  1. Dealers are the obvious place but they need to make a margin, that's their business and completely understandable. The bigger the dealer the more likely they are to have copies in stock of the more common stuff so anything worth less than £50 you'll not get half its book value that's if they want it at all. Ebay and Discogs will also have a cost to you, Ebay tends to be quicker if you auction them and as long as they are listed well the prices should be fair. Discogs you can set your own expectation on price. You have to consider how quickly you want the money too. Some dealers will sell on consignment just taking a cut form the sale once it sells through their site. If you can find another collector who want to buy and keep some or all of your collection you're likely to get closer to the total value. Best of all sell them via small listings on Facebook or here at no cost.
  2. Common I think, lost count of the times I've done it.
  3. The intro obviously kicks in immediately doesn't it? If you mean the shortest intro before the vocal kicks in how about Drizabone Pressure?
  4. The price is way too low if the music matches my taste and way too high when it doesn't. Seriously though punters used to complain at £6 for a three room event at the Winter Gardens in Blackpool when the Neighbourhood ran it. Ultimately that's what killed the event off. Whatever is reasonable there will be those willing to put on poor events in poor venues playing the lowest common denominator music as a vanity project. That suppresses the price that can be charged.
  5. Absolutely not.
  6. I think Craig Charles shows the calibre of his intelligence in the quote. Roly Fergerson was to blame Dave honest. I think you mentioned it once of twice in the next fanzine lol
  7. I thought this was a mistake when I saw it. Dreadful news. One of life's jokers but also a really knowledgable guy with a cutting wit. There's little one can say to help but hopefully Becky takes some solice from the fact Joe will be missed by many and was taken far too young for anyone's liking. Our thoughts are with Beck and all of Joe's family and close friends. Ged and Margaret
  8. More a case of your over generalisation than my over extrapolation I think. :-) Im sure most people (even Phil lol) already know what Lifeline is all about.
  9. Seriously? I'm not saying they're not; but by implication you're saying the clientele at the vast majority of other venues are neither discerning or knowledgable based on the dancefloor acceptance of one albeit pretty good blues track. Get real FFS.
  10. Calling it a demo doesn't make it a demo. Its bullshit marketing that's all and to charge double is taking advantage of dumb idiots (mostly)
  11. If you buy other things internationally some for a (Chrono24 / WUS etc) have it in their sales rules not to use 'gift' payments on paypal. And if you do the moderators won't get involved in any sales disputes. I use it for record payments to people I know or on low value items only.
  12. They're £3 each if you like a third of them you're better off than buying 30 off here at £10. You'll find stuff that you'll never be able to play out. Doesn't make it bad just not right for most venues. I'd be surprised if you looked up the 'book' value if there's less than £900 quids worth. My last one was over a grands worth by the latest price guide (though I doubt I'd get a grand in real life obviously)
  13. I think its system dependent. Too many sound systems can't handle the bass and so it comes out as distorted. To these ears anyway. I would take both but often you don't know until you try so better to play the "tame" (or clearer) one with a little more gain.
  14. Typo. I've had both from the same source.
  15. That's the $64,000 question. Obviously if I know it its known (to me) semi known is like semi pregnant (WTF). So not one decides you either know it or you don't. QED When someone requests some 'oldies' I play 'oldies' when I know what they are asking for is 'their oldies' and of course I have no idea what they consider oldies in the first place. Particularly if they only went to 'X' venue and for 6 months and then dropped off the scene for XX years. One of my favourite irregular venues at the moment has a policy to play stuff from the Morecambe, Shotts, TOTW era. These are oldies too its just some people don't know them that's all. I doubt the promoters or DJ would thank you for calling their venue an 'Oldies' venue. The term itself is somewhat tarnished. If DJing was simple every one would be doing it.........................ohh hang on a minute.
  16. I'm not sure the quality of 'new' stuff is there. Sorry I'm not sure the quantity of quality new stuff is there like it was. Maybe I'm going to the wrong places but there have been less than a dozen new things that have got me excited in the last couple of years. Yes there's been a lot of reactivated stuff but for me they are 'oldies'. Genuine 'newies' are very few and very far between. I spend time I used to spend on here, searching for new stuff and its neigh on impossible to find. So all too often you have to plump for a forgotten 'oldie' in the hope that enough of the audience don't know it and still think it is good enough. It may be a close second best but it's still second best IMHO.
  17. Ain't No Danger Clifford Curry on import is so so much better than on British and its usually the other way around.
  18. here Worth a listen. A little misundersatning of the term 'northern soul' and patchy live recording on 'IMLY' but good all the same.
  19. OMG Don't tell me Wigan has shut When did that happen? Still hearing the big tunes from there
  20. I understand your point Robb and I wasn't meaning to undervalue either people's personal relationships with Bob, their sense of loss or judge their level of contact. I certainly know from family experience that with depression comes irrationality of thought and sometimes nothing you can say or do will help. I truly wish this wasn't the case and there was a way to help people with depression see the positive influences they have on so many people around them. The circle of positive influence Bob had is wider than most but as you say people with depression don't see that. That for me is the saddest part.
  21. Deeply saddened by this. There are so many on here who would have described Bob as a friend yet the circumstances of his death are not ones that imply a world wide network of true friendships. I'm not the best at just touching base with people for the sake of it, maybe that is a male trait. What I do know is that I wish I'd been closer than the odd clumsy attempt to get some obscure info or to score a hidden Chicago gem. I really wish Bob could have voiced his feelings in a way that could have avoided the eventual outcome. I'm saddened by his passing, sad I'll not get the chance to know him better, sad for his family and a little ashamed that collectively the world is a place where this sort of thing happens all too often. God's speed 'Boba', I only wish you had known your real value to this world.
  22. Changing the bog roll does not count as a refurbishment
  23. You're right of course in legal and technical sense and from a 'customer service' point of view too. But all other things being equal I still think it's easier for the person with the record to make the claim and posting a proof of postage slip is much easier and less risky than sending a damaged record the other way. Just my opinion.
