  2. Arctic Records - Online Documentary Video - Art Of Life An online documentary all about Arctic Records - 9 minute video from 2015 View full article
  3. Thanks to Dave Withers for passing on the info on this great online documentary all about... Arctic Records Friday Arts is a 30-minute arts, culture and entertainment magazine that features three distinct stories about the arts and the artists in our area. Friday Arts casts a light on some of Philadelphia's best-kept secrets in the arts. ART OF LIFE — PRODUCED BY KAREN SMYLES Founded by WDAS program director/deejay Jimmy Bishop in conjunction with Jamie/Guyden Records in 1964, Arctic Records was one of Philadelphia’s most important early soul labels, greatly influencing the subsequent rise of Philly soul. Barbara Mason’s classic “Yes, I’m Ready” was the label’s biggest seller in 1965; she quickly became Arctic’s flagship artist, making a slew of splendid follow-ups as well. Kenny Gamble gained invaluable experience at Arctic, not just as a songwriter and producer but as a smooth-voiced singer. Arctic hosted the Volcanos and the Ambassadors, two of the City of Brotherly Love’s finest male vocal groups, and the sexy, sultry Honey & the Bees. Daryl Hall got his start at Arctic as lead tenor with blue-eyed soulsters the Temptones; Della Humphrey’s debut Arctic single hit when she was barely in her teens. Add vocalists Kenny Hamber, Winfield Parker, and Herb Johnson; inspired one-offs by Cindy Gibson, Dee Dee Barnes, and Billy Floyd, and Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes in their pre-Teddy days, and what you end up with is an incredibly consistent Philly soul label, from its inaugural girl group issue by the Tiffanys to the stirring Royal Five 45 that closed out Arctic’s release schedule. hit to play - wait out for the 5 second pause Friday Arts sits down with Frank Lipsius, President of Jamie Record Company, and son of Arctic founder, for the story behind it all. We also meet and hear the smooth sounds of a few original Arctic recording artists as they come together in the studio to work on “Soul Singer”, new songs produced by legendary record producer, Tom Moulton. And last but not least, Philadelphia’s own rock & soul music historian, Jerry Blavat takes us back in time and ties it all together. The video and full article can be viewed via http://whyy.org/cms/fridayarts/arctic-records/
  4. ask paul mason motown too commercial I just want to take a baseball bat to most of the posters. and I've been trying so hard to be nice recently.
  5. That was the '73 re-issue wasn't it ? Re-issue as in due to NS plays as not released in UK back in '67. And yes loads of US original copies in Manchester at 10p I think around '71. NRS was it called ? Outlet in Blackpool too. ROD
  6. Album track I've only just come across
  7. Someone mentioned on the other thread that the seller takes records on consignment so I guess temptation is there to bid up items by third parties. No idea if this is happening here as TZC and Briktf have both investigated and come to different conclusions. And if Randy is reading, won a 45 for 29p with free postage the other day. Not from this seller though.
  8. Thanks to all for kind words. Wanted to spend more quality time with the wife. Moderation clashes with prison visiting times.
  9. the guide has now been moved into the sites 'help' feature the help feature is available on every page via the top 'more' link thumbs up
  10. Got first three but no idea why album tracks are included when there's a wealth of unreleased material to go at. Is there 5 album cuts this time ?
  11. Old Bill Wells record shop. Did you notice the sex toys ? More than 7"s in that place.
  12. Let's not waylay guy's topic, lads. Take it to PMs or better still, forget it. ROD [Moderator].

  14. Is there a case for OAP, UB, ESA discounts ?

  16. You are. He didn't. Herding cats !
  17. Merged into one topic. ROD
  18. There's obviously nothing you can do re haggling for discounts etc. Part and parcel of buying and selling. When it comes to reserving 45s it's in the seller's hands as to how much time you allow for payment to be made. Stating terms in the ad would be the first step. If buyers do renege on deals then use the feedback feature and leave a negative. As a seller myself I've rarely had a problem other than odd week or so to pay but I accept that records ain't cheap so am prepared to grant some leeway to buyers but make sure we both know the terms. ROD
  19. Removed couple of comments not directly related to trade. Sales ads are for interaction between sellers and buyers and not general discussion. See sales guidelines. ROD
  20. The ECC 45 is a homage to contemporary funk groups of the time by referring to them by name and using snippets of their hits/style. Hence " Blow..." .
  21. Over the past week had a couple of complaints from buyers who have agreed to buy records on the basis that a Paypal payment will be made later in the day, only to find that sellers have in the meantime sold the records to a different buyer. Once such a deal has been reached it seems unreasonable to go back on what was agreed unless of course payment is not made as promised. Two very disappointed members on here and two sellers who no doubt have lost future custom. ROD [Moderator]
  22. Gareth, Can you leave prices in please. Do not remove when sold. See sales guidelines. Thanks ROD
  23. Not sure but isn't there a Pam Colquitt 45 on label ?
  24. Copy here.
  25. Can you not delete asking price once sold please. See sales guidelines. Some members use sales to get a rough idea of current going rate. If you would reinstate prices for Irwin and Anthony I'd be grateful. Thanks ROD [Moderator]
