  1. To put this record into context I would say in 77 at St Ives it filled the dance floor just as much as some of the sounds broken there at the same time like Servicemen - Are You Angry, Billy Arnell - Tough Girl, etc. There were a lot of records that seemed exclusive to St Ives at the time now forgotten, some good ( like Les Femme - Closer, Judy Hughes - Ocean of Emotion as examples), some indifferent, & others not so good (like Camp - Marching before elsewhere latched on ) I defy anyone to try & find a copy of Judy Hughes on Crusader by the way 🤑. Sam had it covered up as The Primettes
  2. MLIR is a pretty good side. Can't see either side as being as good as the current price expectations though.
  3. If tailor made for the Northern Scene (not doubting that btw), why was the New Moon version issued in the states a few months before the Right On release ?....Its an expensive way to gain credibility when a few acetates would have had the same result (like LJ Johnson 'Your magic 'etc around the same time). Surely someone must have thought there was a legitimate market for it in the states. As you say puzzling - No pun intended !
  4. RIP Hippo. Talking records with him was a regular occurrence at Yate. A fantastic DJ & a proper gent.
  5. Fantastic Record !...... As are most of his. Went to The Locarno a few times but can't remember a modern room. Mind you it was usually on the back of a nighter so don't remember much to be fair
  6. Loads of it going on, wish I still had mine from the 70s I'd be minted....I hear the ones with Tony Warot's handwriting fetch a premium 😂 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MALIBUS-REGGIE-GARNER-Gee-Baby-I-Love-You-Hot-Line-Rare-DJ-Acetate-Soul/264597100150?hash=item3d9b375676:g:WrUAAOSwiGReG8OS
  7. Was the only nighter I remember selling alcohol....Bottles of Pomagne FFS !!!!
  8. Makes perfect sense. I bought mine from JA in early 75. Thanks for that info - Should have held on to it.
  9. Had a week break in North Wales last month. Was saddened to see the pier has now been demolished....Had some crazy nighters there in the late 70s too
  10. Merve replied to Mak's topic in All About the SOUL
As a buyer I have to say I've yet to have a bad experience with any of the dealers I have bought from on Soul Source. All have delivered what they promised. I have only had one dealer not respond to a message (his prerogative as I offered him a trade he obviously didn't fancy, though a reply would have been nice). As for prices, you either buy it, make an offer, or don't buy it. To my shame I probably should leave feedback but didnt even know you could until a seller asked me to a few weeks ago & told me how to do it.
  11. Same here mate, I bought one in 75 as a boot & it turned out to be an original.....Unfortunately I sold mine some years later still thinking it was a boot. It begs the question were any of them sold 74/75/76 boots or were they all originals ?
  12. Such a shame. The hotel is an iconic building not just amongst soulies but also amongst United fans..You only need to look at the 50s & 60s photos in the cellar bar to see what a venue it must have been in its day.
  13. 🤣 You live on the same planet as me then
  14. Same crash happened to the Doo Wop & Rock & Roll markets so I'm told. 🤩
  15. Until we are mostly all dead. Then the market will crash & the last one standing will get The Del Larks for a fiver including P&P
  16. Possibly, but DILY has had far more exposure away from the rare soul scene than any other rare soul records & has been driven by media hype for 40 odd years. So then again it might not impact on other prices as much as we fear
  17. The only reason I remember the dates is I used to be a bit of an anorak....Im a lot better now 🤓
  18. Could have had this one for a fraction of the price 😏 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FRANK-WILSON-DO-I-LOVE-YOU-INDEED-I-DO-NORTHERN-SOUL-CLASSIC/184380895277?_trksid=p2485497.m4902.l9144
  19. Was huge at St Ives early 77 right through....Ginger or JV spin (?)
  20. Well it is quite scarce I suppose compared to some of the others that have sold for silly prices of late but its a lot of money to pay for a purely 'nostalgia' record....... While some prices have gone mad there seems to be a drop in price on under £100 sounds ?
  21. Others of hers are sadly neglected ....
  22. Yes I agree mate it was around then when someone pushed the silly button. The main problem with things at the moment is that there is far to much emphasis on known records that are price driven by demand rather than rarity. Demand & rarity has always been a fine balance & the scales have tipped the wrong way. The prime example is this weeks auction results where on ebay Alfie Davison fetches nearly £700 but The Rotations on Manships fetches under £400...I would guess there are 1000 Alfie's for every Rotations (?). Also, we have a lockdown situation where sounds arent getting dropped & replaced on a regular basis so rarer less known sounds are not getting pushed...........Just my opinion of course, but I'm wrong on a regular basis according to my wife.
  23. Surprised The Rotations didn't get £500 plus
