  4. well for me it would depend on my mood , two very different takes,if i had to choose one it would be this .
  5. picked one up in new york about 18 months ago,50 cent, got it out and played it when you mentioned it being scarce, also a picture of the demo in "the wigan casino years book", hopefully your comment has added a couple of quid onto its value , it is a cracking record , of the 70s disco sounds played in northern clubs, this is in the top flight ( in my opinion)
  6. bought "youre my mellow" over the counter from derek howes record booth ,hmv market street manchester 1976, three quid!, also from there marjorie black one more hurt, £1.00
  7. Seem to have been waiting for this film to come out for years now, i genuinely hope it does the subject justice ,from what i have read , this is going to be the best shot at making such a film, i dont know elaine constantine, but she does seem to be going to extraordinary efforts to get minor period details correct. A s for the kids , there were a group of them at an all nighter i attended recently, and i spoke to a couple of them briefly they seemed to be in fancy dress, but they were full of excitement and enthusiasm , i,m not sure if it was for the scene or the fact that they were going to be in a film , like i say i want it to work, just wish they would hurry up !
  8. Not wishing to sound too pedantic, but i think you will find the line in the song is "our hopes and dreams will come true " not "i hope these dreams will come true ", this woman wasnt merely hoping her dreams would come true, she had already decided they were going to. masterpiece.
  9. as well as records coming over as ballast, american comics came the same way, they were always in the newsagents as a kid and i remember some of them were 3 of 4 years old at the time. these were mainly dc comics , green lantern batman superman etc the adverts in these comics gave an insight into what seemed like a magical world at the time,i suppose the love of soul music which came a few years later was an extension of this, having been fortunate to visit america regularly over the past 30 years i no longer have this view of the place at all, but from a kids viewpoint in the mid sixties america was it.
  10. remember hitching from manchester with tom neilan to that, some guys from bradford had broke into a slot machine and gave us some of the proceeds, we paid for the bus home with 2ps , seems like another lifetime now, happy days !
  11. thanks for posting the album covers, but having a bit of a laugh about the guy, wheres the harm in that?hes too busy having lunch with diana ross to be reading this
  12. this is one of the reasons i keep "the scene" at arms length nowardays, still attend soul nights half a dozen times a year and usually get in a couple of all nighters, but really why do people take it so serious? soul music has been a lifetime passion for me and much as i appreciate and treasure an item on original vinyl, dont some of the early pressings have some kind of provenance also, ?some of these are over 40 years old now, there seems to be a misplaced morality regarding recording rights and payments to artists that may have held some validity in the seventies but now, come on that ship has sailed , i would say do what the f**k you want, trying to fit yourself to the whims of the northern soul self proclaimed in crowd is not an endeavour a grown man should be undertaking.
  13. well for me , in this vein it would have to be the impressions its alright , or maybe junior walker got to hold onto this feeling , both very uplifting .
  14. its hung up on display at rocks off music , 65 drake street rochdale, not sure of price , call em on 01706521818
  15. midnight movers, yes , more i think about it, it seems there are hundreds of track titles that would do the trick, ton of dynamite, going to a happening,, soulsville, , please let us know what you decide , back in my day i dont think you needed a name , people just talked about the venue,or the town it was in, a good name does set it off right, there was a club night in manchester about fifteen years ago , called northern funk, this name couples with atmospheric views of manchester and salford in the sixties on the flyers made it look and sound a really sweet place, never went though , i dont think it could have lived up to the image.
  16. how about the copenhagen casino,(joke) i think a good name would be two in the morning after the spooners crowd instumental, , all true soulies would love to visit that place
  17. excellent , absolutely hilarious.
  18. No flies on you Tony, nice to see you in town the other day. yes i remember the old fivers as well, there was a bar on the other side of the road called the playground i think, it decorated a wall with old 45s stuck on , someone , russ wilde from stockport i think peeled off gene chandler nothing can stop me on stateside , if anyone has a copy of this with the b side label torn off , thats probably where it came from
  19. there is a rumour that has been doing the rounds in manchester for decades that there was a tunnel connecting tommy ducks to the midland hotel, anyone know anything about this ,? also our meeting place before the ritz was paddys goose or rowntrees sound in paddys goose you got a lot of the sale blue room / blackpool mecca crowd,, i was more a wigan, sixties person, but as i remember it we all got on well and both camps would meet at carolines on a tuesday and at the ritz for the all dayers , i.m talking about the manchester crowd in the mid seventies .
