Just What Is Crossover
Crossover ? Always thought it was the late 60s early 70s that didn't really fit into typical Northern or 70s/disco. As somebody mentioned it earlier, Player Play on is a perfect example...... TO ME ! However times change & IMO crossover has taken on a new meaning depending on who is DJing at the time. These days crossover often stands for extremely dreary ballad type music that gets played while people stand around drinking, talking to friends & getting restless while waiting for some Northern to be played so they can have a dance & shouldn't be heard unless sitting in a comfy armchair in your front room with a nice mug of hot chocolate

Dale Winton Plays Rare Northern Soul
Now that is a surprise John Incidently I've a mate (not a soulie) who used to phone me up & tell me to turn on Radio 2 because paul o'grady was about to play some northern soul . Curiosity of course got the better of me & i sat through Frankie Valli You're ready now, Heaven must have sent you, Newbeats bread & butter & similar & then bizarely one week played Andantes Like a nightmare......& mostly it was! Week or so later he played The Sweetest Feeling by Edwin Starr, I have to say I was shocked, not only that I hadn't realised Edwin had recorded the record but that he did it in a Jackie Wilson style I've since given up car crash radio & now count the dots in the pattern on my wallpaper on a sunday afternoon instead

Soulful Gems Tucked Away?
But you did say LP ? (or am i losing the plot here?) Anyway if your sources are reliable It's likely that they're correct ..mine was just an (un)educated guess

Soulful Gems Tucked Away?
Wouldn't that be on something like Inferno/Destiny/Black Magic ? Pretty sure that there was an elongated version of Tainted Love in the late 70s I guess it would be. I think some clever sod just played around in the studio. As good as they were in their day I don't think I'd really want to heat an extended version of either

Michigan Move
Yes think you're right Chalky & there's multiple cuts but they couldn't get the intro right, i think Guy got the intro cut off whengetting his "acetate" cut... Think George MacGregor was the drummer on CODs She's Fire............. extraordinary indeed !

Since When Has Celeste Hardy Been
Since when has rarity made any difference John? Look at the amount of Cashmeres there are about & the stupid price that fetches .......... or just look at manships auction every week

Soulful Gems Tucked Away?
But it's not Lorraine Chandler is it? Thought I remember talk that it's just another scam ?

Manship Auction Result?
Lets face it Martyn I think most people are amazed at the prices things go for on the manship auction even though this was a different release to the one that you were talking about. Realistic ? All I can say is I'm glad I lost my particular bidding recently although I do understand how you can "just keep going" & I guess that that is the reason for an auction. To obtain optimum price I've since picked up the item I was bidding on for a much more competitive price. All depends how badly you want it I guess Hope you're keeping well mate All Best Dave

Manships Finishing Prices
Nev, It wasn't from the new site but the last auction on the old one !......... I was after the Gloria Hill Be somebody but I won't hold my breath I've spoken to 3 people I know that own it but nobody wants to sell, it's a great record very poorly produced but more a nostalgia piece for me but if anyones got one

Manships Finishing Prices
I wasn't implying anything in particular, more a case of I thought it was an online auction only as the website mentions nothing about telephone bidders, though in the "real world" of course that would be the normal procedure. I had the leading bid at 6pm & thought that I should have won the item because prior to that there was 1 minute remaining on the auction site & no fresh bids were present, to me at least. It wasn't Luther Ingram that I was bidding for & apologies Peter for the fact that somehow you have been dragged into my fairly innocent post. Thanks Nev for posting & putting into words much of what I was thinking. This was my very first auction anywhere & probably my last I think I prefer set sales

Manships Finishing Prices
Nothing to do with the new lay out ( which I don't like compared to the old one) but I always thought this was an online auction, I had a highest bid last week with a minute to go & it sat there for at least 2 minutes & then it announced that I was bidding against a telephone bidder ?

Just Nearly Made An Almighty Cock-up
So Pete, knowing what a fair & honest dealer that you are what happened to the 2nd buyer who had presumably paid a fiver for the record ?
-
New Style Manship Site
Admittedly alot of people no doubt use the soundclips purely for reference & perhaps for this a subscription is understandable but what about those that buy on a regular basis (& I'm not saying that i do) & are now going to be charged £60 a year (if it is, as mentioned a fiver a month) for any "extras". Perhaps I'm being naive or stupid in expecting something extra on the site than just a straight business arrangement? Lets hope Mike doesn't have the same idea for Soul Source

Maurice Jackson - True Love Is You
