Hearing Unexpected Music In Unexpected Places!
Home Bargains seems to have an eclectic playlist on its piped music, quite often find myself shuffling along in front of the beer shelves seeing what specials they have. This week Harry J Liquidator came on, something far more obscure played once but can't bring to mind what it was.

whats this all about ?
It happens all the time, I use Discogs as a guide along with Popsike for any record I'm interested in that come up on Ebay. Knowing how much I can get one for I then watch the one on Ebay, I rarely get the ebay one, records with multiple copies on Discogs at under twenty quid regularly go for at least a tenner more. I've also had personal experience of the follow the leader mentality on Discogs, seller had record open to offers, his was one of the cheapest plus on British which I would have preferred. In no way expensive but his postage was a fiver on a £12 record, I offered him a tenner, didn't get a refusal notice but did get a message saying seller had relisted item. He'd increased price to £15 same as everyone else, 18 months later record is still sat there.

Northern Soul In the Mainstream 2022
We watched the first series of The Other One, no mention of Northern in that one, came up in the episode before the one highlighted. I wish they had left it at that, I found this one embarrassing and in no way reflected a true Northern night for me.

A-Z of Record Shop Bags (new publication)
These brought back some memories when I found them amongst a load of 45s in a charity shop, the woman behind the counter was dumbfounded when I offered a £1 for them, I assume they did the record sleeves for ex jukebox records.

Jon Allen/skinner brothers- feel alright
On the initial thread on here about the release it was predicted to sell out fast, I think I'm right in saying when I checked the on site sales it was still available a few days after Sunday not showing as sold out until later in the week. I ordered mine at 5 past twelve early Sunday morning and got copy no39 so I guess I wasn't the only one waiting in anticipation. Cheers to Chalky for his advice on that thread to not over sleep on this one.

Dancing shoes
There's been threads before on the subject, if you scroll down to the bottom of this thread there's a list of previous discussions on the subject. Seem to remember someone mentioned a specific pair of Adidas as the best trainers on one thread. I personally prefer leather soles. I've have a pair of Loake penny loafers, some Delicious Junction brogues and a pair of Bass Weejuns, all leather soled all great for dancing in.

Best live soul act you have seen?
I had a similar experience in Liverpool late 70's I think, Wilson Picket supported by Phillip Mitchell, very sparse crowd but Mr Pickett sang his heart out. Don't know if I have persuaded myself this happened over the years but I recall he stopped singing until someone bought him a whiskey, anyone else there can confirm this.

Barry Young - Show Me The Way.
I don't think the playing of questionable records is exclusively the domain of the rare soul scene. When you see a group of knowledgeable long time devotees of the scene dancing in a circle with arms waving in the air to Petula Clarke that for me was baffling. They were enjoying themselves so I suppose as always it comes down to one man's meat, to each his own etc. I don't consider it as sinking low , whether you like the record or not it does have its merits as a good tune of its kind and if someone considers it worthy of playing out fair play to them.

Barry Young - Show Me The Way.
Cannot remember where but someone on here said he played it out, maybe about three years ago. Seem to remember he said it got quite a good reaction. I actually like the tune, won't claim it to be soul and I did buy a copy. Playing the A side someone must have been doing some serious digging to flip it over. Memory is sketchy but I think he said he played it at an all nighter in the Midlands possibly. Again not sure but he might have posted either a play list or a podcast with it on. I definitely remember the comment though.

Jesus 😡😡
Sadly due to sellers on Ebay listing a record under as many musical genres as possible to get maximum search results it will probably get worse. I wonder is it just us or do collecters of say heavy rock shake their heads (oops course they do) when ABBA comes up under rock. I had to smile the other day when Charlie Drake Please Mr Custer came up in one of my searches, happy memories of children's favourites. Three Wheels on my Wagon etc which working on HGV's was one I would often break out into song to the amusement of older workmates and the bafflement of the apprentices.

Is it really worth buying from America
I've mentioned this before on a thread earlier this year. I have a want's list on Discogs where I put records obviously that I want but also tunes I hear on podcasts etc that are new to me and I might consider buying at some stage. I had a Jerry Butler that was listed by several sellers ,only a cheapie ranging from £7 to £15 in a range of conditions. After lying in my wants list for months I decided to buy, one guy had a mint copy for £9 accepting offers. Most of his listings were non soul records. Being cheeky I thought well if he is accepting offers I'll offer him £7. I quickly got a reply declining my offer. Bearing in mind the majority of the listings had been there since I first put the record on the list there clearly was little demand. Lo and behold I then got a message telling me the seller had relisted the record at £15 the same price as several others proving your point to some degree. I did buy a copy from someone else but kept it on my wants list to see if his sold, no surprise it is still there.

Lovely area Andy, I stayed in Plockton about 15 yrs ago, my former neighbours were Scottish and her parents had a holiday home just above the Loch. We had a memorable night in the Plockton Inn with local musicians playing being joined by young people from if memory serves me right a nearby music school. Cheated just looked it up and for once my memory did serve, Sgoil Chiùil na Gàidhealtachd (National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music) at Plockton High School Highland.
