Funky Soul
For what its worth, I'm not anti-any particular "sub-genre" as such, but as already stated, whole sets of blandness be it whatever "style" doesn't float my particular boat, and whilst we're on the subject of funk(ish) stuff, I've been bored stiff by a few one hour sessions of utter dirge at a couple of venues I like to attend.....if it is indeed deemed to be "new breed/the way forward"....then it ain't for me I'm afraid!

Andre Williams-Detroit Soul Lp's
Cheers for the feedback fellas, I'm guessing the Detroit link in the title of the latter two albums is basically to do with his time in the Motor City rather than the actual tracks on these dittys, as Chicago and Texas labelled releases are included, or am I being naive?

Andre Williams-Detroit Soul Lp's
Whilst wandering around my "old home town" today I came across 2 of a series(?) of vinyl Albums, namely Andre Williams-Detroit Soul volumes 3 and 4 in a record stall in the indoor provisions market!. Whilst apart from the track listings and pictures of a variety of label photos on the lower rear part of the sleeve/slight colour variation on sleeves/labels the information on both sleeve notes and an inner A4 sheet "The true story of Andre Williams in his own words" They are virtually identical!!! There are no credits on either sleevenotes or label, and no manufacturing address other than Detroit Michigan. The albums themselves appear to be quite recent, and my only lead came from the stall proprioters statement that Andre Williams had appeared at a now defunct live music establishment in Newport called TJ's some ten years or so prior!!!!In my "own backyard" I ask you????? I'm as mystified by his "appearance" as I am about the albums?????......Can Anyone advise?

I must say, early doors at the Burnley "batcave"( courtesy of Phil Kowalski,'s "tenancy" of the venue) I recall Karl Heard, "mastering the art of Funky edged Northern" which actually appealed to me.......my latterday/ interpretation of the majority of 70's Funk numbers played .....is Bland.....unless anyone can convince me otherwise,?

Big Beat Ballads
I can't believe trhat nobody has mentioned the best double-sider ......I never loved her anyway/You got too much going for you....by Jimmy Beaumont on US Bang......I remember buying this on a yellow UK London demo off Steve Jefferies at Albrighton, some time back, and me and my late mate Paul Fisher listening to it and flipping it over on our return from said allnighter.......no words but just looks and thoughts needed......Absolute priceless IMHO, and something that remains in my mind forever

Are there any OVO modern do's?

Just How Big Is The Modern Scene?
What does the term Modern Soul actually mean nowadays? 70's /80's/90's or bang up to date releases, and by the way, a genuine question rather than sarcasm

I must say that I totally agree with Russ from an ethos perspective, and whilst I have utmost respect for Dj's who were both pioneers of "our" scene and of great influence, sell the" tools of your trade", and "were" is the operative word.....There are many more with the enthusiasm that you once posessed, and it all moves on, and I speak from a collectors perspective, and "no longer a wanna be DJ"

Burnley Allnighter Podcast - Now Up On Soundcloud
I have to agree with Terry.......The music during Phil's tenure certainly was top notch, and most certainly my fave must visit venue, sadly moreover and for whatever reason, the attendances sadly didn't always do the music the justice that it deserved
