Most expensive "common" records
Agree on the issue copy kev...i had one and gave it to a mate as i bought the gunsmoke release, far far harder than the demo ,you've hit the nail on the head that records become 'keepers' mate...some or most have emotional attatchment too..i'm as guilty as anyone else..but i reckon some of these emotions or whatever fuel this 'i gotta have it' thing...the demo's of J James 'love affair' i once saw at a dealers (and there'll have been many more that had them)stacked 2-3 feet high at £5 each...(.not a issue amongst 'em).....its when i see comments against records like these 'now rare blah blah'....nar then wonder if i can get that issue back All the best Dave

Most expensive "common" records
One I use as a yardstick ...Jesse James 'love affair '.....great record but £50...never...not for the amount that are about. ..I know £50 ain't a lot to some but prices for records like this prop others up ...also cos someone has paid £50 or thereabouts for a record they actually DON'T want to see it lower!!that props prices up falsely Imo Dave L

Bettye LaVette a month ago
Roburt...she quoted she was fed up of NS fans shouting out for her to sing 'make me yours'!!!...so we can't blame her...seen her a few times i think she's great live act...i've also heard NS fans bemoan her singing the slower stuff! Dave L

JOHN POWNEY RIP - Funeral details
I'll have look if we have any from the times we had at the Devonshire in Skipton but don't hold your breath as Ive moved house etc...but once seen you never forgot him...countless folks would have never had guessed just how good and knowlegable he was to look at...and i mean that with the utmost respect he was'nt in anyway stereo typical of the soul scene...when he dj'd for us I'm sure one or two punters that did'nt know him thought he was a local from out the otherside of the pub that had wondered behind the decks...till they heard what he was playing... JOHN POWNEY RIP - Funeral details
Really sad news this and you've described John just how I/we remember him....still bring him up in conversation regarding his Castle lists and the records he had and the prices!..also had the pleasure of him dj-ing for us when my brother,Stuart Marshall, and myself ran the Devonshire Arms soul nights in Skipton in the esrly to mid 90's...he'd bring a posse of geordies with him or probably more likely they brought him!!..Davey and Elaine Mason ,Tomma,Gazza White,Tim Carr and more....typical John though when we had any tune we thought rare/big he'd pull one out of his box in a rarer format..eg:playing his Channel 3 on a issue copy...and many others...never being a smart ass neither ...the place was always rammed when John was in town...he never wanted a penny neither..couldn't push money into his hand ..what a genuine North East guy he was..r.i.p John Dave Longbottom

Crossover Top 100
I'd say this is a classic example of different opinions on 'crossover'..i'd say this is 70's soul Carstairs 'hurts me girl'...as its more 'polished' ..imo..same with Bettye Swann 'kiss my love...'two examples of crossover that we was listening to (before the term was coined ) that was accepted as Northern Soul are ..James Fountain '7 day lover' & Ann Sexton 'been gone too long'...classic examples to me .....how about Justice Dept..'Come Back(to these empty arms)Fairplay Rec....one of my favourites if not already mentioned...along with George Perkins 'I'm so glad your'e mine'...George Jackson 'I found what i wanted'....there's thousands out there.. The Record Man Documentary Henry Stone's Story
A few years ago whilst in philadelphia and visiting Valley Shiveley's store Val packed my records up and gave me some fantastic dvds . A documentary/interview with Henry Stone being one of them in some kind of cinema with a small audience scattered around the seating asking questions etc...can't remember just how good it is really I'll have to re-visit it.Also got good dvds of the dells being interviewed. ..gonna have to watch this one though I hope he'd mention Charles Johnson but I aint holding my breath..
