  1. pardon my ignorance.....is this it ?
  2. Would imagine the Invitations and "Bird" are pretty big there?
  3. New to my ears.....just gave it a couple of listens on yt.......nice, no way too fast for me personally and all I can say is that it must be one of those that grows on you for folk to reckon it "the best ever !"
  4. I'll have some of that........not heard the Dynamics - I need your love... for ages, cracker.
  5. I'd say patch is from '76-7 as stated. Went to some of the best dayers ever been to there.......really set the bench-mark......and one of the best venues. Mecca and Wigan under the same roof. Ritz was still being used for big band ball room dances for our mums and dads and the resident band was "Vic Lazelles Professionals" according to the posters My old man thought it was dead funny that we were going there......"dressed like that".
  6. Thanks for posting.....never knew the bloke....obviously a top lad.
  7. RIP Danny...........sorry for your loss Manusff3a
  8. Always loved it.....got it as a ringtone on my phone....it identifies my mate Big Paul (22st +)........he likes a barbecue
  9. There were nights being promoted as "the Sink" in Liverpool up to a couple of years ago, Sunday nights I think, and one of the Sink DJ's did a spot at the revived wheel in Whitworth Street. Couple of my mates went a few times and said it was pucka and well attended.
  10. Ship Ahoy......1990.......2+2...........probably the three most played albums on my "music centre" as a youth
  11. One of my mates from Shaw (nr Oldham) made a visit to the Raven early seventies.....had a good rep' round our way.......never got there unfortunately even though I had family there (Malpas).
  12. Still got that album, and a Soul Sisters' album on Sue......bought 'em about '76 off Bill Honney (used to be a "junior" dj at the Wheel).
  13. "SKF".........was that the post code for the club mate ? You can't half tell 'em
  14. Can't play the vid on this link or direct on youtube for some reason.........but get the gist from the above remarks. Bit too late to worry about other people cashing in on the scene. As for the kids (not seen it so assuming they aren't my vintage) appearing in this or any other video how the f*ck is that a problem ? Its up to anyone who can dance to dance when, where and for whom they choose....just like if is for any record collector to set about d-jaying when, where and for whom he chooses. As stated in the previous post, like it or not, Its not an underground scene anymore.
  15. Sorry to hear the news RIP Dave
  16. Good luck and best wishes to Dave
  17. It was elitist not just 'cos of the music.....the whole deal as a youth culture There seems to be a three way split now and the elitist aspect is still there no doubt.........each to his own Loud 'n proud is my preferred way so I don't mind what an outsider's take is they can like it or lump it.......but they won't see me personally in bags 'n vest either way Know what you mean though
  18. Can't remember hearing since the early oldies niters at Wigan remember the "day tripper-like" guitar riff and thought the lyric was "rugby league baby, rugby league!!" right up my street though
  19. Listening is an involuntary activity, dancing is a voluntary activity. Maybe the need to physically rev up to dance, plus the adrenalin, plus you have switched from just listening to concentrating on what you're hearing in order to recognize the stuff that you want to dance to, makes the difference.....so its a kind of natural behaviour? Maybe people "enjoy" the music in a different way with no dance-floor in the sense of appreciating the music for its qualities other than the beat or rythm and tempo that you look for, or actually need, in a dance track?
  20. "Northern Soul" ......................some thought we were freaks in the 70's and some will associate NS with the much derided retro fashion set today ......................so what? Sounds like a lot of people are ashamed of admitting it.............I'm not.
  21. Robert Parker - where the action is
  22. So do I Pete. Don't wish to put a downer on the blokes currently running the dayers at the Ritz, but not the same venue anymore so wouldn't suit the niter RV's suggesting IMO, dancefloor's knackered and the place kitted out more of a stage and standing audience venue for live gigs now.
  23. Went to most of those niters with Ronnie Hanley...........very fond memories of my favourite venue Always tried to persuade my other mates to turn out but most had hung up their all night boots by then Great vibe as not packed to the rafters like the old dayers and felt more intimate somehow
  24. only people who cleaned up in there were the rollers
