The Larue by Lada Edmund Jr. Or Not

OK, I can be wrong. No denial about that ! But why would she suddenly sing ? Had she prefer never to win the public admiration for her hidden secret tallent as a real singer with a voice that showed little if not more (or some) power, depth and even breath leap ? While all of her other materials before and after sounds more like "brat talking" ! She was indeed recognized/popular for that and maybe a better fit as a guaranteed $ recipe... In the video of 'soul a go-go' she's not even lip-synking where she is on the prior recording 'I know something'... Even all the talk around her career is mainly about her dancing 'go-go' girl figure and lately as a charity struggler... her singing career is never really "hyped" about. Not even by her ! And if it's really the same Lada singing 'the larue' all my apologies and respect to her. Truly !

The Larue by Lada Edmund Jr. Or Not

Well, I always loved the 'the larue' and was happy to discover 'soul a go-go' when I first acquired the 45. At one time I was told that she was actually 'blond' and therefor could not be considered a "black" soul artist. I couldn't believe my ears since 'the larue' always sounded so "black" to me. But I can be wrong ! When I saw the add/promo pictures for this 45 it all became clear altogether; she was either the "face" put on the 45 to push it commercially or the 45 was her singing talent "credibility" bought argument. So we can understand that the 'the larue' b/w 'soul a go-go' was very likely specially credited to Lada as a "credibility" 45 (part of the deal or not to ruin the deal in the end) where she was maybe involved (as composer with Eddie Singleton) but left/put aside for her singing abilities... and replace by we don't (can't) know who ! In the risk to upset Lada and we don't want that do we ?

SAM FLETCHER 'I'D THINK IT OVER'TOLLIE

Yes, I've got this totally right. I'll stick to my words up there. Styrene is not automatically "cheap" where vinyl is not always "better", that can't be right. I'll give you that there's a lot of cheap made vinyl that can be very annoying to play. And they made many all over the world since the 6T's, more and more in the 7T's that became dull, ultra static after few plays... Now I acknowledge that indeed styrene inherent life-span (before wear) is kinda shorter than vinyl. This is due to it's "weaker" resistance to mechanical "stylus" friction. but what comes as a major factor when playing them, is the phono set-up you play them on ! Cue burn (on styrene...) for instance is caused by un-proper use with an unfit diamond on. You can not be bothered about what you play your records on and then that's that. But you can't argue that a proper phono set up (doesn't have to be expensive from head to trail) is NOT only an audiophile nerd thing. I also believed for years that it was only a snobbish geek thing to be taught wrong after all. It can be ! It's just not only that. And I do love my good styrene pressings played on my true MONO phono set up. They sound much deeper, airy and tight than their vinyl counterparts! Example; I had a mint Spinners 'I'll always love you' on styrene Motown, it sounded amazing, but I collect them promo & vinyl and so I kept the promo vinyl. But honestly the sound on the styrene was indeed much deeper and airy. Some collect them Motown things on styrene only and that is far from stupid. Now I understand them better. I'm a collector with some collector's reasons which are sometimes... stupid; I just love the rough looks of those Motown promo "block" design logo.

		Eg Taylor On Val

Never seen yours here above before... I'd say yours is the first "home" made press. Then this one under the banner of 'Ideal records' (who ever they are) like the "commonly seen" copies where 'you made me mad' became the 'B' side !!! Maybe that's the why ?

Looking for Denise LasSalle A Love Reputation on Tarpon

Mind you that there are 2 different mixes on Tarpon. One that builds up (the better one IMHO) and the "more" straight cut. The Chess is even another take... The Tarpon's different mixes can be visually identified with the matrixes and not by the color of the label (blue or green) I've been told. I'm not so keen on the song so I've never really bother to dig deeper in it. Inquire some if ever...

It's indeed not a "rare" record. But what a great record ! With 3 different pressing plant involved, the promo copies being the harder to come by with most of the stockers found being pretty worn out, we ought to understand that it was indeed a "popular" record in it's days. Most likely it got at least some air-play and it was definitely a good seller. The best seller for the Wild Deuce label and a Thelma/Groovesville recording (as we love them) !!!- booted
Hi, your top one is styrene from a West-Coast pressing plant, the one below is East-Coast vinyl pressing plant. 3rd one from 'WoodButcher' is FROM A TEXAS (corrected from original post) pressing plant. There's also the Sharon Soul on Wild Deuce with the same vinyl variations from the same East-Coasts pressing plants. No BOOT here.- SAM FLETCHER 'I'D THINK IT OVER'TOLLIE
I would believe that the vinyl for the Bobby Reed on Bell is better. I'll ask a friend here to come over one day to my place with his vinyl copy and compare it direct with my styrene one (that does distort in the highs). I love the looks of the 6T's & 7T's Bell, Amy, Mala... on styrene but they were never the best quality really. Okeh (Columbia) styrene where good !- SAM FLETCHER 'I'D THINK IT OVER'TOLLIE
Vinyl versus styrene debate is endless. Comparing good quality 45 vinyl with good quality 45 styrene pressings on a good quality phono set-up shows that styrene have a "clearer" and "airy" sound where vinyl is "noisy" and "damped" sounding. Vinyls wear out better where styrene tend to suffer from "rough" handling. Some companies used different pressing plants and so the same 45 came out both on vinyl and styrene. Collectors like me go for one or the other depending on the label. Not only accordingly for the "realistic" reasons, but also for subjective esthetic reasons. Some styrene releases are favored by some for their look (label, typos...) and the same goes for some vinyls. In this case, the styrene if clean looks better IMHO and "realistically" sounds much better to do justice to the musical/vocal arrangements and the magnificent sound mastering. And I respect and understand those who prefer the vinyl release on this Sam Fletcher. - Clyde mcphatter one more chance
