  1. Billy - he's Mr Reliable and great company (daft as a brush) - always gets me home safely. Mark C
  2. Kev Laws (Norwich) won the dance comp at Peterborough Fleet once many moons ago. No acrobatics, just decent footwork! Regards Mark C
  3. imho Out on the Floor is still a fantastic record, we should encourage Kyna Mavies, at least he/she has joined up and not just stuck to facebook like countless others!! Mark C
  4. Indeed, great man and fantastic DJ. A Yate reunion won't be the same without him but am sure it will be a great success. Mark C
  5. Very much doubt Clarkie will turn up. I've spoken to him once or twice as he lives near me and he has given up DJing as far as I know..
  6. Four Tops - Baby, I need your Loving - no need to say why..
  7. Will we get to see Gyles Brandreth in his baggies?
  8. Just had to reply to that title...Northern Soul hit little ol' Norwich back in the late 60's with the great Sean Burke our ambassador and a regular at the Wheel etc. Still going strong under my Backstreet Soul Club banner - the evergreen Tony Warot was at our December event (not to DJ) and said it was the best soul night he had been to in nearly 10 Years!! Keep A Troshin' Mark C
  9. If they played tracks like Your love is fading in my local shopping mall I'd be in and out of every shop all day. The thing is they could and should be played alongside each other........... Mark C
  10. You mean Vinyl 4 Ever, Billy. You've kept us amused us continuously over the last few years with slogans such as "BiG un from Wigan", "Soul crusader from the East" "Your soul club needs you" (uncle sam style) "Don't pity me baby" and the best one was "don't it make ya feel funky" except the printer accidentally put funny instead of funky. (Un)fortunately you read it before leaving Norwich for the Mars Bar that night!! Keep up the good work............
  11. Does anyone have confirmation of the dates for the 2013 "Gonna be a big thing" Valencia soul weekender? Thanks Mark C
  12. So where does Ian Levine fit in? Lots of new discoveries found by him so he must play a part (here we go again...)
  13. Oh yes, great patches. Had several of the ones shown but sadly they got lost over the years.. Always chuckle about the Norfolk Soul one. St. Ives was always frequented by lots of people from Nofolk but unless they changed the boundaries has always been in Cambs!! Mark C
  14. Hi - and apologies if this apppeal has been placed in the wrong forum (if so please move) It's my Birthday Bash on Friday August 3rd and I'm looking for any Soul Promoters/Dealers etc out there that could help with the odd raffle prize - CDs, memorabilia or even the odd venue/weekender ticket. All proceeds from the draw and funds raised on the night are going to THE BIG C, a local Cancer Charity in Norwich/Norfolk (reg. #281730) We have lost some wonderful soul people to this disease in recent years and a very good friend of mine currently has a daughter undergoing chemotherapy and she herself has a young family. Any kind offers will be most appreciated. I can be contacted on 07981 029060 Regards, Mark Chamberlin
  15. Hi Peg, Would just like to say that here at "Backstreet" in Norwich we have a policy of original vinyl only - some of the guys have been collecting for 40+ plus years and would never play a bootleg (and probably don't own one!) To be honest most of our crowd probably don't give a monkeys but to those that DJ and myself it is a no brainer...OVO Mark C ps...I see you now have a son/daughter at the UEA so pay us a visit if your next trip coincides...
  16. My dad at my 21st many years ago - well he was on Opportunity Knocks twice!! Mark C
  17. Hi Steve - Dion Dublin actually finished his playing career at my beloved Norwich City - think that fact makes him more famous lol
  18. I like the idea suggested a few posts back - an "Inbetweeners" room where everything gets played. The words "Holdall W*nker" don't quite have the same ring to them though... Mark C ps not sure if the anonymous message on facebook calling me a w*nker has anything to do with this? Some people are getting a bit touchy in their old age - and yes I always take a holdall with me!!
  19. Not on the dancefloor but I went to the Rocket once and Dale Winton had paid a visit. He was gone by the time we arrived but some photos came up the day after showing him on the stage (collects records I believe) Wes Brown apparently goes to the Wheel or at least he did until his transfer... Mark C
  20. I have a live recording from Peterborough "The Fleet" on a tape. Chris Plant was the DJ (what happened to him?) and he played Billy Floyd along with Freddie Williams and some other "60s Newies" from that time. I think it was 1983 but I'll dig it out and confirm the date. Mark C
  21. Just waiting for Billy to pick me up and Norwich go 2 - 1 up - life don't get much better!! Mark C
  22. All being well I'll be there with Billy. A long, long journey but worth every minute to sample the Burnley sound.... Mark C
  23. Somebody re-open it -, NOW! Mark C
  24. Superlatives played 3+ times at last Blackpool - danced to it once only though! Mark C
