I posted this one EMS last month During the snow I caught a consumer expert discussing distance selling and how the snow affected late or lost postal items and she said that the buyer is not liable for any loss until they have accepted it. The following information can be found on the office of fair trading web site. Can I charge the consumer the cost of insuring items that I send out? 3.20 No. These items belong to you until they have been accepted by your consumer. So you cannot charge your consumers for carrying risks that you should bear. See paragraph 3.36 for more information. Can a consumer cancel an order before they receive the goods or where goods are lost in transit? 3.35 Yes. Where the DSRs give consumers rights to cancel, this right is unconditional. If consumers cancel before they have received the goods you must refund the total price of the goods, including any delivery charges. Consumers who have cancelled under the DSRs may refuse to accept delivery of the goods. Refusal in such a situation cannot be treated as a breach of contract. 3.36 Where goods are lost in transit from you to the consumer you will need to either send new goods or offer the consumer a full refund, including delivery charges. See paragraph 3.20 for more information. So from what this information tells me; is that until the item is in the buyers hands the item is still the sellers property and they have to replace or cover the full costs if the buyer doesnt recieve it. https://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/general/oft698.pdf
  2. Jean Plum - Look At The Boy/Back To You - HI, easier to get on UK London, very tough on Hi issue, Gareth do you fancy selling me yours? Jean Plum - Pour On The Loving/ You Just Ask Me - HI, tougher than you think, as i've seem more Here I Go Again issues Ceasar Frazier - Child Of The Wind/Till Another Day - Westbound, normally a single sided Demo of Child Of The Wind and didn't realise this was hard to get on issue until Ady asked for a scan of Till Another Day for one of the Westbound CD's Bobby McClure - I Ain't Gonna Turn You Loose / Hard Luck - Hi, never seen an issue of this, but have always assumed they're in someone's collection. Charlene and the Soul Serenaders - Love Changes/Can You Win - Volt. Really hard on a Volt issue, virtually impossible on Paradox Bill Brandon - Rainbow Road/You've Got That Something Wonderful - Tower, someone mentioned they had an issue in a thread about 2 years ago
  3. I too never thought of any of the differences between the Mono and Stereo releases. Checked mine today and its Mono with the same details mentioned before. Mine also has a deletion hole in the bottom right of the sleeve, but sadly no metal circle. I wonder what price differece the cutouts with and without the metal circle is.....
  4. I ain't expensive, but does anyone have one they dont want? Min Ex+ Cheers John
  5. There's not much prestige in just playing good quality soul music these days....
  6. Now talk of CD's you'll get a reputation..... I think the other tracks can be similar, but there lots of funky instrumental workouts and has that "Live Band" feel that you have with the Kings Go Forth and Sharon Jones releases. I like their version of Barry Whites - I'm Gonna Love You and I've Got Mine reminds me a bit of the Brand New Heavy's
  7. I think the Paradox release has always been in-demand by deep collectors even though, Love changes is available on the cheaper Volt W/D. I also think its the more recent exposure of Can You Win, that has pushed prices up even further.
  8. Love Changes is a cracking tune as well
  9. The Volt issue is tough, but the Paradox release is really hard. Just out of interest what one are you after?
  10. There have been various threads on great LP's or LP only tracks which always unearth great finds and has also highlighted tracks on LP's that I already own that I've missed. There's a top 1,000 LP's to listen to before you die thread on EMS, but that seems to have died a bit. Why don't you start up a new thread, I'm sure it will be very interesting and again pop up some crackers? Here is a top 100 LP article written by John Lias and came out in Voices #14 in 1990 John Lias Top 100 LP's - Voices 14 (1990).pdf
  11. I hope one never comes out. Personally the singles guides have done nothing for the general buyer and have just help line dealers pockets. Whether you like popsike and collectors frenzy or not it does give an indication of what it sold for in an open market and knowlegable people on here are always willing to help people out on here. The soul music buying community seemed to survive for quite a few years before them.
  12. I'm in dispute with a US seller on ebay. I paid for a record on 26th November and still havent recieved it, even though I've been told that it was sent express mail. The seller said in his correspondence that he's not in the business of ripping people off. It's not that I don't believe him, but I've recieved 5 things (3 from ebay and one direct from a dealer) from the States bought after the record was sent, which raised my concern. So to me it looks like its lost in the post and i'd like a refund. The biggest shame of it all is that it was a record i've been looking for for a few years and i was so pleased to win it and would rather have the record rather than the cash.
  13. I've been waiting for a package from the States since the end of November. Actually, given up hope of recieving it.
  14. I always thought the re-issue of Alfreda Brockington had a different and smaller font, but I could be wrong.

Too true. I started doing it with Curtom, Invictus and yellow Stax. Ended up with tunes I didn't like and Lena Zavaroni records which is not really something to brag about.
  16. Gnarls Barkley was the name of the collaberation of Brian Burton and Cee Lo Green (on vocals)

This is a quote from here: https://www.bsnpubs.com/columbia/okeh/okeh.html In June, 1962, Dave Kapralik, the head of the A&R department at Columbia, hired veteran Chicago producer Carl Davis as an A&R producer for the Columbia label and in April, 1963, made him the A&R director for OKeh. Davis immediately hired Curtis Mayfield as an Associate Producer; Mayfield was at that time a singer/songwriter with the Impressions and a much-respected figure in the Chicago music scene. Davis and Mayfield were able to rejuvenate the label and within a year OKeh became a major soul label. Almost all of the hits on OKeh were written by Curtis Mayfield and produced by Carl Davis in Chicago. The sound that Davis and Mayfield created is often called "Chicago Soul". The music featured brass instruments and highly melodic vocals, and was the foundation for the later Chicago rock sound of groups like the Buckinghams, Mob, Mauds, and the Chicago Transit Authority [Chicago], who picked up on the brass, especially. The "Chicago Soul" records did not have the hard rock and roll beat that characterized the Motown and Stax soul records of the time, but reflected an easier, more relaxed, mood. Carl Davis had huge hits with Major Lance, and moderate chart hits with Ted Taylor, Walter Jackson, Billy Butler and the Enchanters and the Artistics.

For me, my starting point was when Carl Davis joined Okeh around 62/63. For me its collecting issues rather than WD's.
  19. I like all his 4 Decca singles and I prefer this to the Josie re-working although thats a great dancer. The flip "There's Only One Way" I think is a nice swayer
  20. I'd like to hopefully get one in before the 100 Johnny Truitt - I'm Thru With You/Baby, I Need You - Abet A great double sider that I can never get tired of...

  22. I've been re-reading the John Edwards article in Voices by Jan Barker. In the discography it mentions three tracks recorded at Stax by the group the Enticers which included John Edwards and was wondering if any of these tracks seen the light of day since the article was written?

The Canadian releases i've seen are black with silver text. Willam Bell's Soul Of A Bell LP was released on a yellow label with the standard Atlantic distributed stax design
