  1. Well done indeed,a great milestone achieved with passion and hard graft. Personally can't wait for the Pied Piper compilation....Keep up the good work!
  2. Nice track, and great info to boot guys! Respect wilxy
  3. Thanks for that Rob, alas I'm looking for specifics in relation To JW in this instance, however I'd be interested in elaboration with regard to your quote regarding the labels you mention with respect to Detroit based production.
  4. Whilst I appreciate Jackie Wilson was born, bred, and sadly died In Detroit, could anyone enlighten me apart from his early collaborations with Berry Gordy, which of his mid to late 60's/early 70's recordings were actually produced in Detroit? I know several of his releases are credited to Sonny Sanders, and that Higher and Higher/I'm the one to do it were produced with the Funk Brothers and the Andantes albeit this apparently was recorded in New York? I'd be extremely grateful for any feedback Thanx wilxy

Superb record Duncan, which i was lucky enough to pick up a nice stock copy of a fortnight ago, after having craved a copy for a long while, best of luck with the sale mate
  6. Very much in agreement with the views echoed regarding Betty Boo, "Say it isn't so"...Great track
  7. Some superb production teams mentioned, but from a "Northern" Soul perspective, the Hestor / Wylie partnership takes the plaudits for me
  8. Great stuff H.C.,Looking forward to the Gloucester allnighter even moreso now
  9. somebody obviously used their loaf
  10. Al Kent-The way you've been acting lately-Ric-Tic......A 45 that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up on first hearing, and still does today
  11. I bet you can't name them all
  12. Dave Greenhill, Stuart Tyler,Shane Cox, and as already mentioned Des Parker......Whilst they entertain on a regular basis at SHS, London they play "Proper Northern" with both imagination, and fervour........very underrated, yet very, very good
  13. A very good point Phil, particularly with reference to "inverted snobbery", and whilst certainly not criticising the rare element with regards to playlists in general, it only goes to prove by virtue of a lot of the 45's featured, that there are many great records that stay under the radar purely because they are deemed "cheap"......Great thread once again I might add
  14. I remember such a scenario back in 1972 ish Bristol Top Rank, they were late and we had to get the train back to Newport, so missed half their performance.....seems to be a theme, with regard to "timekeeping"
  15. Whilst I'm a Detroit vinyl collector, several items will never take their place in my own collection, Wombat, Getting on life, Burning Bush, Keeps on Burning, and Tim Tam & the Turn ons,Wait a minute......Absolute dirge......well IMHO anyway

  17. TBH over the last almost 40 years of attending "Northern do's", I've heard some stupendous vinyl, played by some very influential DJ's, inclusive of the classic "spinners" already mentioned, and current entertainers" such as messers Dobson and Dyson remain undoubtedly amongst the leaders of refreshing the current playlists so to speak, however I wish to put a slightly different angle on the original post, as interpreted from the Deejay perspective! Whilst I'm pretty "liberal" with regard my overall choice of a listening perspective, I attended a local Soul night , yesterday and whilst I've often taken for granted, both playlists and the DJ's "performance", realised that sometimes, certain DJ's are taken for granted.... However.Jerry Hipkiss AKA Hippo impressed me from a different perspective, that I'd probably dismissed from a total DJ'ing performance, and along with his long time buddy and Soul associate Paul O'brian , totally impressed me with the actual Art of Deejaying! ...... Both .Awesome entertainment.....and really enjoyable

I don't think I'd fancy a Soul night where you are currently based Russ

    Deon Jackson.
  21. To be honest Pete, had I not known some of the Philly items it would be quite easy to confuse some of them with being Detroit productions, so I suppose ii could be a case of the "Chicken and the egg" with regard to my earlier point of mimicking certain riffs, in as much as who was actually mimicking who?
  22. Hi Dave, with regard to the Vocanos tracks, Storm Warning/Laws of love, and I believe A Lady's man are the 3 "alleged" Detroit recordings, there maybe more, but as you rightly say the links/connections between several US cities and Detroit make it difficult to substantiate.......Great though......makes the mind boggle Regards wilxy
