That's interesting Karl, do you have any idea as to the numbers involved. Looking on Discogs which I'm aware isn't always accurate they released several other Ltd tunes the last two being limited. Any idea of the numbers released on a normal issue if they upped the limited and to what they upped it to? As you say fair play to them catering for the demand.

First off thank you for taking up my suggestion Mike. I currently buy about the same as pre Covid. A mix of predominantly originals, an occasional splurge on reissues of tunes not so much that I couldn't afford on an original issue but go for more than I would want to pay. Also buy new releases. I have no strong views either way on the rights or wrongs of limited releases, fully understand buyers frustrations when they miss out. Happy Feet's suggestion above seems a reasonable one to at least perhaps stop people buying multiple copies for profit, not 100% sure it would though.

Original Gravity's Floyd James release of Green Onions initially a limited 300 run was repressed a couple of months ago with a different b side. On the notification email it said re pressed due to multiple requests from customers which I suppose is another way of saying public demand. This tme it was limited to 250, there is no indication on the site as to how many are left but it is still avaliable. My point being only those issuing the records the likes of Diggin Deep, Last Bastion, Hit and Run etc know the hard work and stress that goes into the whole process and what the likelihood is of potentially selling x number of records. If it were you and you knew you could sell 300 but might, just might sell and extra 200 which way would you go. Don't get me wrong I'm not defending limited releases nor am I decrying them. I think we should be grateful that there are people out there taking the time and trouble to bring us these tunes. I've missed out on as many if not more than I've managed to get. I don't know any of the people involved in releasing these records but would imagine the rewards financially when all considered are small. Being potentially left with unsold records could I guess wipe out any profit and who sets out intentionally on a project to lose money. I know this doesn't answer your question and I fully realise if some limited releases were done in greater numbers they would eventually sell as they got played out.

I'd agree with that, there was a discussion on another thread about limiting releases to 300 copies and that not being enough. I have some sympathy for those releasing limited editions, they can't do right for doing wrong, as you say Russ some sell out but plenty don't. The recent issues of Jon Skinner and Kim Tibbs being examples of sell outs that are now being touted at way above original selling price, conversely North Broad St's recent limited release still has around 100 copies for sale. Searling's Johnny Baker release which he urged people to be quick or miss out copies of which quickly appeared on Discogs at £90 have now levelled out around £45 and don't appear to be moving on that quickly. That release I'm not proud to say was the only one I've bought with a view to possibly selling on, I'd just started buying again and didn't have a lot of spare cash thinking it would fund future purchases, what was in my head at that point I don't know as I have little experience of selling other than to mates. Still got it and probably always will. It is also the only record I've bought not actually liking the song. Like you I've bought quite a few limited editions, some of which are still avaliable and for less than I paid. Some have gone up in price which is nice but as I'm never going to sell them is of no importance other than a little extra for the kids on my demise.

I was surprised to see he has Craig Douglas Don't Mind if I Cry listed as UK only which had releases in India Portugal and South Africa. Maybe in this case the UK only relates to a demo copy.

Hearing Unexpected Music In Unexpected Places!
Twoshoes replied to Tony Turner's topic in All About the SOUL
Home Bargains seems to have an eclectic playlist on its piped music, quite often find myself shuffling along in front of the beer shelves seeing what specials they have. This week Harry J Liquidator came on, something far more obscure played once but can't bring to mind what it was. -
Welcome Robert,

It happens all the time, I use Discogs as a guide along with Popsike for any record I'm interested in that come up on Ebay. Knowing how much I can get one for I then watch the one on Ebay, I rarely get the ebay one, records with multiple copies on Discogs at under twenty quid regularly go for at least a tenner more. I've also had personal experience of the follow the leader mentality on Discogs, seller had record open to offers, his was one of the cheapest plus on British which I would have preferred. In no way expensive but his postage was a fiver on a £12 record, I offered him a tenner, didn't get a refusal notice but did get a message saying seller had relisted item. He'd increased price to £15 same as everyone else, 18 months later record is still sat there.

We watched the first series of The Other One, no mention of Northern in that one, came up in the episode before the one highlighted. I wish they had left it at that, I found this one embarrassing and in no way reflected a true Northern night for me.

These brought back some memories when I found them amongst a load of 45s in a charity shop, the woman behind the counter was dumbfounded when I offered a £1 for them, I assume they did the record sleeves for ex jukebox records.

Jon Allen/skinner brothers- feel alright

On the initial thread on here about the release it was predicted to sell out fast, I think I'm right in saying when I checked the on site sales it was still available a few days after Sunday not showing as sold out until later in the week. I ordered mine at 5 past twelve early Sunday morning and got copy no39 so I guess I wasn't the only one waiting in anticipation. Cheers to Chalky for his advice on that thread to not over sleep on this one. -
Welcome Mike, enjoy the journey you have much to discover

My copy plays the extended version on the A side, anyone else found the same? -
There's been threads before on the subject, if you scroll down to the bottom of this thread there's a list of previous discussions on the subject. Seem to remember someone mentioned a specific pair of Adidas as the best trainers on one thread. I personally prefer leather soles. I've have a pair of Loake penny loafers, some Delicious Junction brogues and a pair of Bass Weejuns, all leather soled all great for dancing in.

I had a similar experience in Liverpool late 70's I think, Wilson Picket supported by Phillip Mitchell, very sparse crowd but Mr Pickett sang his heart out. Don't know if I have persuaded myself this happened over the years but I recall he stopped singing until someone bought him a whiskey, anyone else there can confirm this.

I don't think the playing of questionable records is exclusively the domain of the rare soul scene. When you see a group of knowledgeable long time devotees of the scene dancing in a circle with arms waving in the air to Petula Clarke that for me was baffling. They were enjoying themselves so I suppose as always it comes down to one man's meat, to each his own etc. I don't consider it as sinking low , whether you like the record or not it does have its merits as a good tune of its kind and if someone considers it worthy of playing out fair play to them.
-
Cannot remember where but someone on here said he played it out, maybe about three years ago. Seem to remember he said it got quite a good reaction. I actually like the tune, won't claim it to be soul and I did buy a copy. Playing the A side someone must have been doing some serious digging to flip it over. Memory is sketchy but I think he said he played it at an all nighter in the Midlands possibly. Again not sure but he might have posted either a play list or a podcast with it on. I definitely remember the comment though.
