  7. I'm always interested to read threads about where records were played for the first time and who played em first etc, so could anyone with 'the knowledge' help me out? Ive recently purchased a record from Mike Bolderson on Capitol by the Enjoyables- Push a little harder, which the more I play it the more I really like it, up until Mike put his last sale list out I'm am sure I'd never heard it before which suggests that it was played big time between 76 and 86. or was it? Ive been to a few venues since 1988 and I'd never heard it, must have been in the bog. any help with how this piece of top notch northern missed my ears would be appreciated, I have this vison of it coming out of the Casino speakers. https://www.soulclub.org/stream/The_Enjoyab...ttle_Harder.ram

  18. not sure If Ive told this one before... Not a USA hit, but a UK hit. During the 70's I got to know Anderson quite well, being 30 miles away we were in his portland street office every week. When he moved to that bloody village, the house and the big barn we went down to see him in the 90's asked if we could have a hunt, which to our amazement he agreed, agaiin a few rules from JA and away we went. I found a thing on Diamond by Mark Thatcher a blue eyed 100mph thing along with a few other bits, played it to Gary Spencer and he asked if there were any left..."yeah there was a wad of about 20"..he replied "get over there this week and buy the lot Paul" 10 days later I'm back in there straight to the 'D's' ....all gone!! 20 mins later I moved some records off the floor to turn the record player plug on and two Hard Road to Hoe's fell off the bottom and one was on the top of the another pile. Went into Johns office to barter with the miserable so and so and he opens up his draw, and as always he had some 'specials' in those green covers. "Fancy one of these?, big record they tell me, £200 to you" bugger me I found out where those Mark Thatchers went.. "Nah its ok John I brought one off you 2 weeks ago for £10. I also remember the time in the mid 90's at JA's, John had warned me someone else was looking...goes into the wharehouse and theres this geezer at the back.. "ok mate" "yeah" "found out" "few bits" "what you looking for?" "northern and motown" "where you from?" "Kettering Northants" "do you know Glen Bellamy?" "I am Glen Bellamy!!!!"

  22. I'd love to read Jon Andersons greatest three hits.. great thread guys so much better than reading about "you dished my venue on etc etc"
  23. Not on the league of the above gentelmen nevertheless I thought I'd share my story. One of my life time ambitions was to to visit one of these shops in the USA you'd heard stories about and just get my fingernails sore..The buzz of not knowing what the next record will be keeps ya going when your having a bad day. My only trip to the USA was a holiday to St petes beach so off I jogged along to Banana records, expecting a small shop I came across this large wharehous full of 7" soul vinyl, I nearly came in my pants...the top man told me a few rules and away I went shoping basket in hand. It dawned on me after 30mins that I needed a plan as I was all over the place, it was all in artist order so I decided to do The Major Lance, The Hyperions, The Hestitations, The Brooks Bros etc etc a simple task of remembering records was difficult due to the addrelain rush .. 1 found umm ummm ummm that was about it. just kept walking round looking at batchs of 200 records within tens of 1000's of the bleeders, found a few bits nothing rare, but the buzz of finding what I did was great. I then looked at my watch...fookin hell I'd been in there for 7 HOURS!!! I told my mrs Id be gone 2hrsMax.. Cashed in when he advised me that "his store had been hit so many times by the english its a wonder anything is left" cheer mate...lol "would you like to come back tomorrow and have a look through our unopend boxes we have in the basement, noones been through them for years" cya tomorrow mate... Got back to the Hotel Old Bill with the wife, she thinks Ive been murderd etc..."how did you get on" " 80 odd, going back tomorrow for another day" I spent 9 hrs oepning box after box after boxm my finger nails were bleeding and only found one copy of Shirley Ellis on Candadia CBS... you wanna know something I will never sell it. it was a glorius two days of record hunting though the rewards rare wise were nowt special the satisfaction of knowing "I'd done it" made up for it.
