  1. I would like to vent my feelings again, using the original post in an unintended way by saying that because we all agree that their are tens of thousands of upbeat tracks out there. And most of them would be great to hear on a night out, if only to break the endless cycle of tracks that DJ's regularly carry. Well for me, this scenario is the perfect time to say once more that I really don't care if what's played out is on vinyl. It would just be fantastic if you could actually request something and get it played......I wouldn't sniff at all if a digital version blasted out across the floor. Their are just so many titles that could radically change the feel of nights out. Get us out of the deep rut we find ourselves in these last years. I know this won't be a popular thought with most DJ's, but even I have a folder with nearly 7000 superb tracks, of which 90% will never get played at a venue. But it sure would be great to head up to the decks with a track in mind, knowing that you are going to hear it. Like I said, I think it would vastly improve our stale scene.
  2. Can't satisfaction with a DJ still be judged by how the dancefloor reacts to his tracks? I might be missing something, but it seems to me that most punters pay for a night out to have a great time, not caring so much about original vinyl at all. I go to nights where it's rare that more than 6 people are dancing, right up until a killer beat tingles the senses of the larger crowd and bang, it's like old times again, and the floor heaves. To me a good DJ is one who likes to see the floor this way, so keeps with the feel of tracks that do indeed fill the floor. It makes me feel like the door tax is worth however much if most of the night is a dancers night. Original vinyl is never one of my concerns.
  3. New stories for me to hear from the previous posters. Can anyone explain to me why I have it in my head that the entrance to M's was off the left side of the main room balcony.....almost no lighting on the walk to the door, then seemingly darker still when you got inside the place. I loved my regular spot on that balcony......looking directly at the stage and down on the dancefloor. And the balcony truly did bounce at regular times along with the dancing.
  4. Now you've got me. Okay I understand it would not have looked so plush in the 70/80's. Is this one just 5/10 minutes walk from where the Casino was?
  5. That's a great, first hand tale to be able to tell Happy Feet......I think 99% of us genuine Casino attenders would be totally gobsmacked by it. It just goes to show that it wasn't all glory for the place like the passed down history has us believing. I have to say that I always found M's to be a totally different experience to the main room. I wouldn't go as far as to say unfriendly, but it sure had a vibe that to the newcomer was intimidating at least. Ah, mate.....I'd give a world of possesions, whatever, to be able to turn the clock back and revisit. Feel it once again, but there you go......memories at least.
  6. This post interests me Happy Feet......I do believe that you are saying only 3 people turned up to an oldies night in M's, and consequently they stopped the nighter at 12-15am....this is astounding news really, I knew there were a few 'off' nights in the history of our club, but I never heard tell of this one before. And it was seemingly in the Casino's strong period of attendance.
  7. Thanks Kenb.....then it's just the way we are wrong sometimes. Looking at it from this veiw point must be my un-recognition problem.
  8. This one is doing my head in a bit. I never got to the Casino until the mid 70's, and I assume this picture is from earlier days (I can't date it by cars). The car park to the side of the place as shown here, just doesn't ring any memory bells. I seem to recall pulling my old Humber into a very much bigger park, even one that might have run behind our club. And the whole scene opposite ain't coming through to me either.......Is it just me?
  9. I bet that's the one Chatty......I tried numerous times to find it on google world, where you effectively walk around the streets seeing everything. But none of it looked familiar anymore. Any of the pubs now look nothing like the one. So thanks mate, I can talk the talk with the few friends remaining, and who also frequented the place to do them things. It was a pub to really set us up for the bash of a night that was the Casino.
  10. Most of my memories are solid, but one I find myself trying to figure out is the name of the pub all of our crowd used to hit before opening time. We basically got to Wigan around 9/10 pm and hit this pub to drop gear so we didn't feel the dreaded drug squad hand on a shoulder while standing in the queue, then being searched and ending up at the local nick. Although it had a good crowd of soulies, it was certainly an allcomers pub as well. Not one where you'd hear Northern on the jukebox as such. A big double fronted pub as far as I can remember, that if you exited the Casino, turned to the right, with the car park on your right, then stuck your left arm out at a 45 degree angle, sort of walked for 5/10 minutes in that direction, that's about where it was. A small insignificant matter for most people on soul source I know, but the memories of those nights are all that's left now. Many of the friends who were together with me are long buried
  11. What a larf hey......i mean, no matter how good the gear was......this one, well.... It's first time hearing it though, it might grow on me???
  12. In my memory The Sherrys was a big nighter sound, very popular. In fact it's difficult to believe that it doesn't go down well these days.
  13. Didn't know the man, but just read his profile and feel like I inhabited the same world as he did through the 70's/80's and on. Yea, many of my true and real friends passed in tragic and appalling ways, so it reminds me of those I miss also. You only live once, so live it right......and go easy on those that choose to live it different to the normals.
  14. Without a doubt there was no one to touch Millie Jackson live in the 80's. Unbelievable doesn't come close enough.
  15. You surprise me Kenb. In that you might believe, even slightly, that this set of pictures with their dress code could have been from an allnighter. Even at opening time, I never saw the likes of it. I know that's no guarantee, but surely they are staged.....or from mid-week. Now that you have made your comment I am more and more interested to learn more. Maybe my memories are shot to pieces.
