  1. Yes it's him, long time fave spin here in several NYC dj boxes
  2. The way she breathes into the mike on Ball of Fire makes my knees buckle every time, pure soul Mentioned on here once before but have a copy of her other recording, full out blinding version of Eddie Holland's "Leaving here", seems to be all but unknown but it's amazing
  3. I bought a David Robinson on Orbitone as that's my little brother's name

Flip of Gene Toones "WMDYW" on Simco gets my vote, stunningly bad

If there was a group called Fish and Chips would they win?
  7. Most glaring one I know is Alphonso Hamilton on Gateway "I'll let you go fwee" (killer track though, has the immortal line "Just put an egg in your shoe and beat it")
  8. If you ever make it to our club Joan we focus on unknowns, so we'll play every side twice in a row just so you can dance the second time around, ok!

I have a stunning Italian picture sleeve of Something happened to me, haven't seen elsewhere
  10. Chalky listen to the show here, it's right near the start https://www.wfmu.org/playlists/shows/20018
  11. Still don't know where the JM Tommy Dent went, but a brief history of the record for you: Greg Tormo found the first which he traded to Finewine c. 1999, Finewine funnily right after that found the 2nd which he traded to me in mid 2000, Haim Kenig then had the 3rd in about 2003 which I won on ebay for very little despite it having a soundfile so happily sat on a spare for a fair old while until selling it to a good friend, then no more copies showed up for several years until 2 just a month apart recently, one was on ebay for a heartbeat then the clueless seller pulled it early and sold to Sebastian, think then Oscar R sent a copy to JM to auction (guessing it was you Oscar?), and as far as know that's it, us NY boys have quietly known about it for a decade+ and not seen any others floating around anywhere which is crazy considering it's on Cobblestone, Tommy and his band used to play here in Greenwich Village in the late 60's, oh to hear this live!! Incidentally don't know the condition of Seb's but all the other copies are in great shape.
  12. Funnily Edith Brown goes hand in hand with Tommy Dent as an "old" NY spin thanks to the esteemed Mr Finewine, check the date of the show, happy that this particular copy is now safely in my hands! And the first known Two Plus Two was here too, Greg Tormo take a bow. March 9, 2001 Showing solidarity with the Mardi Gras revelers! Listen to this show! 13. One for the last 10 years here in NYC Kev, 3 of us within a few miles of each other have copies, a 4th surfaced recently and now resides in Scandinavia, then the one John auctioned today, stone killer 45
  14. I got beaten by a fellow NY collector on a very rare (4 figure $) garage 45, when next saw him and congratulated him his face didn't do the right thing so asked why, he has a PO box and was in a rush picking up all his packages from the week and consolidating them into one pile, when he got home he realised that 45 was missing and he must have mistakenly thrown it out amongst all the boxes/packaging, ran back across town to the post office but never managed to find it, very painful
  15. Hyperions "Why you wanna treat me" $20, mint unplayed, in a marked Chatahoochee section in a well known US locale, must have just come into stock as no UK soulie would have missed that with their eyes shut Cody Black "I'm slowly molding" uk5 in Manchester at a record fair, well worth the price of the train ticket up there!
  16. M-S

Family Plann (yes, 2 n's) isn't "a bit funky", it's actually a riot, sounds like the best record the Jackson 5 never made with a kiddie lead vocal exactly like a young MJ, have even had it requested as "that great Jackson 5 record!", title is C'mon let's do the breakdown, same group later did some crap proto-disco on Florida's Drive label.

Not many of these around, I've got a clean one, know Russ/Rustler does too, other than that not sure as whenever it comes up in discussion it always generates into a useless squabble over which of the 3 versions of the song is better! (Answer, this one of course, haha!! )
  20. Used to have a lot of fun playing this out before was known and watching the reaction, RIP Lobby Loyde!
  21. Honne Welch - Woman Child on the same label is superb, killer flip too
  22. As Bob rightly points out, I do have a copy on Orr there's another Twinight copy here in NYC too but that's not going anywhere for sure.

I've been looking for one for a fair old while The refosoul recording on here sounds like it slows down weirdly in a couple of places as was being recorded, hmm have a Districts on Nile don't really think of them as over similar, I more like how the lead singer's voice sounds like the equally booming lead on the Vanguards "Thought of losing your love" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwht45MuLjg
