  1. Just a note to say that I am back in the chair for Soul People on Solar Radio (website or Sky 0129) for two hours of music and festive fun. This Sunday 10 a.m. Second hour is a festive special featuring James Brown, Al Green, Womack, The Ebonys, Luther, Solomon Burke, The Emotions, Honey & Bees and a host of others all doing Xmas songs!!! No "roasting chestnuts" drivel all good tucker.
  2. I got hold of Curtis (Anderson) in 1981 - not sure how now - probably via phone book as he was a Radio DJ in Baltimore. He sent me over 2 x 12" and a whole host of Charm City 7s, biogs and photos of other artists as well as himself - all of which weren't very good. Remember posting the pic of Curtis on the cover of Blackbeat and doing a little feature on him! The record was still hot at the time (Wigan, Clifton Hall) and I have to say the "boom boom" version always had something about it Andy when you wrote to him he had probably just done "The Hardest Part" - did he send you any copies of that?
  3. Cor Blimee Guv - over £1,000 for a Motown R&W - is that a first?
  4. It's a great floater and his last 45. I read somewhere he got gangreen or something? Yellows with green writing I've always assumed to be the originals.
  5. This is correct on the day I landed in Sydney there was a newspaper article about her amazing at is may seem. She was American originally.
  6. There were three Pye acetates. I have one don't know where the other two are?
  7. I got him to write a regular column in Blackbeat in the late 70s / early 80s. Always controversial, always pushing the boundaries, Sam is a legend. end of.

  9. Different label Richard and that one has nothing to do with Lennie LaCour. Lennie Lacours label was out of Winsconsin (and later Chicago). Yes I bought this for a lot when it was the only known copy. Back then it was def the rarest on the label because no one knew it and we did do quite a bit of research. Just goes to show you......I think they may be a white band and the same dudes as one of the two bands calling themselves the Tornadoes that were on Cuca in the Mid 60s.
  10. I agree Jordi and conversley the Tornadoes was dirt cheap. We didn't even know about it until 5 years ago.
  11. Thanks. Back on air this Sunday at 4 p.m. with another two hour set.
  12. A great record and Melissa Morgan's first 45.
  13. I think they did those programming guides purely to make it easy for dumb old DJs. :
  14. Good to catch up with you Saturday Len, although I did drink too much :
  15. Didn't something similar happen at Prestatyn a couple of years back?
  16. That was much more recent wasn't it?
  17. I know several DJs that take cartridges round with them "just in case" - especially at a venue they don't know.
  18. Colin did spin it at the Mecca. It was also one time biggie for Arthur Fenn. I doubt it was repressed due to "european demand", I have the Psyche copy - always an under-rated sound
  19. You talking Bill Brandon Space Age Lover?. His last Prelude LP one side of it on an acetate
  20. Have about 5,000 CDs was thinking of dumping most of them on ebay since I rarely play the vast majority of them......
  21. Dave, Is this the same acetate as Sam had in his box the other week?
  22. Oh no not again.... Answers from the 'Official rule book' below for ya' :
  23. Lots of folk coming on here saying they only play OV at their venues. However we'd expect that. The ones that don't stick to that format are not likely to shout about it are they?
  24. All the people who were at the front at Wigan are now officially DEAF or "hard of hearing"! Am glad this myth about best dancers at the front is killed off. Back then you danced where you wanted to or more importantly where you could find a bit of space on the floor.
