  1. Thought Gladys Knight & the Pips - You Broke Your Promise on Fury was before 1962, he arranged that.
  2. He definately got around over the years. Would this help? https://scafricanamerican.com/honorees/view/2005/10/ I'd like to know how he got linked up with the Stax guys in the late 60's and why he didnt do more. I suppose royalties from YMCA significantly changed his life and his bank balance.
  3. Theres one for sale on John Manship's web site at the moment

Nah, it looks just black and white. The blue and the silver issue, now that looks classy. Two issues went through eBay lasy year, were they both from the same seller?
  5. You need to change the file extension and remove the braketed number
  6. Dave, sorry I didn't for fill my promise as today was the first chance I had to look through my 7" boxes.
  7. There's a French seller called Crazy-Records on CD&LP, who i'm assuming is the same guy. He's poached a popsike picture of an original and added it to his listing. Naughty boy....
  8. Peter, There was a P-vine CD release a few yerars ago which had unreleased + all the tracks on the LP except Troubled Child and The Show Must Go On, but thats quite rare and expensive. If you look on Amazon, it says that the LP will be availiable for mp3 download on 4th September....... Stone me for saying mp3
  9. But it is the more common one.......
  10. There nothing novelty about the other side. I'll Show You is a fantastic record and IMO one of the best releases not only for William Bell, but for Stax too.
  11. Steve, John Ridley mentions it on his web site under Timmy Shaw, sadly no picture and its listed on Richard Domar's web site, but don't know if its still available https://www.domarrecords.co.uk/usaorig3.htm
  12. My ideal soul night would have "soul music"Â of course, free beer and nibbles with the dance floor full of nubile young women in cropped tops and hot pants, who are openly attracted to fat, balding blokes in glasses who talk about nothing but soul music.
  13. Yep there are. The Demo of Just Because Your Love Is Gone is also in both layouts too.
  14. Ian, If no one comes up with a scan you can borrow mine and scan it, if you want? My scanner is too small to copy the whole sleeve. Cheers, John
  15. Seems the numbering restarts when the address' change. I looked up both addresses on Google maps and the Shotwell Street address brings up a house and the other address seems to be scrubland in the next street along. The 101/102 make sense as they're each side of his first Ronn single and maybe he was more involved with Barbara West than I had originally supposed.
  16. Well this one popped up into my browser today and this version is a new one to me (suppose we can't know everything). Its b/w Toussaint McCall Nothing Takes The Place Of You. https://www.45cat.com/label/nu-sound It's a different mix/recording to the Barbara West named release on Ronn with an organ replacing the distinctive guitar and sounds earlier and I don't know if the McCall song is different to the Ronn release either. The address on the label is 713 Goldman Street, Monrow, LA and if you look on a map its smack bang in the middle between Shreveport and Jackson, so looks good to me. Was this Toussaint McCall's label, when did this come out and is there release 101 or any other later releases? Your help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, John
  17. Do you think the person who bought it, would lend me some money? I'd pay it back honest, gov............
  18. I'm convinced its the boot/reissue from a few years back. They all seemed to have dodgy colour and the label's not stuck on true in the dink. Heres a picture from popsike. https://www.popsike.c...0513748979.html
  19. I don't remember it being marketed as contemporary a release at the time (1985). The Japan Victor release also came out in 1982 which was three years before the US pressing on Blues R&B and out of the 10 tracks only three were contemporary although they may have been recorded earlier. I also got "Soul Man Live In Japan" on Rooster Blues at the same time, which too was a US/Canadian release of a Japanese release of a couple years earlier. Stone him, Stone him, Stone him........ Some of my favourite LP's not already mentioned are and IMO not one dodgy track on any. Swamp Dogg - Total Destruction of Your mind - Canyon Don Covay - Super Dude I - Mercury Luther Ingram - Do You Love Somebody - KoKo Ann Peebles - I Cant Stand The Rain - Hi Paul Kelly - Don't Burn Me - WB Modulations - It's Rough Out Here - Buddah Jimmy Hughes - Something Special - Volt Mavis Staples - Only For The Lonely - Volt Darrel Banks - Here To Stay - Volt Eddie hinton - Very Extremely Dangerous - Capricorn Otis Clay - Trying To Live My Life Without You - Hi Don Bryant - Precious Soul - Hi (Thie best set of covers I've ever heard) Impressions - Young mods Forgotten Story - Curtom Impressions - This is My Country - Curtom Leroy Hutson - Love Oh Love - Curtom Natural Four - Heaven Right Here On Earth - Curtom Natural Four - Natural Four - Curtom O'Jays - Ship Ahoy - PIR The list goes on........
  20. Which one: JJ Barnes/Steve Mancha, Eddie Floyd, Johnnie Taylor or all three? I think they're all great.
  21. Just listened and really enjoyed both hours, what a great eclectic mix of styles and tempos.
  22. I would agree with you on that, but personally I don't think it should be included as it's a retrospective compilation of recordings rather than a released LP (in the same as Otis Clay's The Only Way Is Up). I recently pulled some LP's from storage to record before going on holiday and found this one to be cracked, I was so gutted.
  23. Zane normally does the honours and posts the download on EMS.
  24. Agreed on these. I also thought the Clarence Carter EP was something special too.
