Can highly recommend a band we've worked with many times called The FLiKS ....... Portsmouth based but gig all over the country. Mostly soul and motown, they can also put w few popper ones in if necessary ..... and the bloke in the band are also doing a few hammond instrumental numbers too.- What's Your Favourite Funk 45
Loving that selection ....... we do a night in Portsmouth called FUNK KLUB (well, I help out with the funk klub DJs) once a month. Only in a bar, but plenty of funk! We have a guest DJ each month too, this is the recent one with Dom Cater as guest. His set for the first hour of this and then a bit of a free for all for the second hour: https://soundcloud.com/funk-klub/dom-cater-281114mp3- Portable Record Players
Like the colour of that, I've not seen it before. I've accumulated this set up- Headphones?
I've got a set of these ….. can be picked up for £50. Do a good job. https://www.whathifi.com/akg/k451/review- The Best Record Boxes For Sale
and i should have said, the ones in the pic are around 60 or 70 LPs and 150 singles I think.- The Best Record Boxes For Sale
A mate of mine has a couple of boxes for sale. A matching 12" and 7" pair ……. looking for £90 plus postage i think: He can also make them to order, he does about 4 different sizes from 100 x 7" upwards. I can find out but i think they are around £60 or so plus postage. great quality.- The Best Record Boxes For Sale
a bit bigger ….. and not a box …… but i've got one of these. light and easy to carry, keeps records safe too due to the padding. https://www.juno.co.uk/products/magma-7-single-bag-150-ii-black/341640-01/- Soul Source Favourite Motown Song
Marvin & Tammi - "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" for me (just shades Jackson 5 - "I Want You Back") - neither rare but fantastic tunes.- South London Soul Train - Opinions Please On Young Soulies ?
Good luck with it Rob …. sounds like a great gig.- The Brits
I didn't watch it on tv ….. but saw the clip. one of our friends (local soulie and DJ) was dancing. i thought it looked like a bit of fun, no harm at all. not sure her "costume" was her own though- Portable Record Players
i've got a couple of columbias and a mixer ....... i like them but would worry about playing valuable 45s on them due to the weight of the stylus and what i can only guess is a magnet drawing it to the record (you can play them upside down!). i think soundburger is my favourite though ... most portable and private for listening to tracks.- I Want Two Of These
love a pair of those!- New Band Worth A Listen
Pompey band ...... I love the album tracks!- New Street Revenge Cont
i think they're excellent .... we've had them on twice at he IOW Festival and they went down well.- Northern Soul Cover Versions

Like that. Cheers.- Why Do We Dislike Al Wilson's The Snake So Much?
but i didn't hear it anywhere i went last year either.- Why Do We Dislike Al Wilson's The Snake So Much?
Never say never, we're still hoping to be there again this year!! I was over last year and did a few do's for a change .... had a great time. never got over to Kev's nights at the tap ...... i'd imagine them to be good though, he knows his stuff (mod end of the spectrum). and, as you said on another post ....... plenty to choose from on the island. as for the snake ........ i actually still quite like it. i was very late in getting into some northern soul and it was one of the first i heard i think. i have played it, not for a very long time. it goes down well enough with a mainstream crowd that probably haven't heard it before .... catchy and upbeat enough for them.- Barbara Lynn I'm A Good Woman
cold blood version is a belter!- Disco
love a bit of disco myself ..... even some of the most commercial. few of my favourites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imDRuohXdRE- Brought Up In The 60's And 70's?
another punk/new wave background here ..... i was born in '65 so by about 1978 i was starting to listen to stuff like the jam, costello, boomtown rats, blondie ..... plus pistols, clash, uk subs, SLF etc. also flirted with the mod revival of 1979 .... and two tone. got into all this pretty late compared to most here ......... probably about 1996 when i was DJ-ing at an indie club (modernworld) where we had a playlist that included up to date britpop, indie classics, 60s guitar (action, who, small faces, beatles etc) and motown. got asked to DJ at another club by a bouncer who worked there who was well into his northern .... he played me some ..... from there on i started buying it. bizarrely though ..... i managed to totally miss the northern soul scene, didn't know anything about it. scooter rallies too (although there was a regular rally at hayling island for a few years i think). i also went to a couple of untouchables mod rallies from about 1995, went along with a local mate who used to go to them regularly.- Original Vinyl Only Do..not Quite
i reckon it would be a nightmare trying to find tracks though ....... none of that flicking through your record box. just on a screen.- Acid Jazz - The 25Th Anniversary Box Set
great label ...... and still producing good stuff like janice graham band. i loved the time when corduroy, brand new heavies, galliano etc were releasing stuff. i remember a really good trip up to the acid jazz christmas party one year ....... which i'm sure had JTQ, brand new heavies and corduroy on the bill. - Recommend a soulful party band?
