Sad News Frank Wilson Has Died
I suppose today we wouldnt unless your an oldies person consider playing DILY but it epitomised everything in the 70s that we all loved about the scene. Ive got shivers reading the post and feel very sad that we have lost an Icon from our memories. RIP Frank Wilson. Did I love your infamous record! Indeed I did!

Symposium on Soul Music and Community - Manchester 29th June 2012
AS I was working when the last one was on I asked if the symposium could be recorded either audio or a synopsis of the presentations made: Hence nothing happened- Again I wont be able to attend due to work which is a pity as I will be in Manchester on the Saturday so I request again that will probably fall on deaf ears! Will someone organise for a synopsis of the presentations be made available (This is usually done from copies of the presenters papers or notes)! Cheers Steve

Special Guests - 100 Club Northern Allnighter - Jan 28th
Peggy Im sorry but I have to disagree with you forcefully. Levine was very fortunate to come from a well off family that he travelled to the states to find records when most of us could only dream to afford to go there thats why he got so many not that they were posted to him although he did have his suppliers like most Djs do. Back in the 70s although there was thousands of records to find you had to be in a special group of people in order to get unlicensed access - even I was lucky for a short time working at global. The other thing is tastes change and the things butch plays now might not have been flavour of the day then- so infact Ian could maybe have heard some of Butches discoveries but passed them by as they didnt fit into the recipe for the time! I love Butches discoveries but I love Levines because when your young music influences you in an emotional way that is different to when you are older. If I heard one of Butchs discoveries ID think to myself - thats bloody great but the oldies that are now but were new back in the day make my hairs stand on end because of the emotional attachment to the scene at the time and the friends at the time and there fore the association with Levine is much deeper - so you could say its one of Nostalgia because I was there! That doesnt mean that Butch is less but Ian is held in esteem for the reasons I have given.

Record Digging Stories.. Book..
NIcola get some of the hairy stories from Dave Thorley Especially one involving a T-Shirt its hilarious! What about "The ones that got away" the records you couldnt get the shop to sell to you only to sell to someone else a month later. Or the most unusual record finds! ATB Steve

Rare Records and Raucous Nights: Investigating Northern Soul -Salford 04 Nov
Hi Rod - I do 2 presentations a year at Fettes - Its good fun! The film Centurion is actually very poor in the sense they did not recreate the weaponary correctly. I offered advice as I am Centurion of the 9th legion Hispana here in Scotland which is what the film is supposed to be based on its exploits with a Romantic twist in it. They declined. One of our guys (Legionaries) went for an audition as an extra only to be told he was too old and not tall enough.- They wanted 5ft 10inches and under 30- this again is not represntative of what the ninth legion was about as many were veterans and were on average 5ft 6ins tall inRoman times - we know this from Tacitus a well know writer of the day and also tombstones. The next film "Eagle of the ninth" is based on the Rosemary Sutcliffe book which is mainly fiction. Soulgirl - Like all empires they stretch themselves too far with too little resources and retreat back to the nucleus - Rome. Many Roman inventions are still used today Example The Police battle shield is an oblong which curls at the ends to protect the body. Central heating is another - there are absolutely loads of them. Cheers for the interest -My Optio (2nd in Command) will be joing me there this year. This weekend we are at the Wickerman festival (executing slaves) and giving prayers to Mithras for the end of season campaign. (Google : Archeolink) to see whats happening. ATB Steve
