as long as it is somebody's heart and soul......KEEP THE FAITH!.
  3. tell you what ian, it makes your blood boil that so many people on this country just want an easy ride pity big brother dosn't exist to punish this crime, every single one of these low lifes are draining the energy & will of just people, like elaine who have put their own security on the line to achieve the success the film is having...perhaps it's not too late to drop on the knob heads at the top from a great height like a ton weight and go public in the criticism of how they have callously mishandled the whole affair...the only samaritan to my mind has been universal for stepping in to make the dream a reality, whilst all the other sodomites stepped aside with total disregard.....name and shame these bastards, then stand them against a wall and mercilessly shoot them all..
  4. it is so bloody shameful...people who simply have no conscience...dosn't matter what sort of product though anyway.....the internet was deemed a wonder, that also is demonized because of the dark corners people create with it...the good the bad and the truly ugly...perhaps our film industry had an agenda even?.....perhaps they didn't want it to succeed, because like the media, they've never understood what it's all about, so they want to stick the knife in wherever they can...a bunch of childish tossers minus genuine grey matter...i know i'm summizing but somebody has to be held to account for an act of gross betrayal of the principle that a film should be allowed it's due on the big screen...EXACTLY WHERE IT'S MEANT TO BE......they obviously thought it wouldn't do much at the box office, and it's shut those miserable f***in b******s up so the next spoiler is to do exactly what they've done...and on top of that, a multi million bunch of freebie lovers with tight wallets are robbing the people responsible for all the hard work of their dues.
  5. i really think Elaine has nailed it...the detail was as precise as it's ever gonna get when you've spent every god given hour researching for countless years. i'd like to make a pertinent observation of our characteristics as people from different counties with different dialects...and it's a behavioral one. i went, last night ( 19/10/14 ) to watch the film again, this time at the wonderful art deco majestic cinema in Bridgnorth. wanted to catch the atmosphere prior to the dvd release, as only cinema can really deliver on that. i would estimate between 100-130 people turned up to watch it, on what was it's third showing over the weekened. there were certain elements, who at various times during the screening were boisterous and noisy but on the whole enjoying it and there was a warm round of applause at the finish, though somewhat abbreviated...different strokes?...having attended the premier at Blackburn some 3 weeks ago now, i reflected on the fact that, it's a film about northern folk and northern life..in a northern town. i have to say that there was a rapturous applause for Elaine when she introduced the film and throughout, the screening was observed with virtual stony silence apart from moments that were intended to encourage laughter or shock. upon conclusion, the film received a standing ovation, that's a lump in the throat and a tear in the eye stuff as far as i'm concerned personally...something i have not seccumbed to since the funk brothers documentary. it therefore.would be interesting to hear what people's reactions where across the u.k., not just their views of the film's credibility afterwards.
  6. bro, you went there to watch the film, as you said, not the audience, people from all walks of life are going to view this, even more so with the dvd release tomorrow....
  7. absolutely!.....everyone involved made this happen, lets hope this gets released globally and HANG any one who s it!
  8. mayo loves to wind him up...a complete nob!
  9. true, it's payback time for her commitment....of course the scene is thriving anyway, i can't deny that and has been for more years than i care to remember, but she has given it impetus to those on the outside, who want to genuinely get a grasp of our logic....pushed it firmly into the spotlight for a bigger audience to view...and...hopefully, one not so cynical as with previous generations....point being, that an increasing amount of youngsters are finding " the way out"...just like we did in the 70's.
  10. well it's conceivably posssible, but the latter theory's the better bet...which of course would mean, exactly what various documentaries have failed to address...telling the story how it is now.
  11. yes, ordered the dvd...BUT IT ISN'T THE SAME NECESSARILY, IS IT?...so having witnessed the premier at blackburn 3 weeks ago now, i'm off to the cinema in bridgnorth to get the atmosphere of a darkened room again...and the niece who has no identity with the music whatsoever, apart from hearing it in our car & house whenever she pays a visit but......want's to see it the film for herself to satisfy her curiosity...THAT i believe, will be the object of the exercise for millions across the u.k. want to see and understand better what so engenders us to this scene and music, viewed as tribalism or not.
  12. totally SPOT ON! chalks....KERMODE without any shadow of a doubt, is THE U.K.'S No.1 critic on all film subjects, and a great lover of music as well...if he's prepared to get behind a british film of this nature, that paints a picture of the greatest subculture the world has EVER witnessed, then that's high praise indeed. let no-one be in any doubt whatsoever...what ELAINE CONSTANTINE has achieved is a worthy appraisal of youth and it's worshipping of a music that is eternal, meaningful and vocally inspiring, that has sustained it's ability to engage people looking for something different in a world of ineptitude. she had faith in herself to deliver and as a result, others strove to aid her to complete this voyage....it, as if ANYONE NEEDS REMINDING, has been a labour of love, NOT something cobbled together in a matter of weeks...painstaking years infact, it fully characterizes her unflinching devotion to producing a portrait of that moment in time when all was new, when northern soul was something mystical, that appeared on the horizon to salvage people's belief in real music, when the mire of pop was drowning people's ability to differentiate between the mundane. almost 50 years on, it would be a travesty if we didn't have a platform to display our unadulterated and lifelong love for the music and the scene it permeates. ELAINE has given it an unbelievably huge shot in the arm and if our film critics, regardless of their intellect can give this a thumbs up, then we've ALL not done too bad for nearly 50 years of showing the world that there is an alternative that quite simply WON'T GO AWAY.
  13. Agentsmith posted a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
lots of people posting on fb jumping the gun...which is both very disconcerting and annoying....can we please have the facts stated clear and precise?
  14. post this on facebook dave, so people can see and be aware.....
  15. seems like it was all about detroit at one time dave, very sad indeed...the connection with cameo parkway as well is even more poignant.....on the one hand r n' b and rock & roll turning into soul music which ushered in that labels eventual demise, to the phoenix rising from the flames in the form of philly....gamble & huff oversaw both era's and recorded many artists and legendary songs of the latter genre...hope the logo finds a deserving resting place.
  16. tremendous set of floor shakers baz!
  17. a poignant date adey, and a very honourable gesture, sincerely hope you can get it together in celebration of our most revered and iconic bard of soul!

  21. odeon, telford waiting to hear weather they're scheduled to show, but they are aware of the enormous u.k. wide publicity, so it most certainly IS making people sit up and take notice. i emailed the cinema manager advising him in best interests as it is also being shown in shrewsbury, oswestry & bridgnorth so, shropshire well represented...what about you soulies in ludlow?
  22. sounds like a cashmere's record there ian...
  23. i agree with pete, i don't believe it was withdrawn...i definitely owned a copy but a good many years ago now.
  24. service & funeral will be held this coming friday, 10th october in todmorden & burnley respectively.
  25. "the voice on the phone"....distinct and unique....never a dull moment known, for rick that would be an impossibility, a broad smile and a ready-at-hand quip...from the get-go his persona struck you...always a positive attitude toward life...and he did love life.....and he knew he was going to be taken from us so quickly, but didn't want to go.....the strongest person's heart is so fragile and it's hard to hold back the tears....RICK FOSTER was a truly amazing soul, his presence was profound....now there is void, perhaps the best we can do is fill it with lovely memories of someone so kind and gracious, gone from sight but not from our hearts or minds...todmorden has had it's fair share of sadness for a small community, it will fall no more harder than now for a true son, well respected and well loved...god bless diane and all her family, and keep them....rest in peace, our dear friend, ....RICK
