About The Event

The COVID-19 measures have left the Rare Soul scene littered with cancelled events and the faithful following home alone at the weekends; so the Bury Town Hall team have decided to launch a ‘virtual’ all-nighter. The show will be broadcast over internet radio every Saturday while we’re under lockdown from 20:00 until the early hours of Sunday morning.

The format will be just like a real event with a selection of DJs from previous and upcoming all-nighters at Bury Town Hall selecting their spots, carefully in order, from actual records they own to keep it real.

You can join us at https://www.radioking.com/radio/soulallniter

...and we also hope to be posting links for use with iTunes, Windows Media Player, Winamp, Real Player & Quick Time in the near future.
We hope you enjoy the show and it goes some way to filling the void and lifting your spirits

We could get Nigel to do it 🤔

lol.. Wouldn't THAT be a review !! The only one ever to slate every record played and the people playing them whilst crying into his glass of vino and bemoaning the fact he is so misunderstood..

I think he would be perfect !!

Hi Mr Fingers,

Many thanks for your kind write-up.  Regrettably nerves do get the better of me and I've never really been that comfortable DJ'ing.  Definitely no luring going on.  A few of the guys and gals who know me best at The Ukrainian Club in Ashton-Under-Lyne will know that I'm still nervy before I go on.  At least on this occasion I was able have a few beers to lessen the stress knowing that the net result wouldn't lead to me playing an unintended b-side, playing the slipmat, or accidentally flicking the switch to 33rpm.

Many thanks to Simon and the Bury team for asking me to contribute...I felt the pressure but it was an honour nonetheless.

See you (virtually) next week.

Hi Chris

My write-ups, although intended to give an overview of the evening, are done in a tongue-in-cheek manner.. and I attempt to make light of the proceedings wherever possible. I had no idea what your collection contains (I have a fair idea now though, lol) and genuinely felt your dread - having always experienced that same dread whenever my turn to DJ.. and I will always suffer those initial nerves until my dying day.. You should see how much my hands shake EVERY TIME I try to cue up the first couple of discs and before the nerves begin to settle.. Knowing what sort of calibre of tunes you would likely face I felt that most would perhaps feel they might struggle to cope on a level playing field..  I admit to already having formed a preconceived expectation that you perhaps would not have the calibre of rarities played before you on the night, and so was taken aback somewhat when your selections soon reminded me that one should never pre-judge.. although I wasn't actually making judgement - more, my idea of what to expect from your set and bearing in mind the fact I had never heard you play before.. I was genuinely pleased to hear the calibre of 45's you selected - in some ways I suppose, more pleased for you, when it became obvious from your choices that you were more than capable of holding your own against some of the finest collections on display that night.. and DJ's that go by the title of 'Sir..' Always one to champion the underdog, me.. So I wasn't trying to portray you as some sort of charlatan in any way, and apologise profusely if that is how it came across - my tongue in cheek attempt at humour was all.. and the words I chose are ones I felt appropriate to my take on the evening in my effort to try and make my reviews at least a little entertaining

I made similar comments concerning Les, but having heard him play enough sets I didnt have any reservations as to his capabilities of matching the previous sets on the night

Playing the wrong side ?? Putting the needle on the slip mat.. forgetting to readjust settings.. I'm certain we have all suffered those embarrassments at some point.. Personally, I know I will ALWAYS manage to feck up something or other.. it wouldn't be me if I didn't !! lol

Just to reiterate Chris.. Great set mate

Psssst Johnny, Chris gets all that. He's just kindly saying thanks for your comments, and adding a bit of an explanation of how he 'rolls' (Which is great)

Just thought I'd quickly get you to 'rest easy' again mate.......I now believe you when you said that you had felt bad since 199? (Up until just last week) when you gave me that 'fateful' lift to the Griffin All-nighter in Leeds ref talking all the way there and all the way back (We think back anyway) When in actual fact, I hadn't noticed a thing wrong with said company! :D

Carry on writing please Sir!

Len

Don't ever let them nerves stop you mate.  Anxiety is simply a human condition that some of us suffer from worse than others.  People can't let it get the better of them!

Some of you may remember this......Apparently anxiety stems from when at any time we could have been eaten by a Dinosaur, so we had to be alert in case one turned up for their dinner - That '6th sense' / anxious feeling is still in us, and is more prolific in some than others. That's how I manage to leave the house anyway

Loads of DJs suffer with butterflies - The moment I stop getting them will be the moment I stop DJing, as that happening means I have stopped caring. Which will show.

The Radio show All-nighter butterflies are a different breed of butterflies, because you have already done your set and there's nothing you can do about it now! You then have to watch yourself DJ, and even listen to your own voice which can be excruciating!

If you need me Sat night, I'll be standing in the corner

All the best,

Len
