Maybe Melfi cut the acetate in the hope that Isaac Hayes himself would record it......hence the "rap" intro that Mr Hayes used in a lot of his recordings Then Melfi sent the 45 with note to show his dissapointment ? Maybe its John Melfi himself on the acetate ? It would be good to hear his later (Pyramid ?)version to compare the voices Cheers Paul

Yes the T&C gig I remember.... they had to turn off the power to get him offstage! He was the only one left on stage (still playing) the rest of the band were long gone Saw him in DC in 2006 and got the chance to speak to him after the gig..........he remembered the Astoria gig but couldn't remember the T&C one! Really like "So Hes Yours Now" from this LP.........but you're right it is a good all round album "You Did Not Stay Last Night" (WMOT) 45 from 1980 is anothr one I really like...........longer version to be found on her WMOT LP "Yes I'm Ready" Agree with garethx as well most of her stuff is woth a listen as she 'gets inside" and interprets the songs so well Cheers Paul

I would guess that Sandras version came 1st as its very similar to Gladys and it seems strange Buddah would put it out after Gladys had such a big hit with it. Unless "The Ring" was the plug side but that doesn't look likely to me from the numbers on the label. A shame because I think "The Ring" could well have been a soul hit.
