  1. There has been some fantastic releases over the last few years, I've done several mixes highlighting many aimed at our scene BUT very few seem to crossover to the mainstream all-nighter venues. Is it a case of snobbery towards new releases and the need to swing one's dick proudly showing off yer new £5000 acquisition? is it because they are in the main limited presses and therefore depriving many of owning and hearing a release more often? Is it because promoters will not book Djs who program new releases? Many aren't good enough that is for sure or too far removed from what we grew up dancing too.
  2. You all seem to be confusing the collecting of records with going out. Prices are sky high for a small minority of records, those in demand with the DJs, the classics etc. But there is a massive market out there outside the world of Djs and dance floors and it will remain long after the last rare soul night, not that that is in sight. The same can be said for scooters. Scooters do seen to be popular with youngsters of today, they might not spend 1000s on rebuilds but there is a market away from the music scene. ....and what makes some think the Northern/Rare soul market is bigger than other markets such as country, doo-wop and pop?
  3. Some weekend listening for you...

  6. Ronnie August? & Deneen ?
  7. Did we ever find out who exactly August and Deneen was/are?
  8. It mattered not who it was covered as, or any record for that matter, half the fun was trying to work out, find out who it actually was.

  10. It was big in the mid 80s and then had a revival 10 years ago, give or take a year or two
  11. Excellent record. It's not rare and was always readily available. But it came into demand once more a couple of years or so again and its pretty much a keeper now. I sold one for a ton few years ago.
  12. Is it a free stream? or is it nearly £9? I'd want the video for that tbh. What channel, Vimeo?
  13. Down the canal again this morning...
  14. Volumes is 30 odd years and it definitely been hammered to death for the last 20, Hytones must be 15 years or so now? Still a good record though but wouldn't care if I never heard the Volumes again.

  16. So sorry to hear about your mum. I remember Jenny from years ago, hadn’t seen her for some years though. Sorry I don’t have any photos either. My thoughts with you and your family at this sad time. R.I.P. Jenny
  17. Shocked and saddened by his death. A lively character who would brighten up many a day on the scene and on here. R.I.P.
  18. That and the fact Royal Mail’s main source of income fir centuries has virtually disappeared, the post. They will look at all options to make money.
  19. Popsike has never bern a valid guide, too man anomalies and variables, the green eyed monster descending when bidding etc. Your fillers have mostly remained constant price wise but anything of interest to many, any guide is out of date. You see a record sell for £200, the next seller adds £50 to that, they aren’t happy with the £200 even if 10 copies have sold at that. Having said that recent set sale history, be that list or dealer to collector, or the shop floor as we say when allowed again is about the best guide you will get. Best thing to do is look at as many sources as possible, gather as much sales history as possible, take out the anomalies Any guide is good for reference though.
  20. Johnny Starr?, Jimi Hendrix, Curtis Knight, Ed Chalpin, unknown
  21. he is on the right according to the text under the photo on the site, presuming it reads left to right. There is a question mark too so the author doesn’t seem too sure. https://www.earlyhendrix.com/knight2-menu-pictures-1965studio

  24. Maybe it was a promotional thing at concerts etc?
  25. I have never seen an Lp with any indication there is a free 45 inside? sticker etc. I would imagine though back in the mist of time someone got the Lp with the 45 inside for it to become common accepted knowledge the 45 was given away with the Lp.
