Good Records
Bin done B4 this one Steve..........gotta agree with Pete as well, always got to Wigan early doors for Russ, enjoyed his spots, set the tone of the night, but he did go off the boil in the latter days. My fave Russ record was Patrice Holloway 'Stolen Hours' (plus the one I mentioned last time which was Dee Dee Barnes). Always liked Patti Labelle Lovin' Rules, Lou Roberts 'You Fooled Me' and Mikey Lanay 'I'm Gonna Walk'. He also played (albeit briefly) and later sold me Sonny Herman 'What About Me' on Utopia, Sammy Lee 'What Goes Around' on Promco, so he cant have been all bad.

Current Orwell spin - wonderful record!- Top Ten Northern Soul Towns
Hi Steve Yes we closed on the 11th Anniversary - Must admit when I first saw the list in Kev's book I was a little disappointed that St Helens was not included but I guess there are quite a few who wern't included and as you say Warrington (Parr Hall) and Widnes should have been in there. Saints WAS special and never really went mainstream so wasn't picked up on the NS radar probably due to the scene not being as big as it was in the late early 70' early 80's and then in the late 90's Y2K. BUT what it did do was re-enthuse many of the people who are still passionate about the music today. I wont name names but there are many DJ's (and punters) on the scene today who will tell you straight away that the Saints Club changed their lives as far as coming back into Northern Soul is concerned. Many of them went on to play a key role in either breaking great records as DJ's or promoting superb venues. We won't even mention the groud breaking 'On The Real Side' extra sessions which were the forerunner to the Ridgeway Arms and Orwell Crossover nights. So I look at it like this - 'Better to have been loved by a few than liked by many' and loved it was - I doesn't really matter if it's included in the list because like you Steve the people who went month in month out, at the time where part of something that was special and made a difference. So to all who were there - Respect to you The thread is about Soul Towns- so please add St Helens to the list not only for Saints but the tribes of people who filled the last bus and train to the Casino and the band of 'Scousers' who over the years have supported Pitches, Parkers, Yate, Stafford, Morecambe, Cassinellis and hundreds of more Northern and soul nights across that UK. Deffo a 'Soul Town' IMHO All The Best Steve Baz- The Best Clapping Tunes

Great Record...........keep an eye on e-bay, just picked this up for small $$$- Joanie Summers
Hi Steve always remember you being mad on both these at 'The Saints' if memory serves me right, think I 'obtained' that copy for your birthday - great days! Played JS at Bury last week, sounded great in there and it packed the floor. Nuff said!- Anyone Any Guesses Why This Is So Cheap?
There are east and west coast promos of this record. The Guy on e-bay has astated that it has a paper lable (personally, looking at the scan i'm sceptical of this as per Pete Smiths obsrevation) BUT it COULD be a real one. I'd rest easy with a west coat demo or a beautiful BLACK ISSUE ! saw one at Prestwich a few months ago................... Baz M- Another Record Theft Comes To Light
So pardner......... no varmit lynchin t'day then?- Jessie Henderson 12" On Lasso
"any idea how I could tell the difference between them?" Other than the extra £292 to buy it ;-) The orig is basically a blue/black paint splash lable where as the reissue is a weaker reddish affair and the Lasso is solid yellow. Looks like South Brother in London are stocking the LOH reissue Hope this helps Regards Baz - Played And Forgotten Modern Soul
