About The Event

Saturday September 24th 2022 we celebrate the life of our great friend Paul Harris, known to many on here as an avid collector of Rare Soul 45s. If you're reading this you have more than likely bought records from Paul, he used to carry an amazing sales box to venues around the UK. Paul also promoted some quality events under " The Bradford Rare and underplayed soul nights" Some great memories from his various events around Bradford, particularly Morley Carr and Mill Lane.

We have gathered together 18 rare soul DJs to entertain you, who have DJ'd for Paul over the years for the all day event at Rochdale Ukrainian Club Mere Street OL11 1HJ  which runs 3pm until midnight. Admission is a very reasonable £5 which when you look at the line up we think it's a snip!! The Club has it's own free car park and there is also on street parking surrounding the club

All proceeds will be donated to The Rochdale Branch of RSPCA  a very worthy cause!! If you knew Paul from various niters, weekenders and soul nights, please come and join us in what is sure to be a memorable event!!

Thought I'd already done this, however...

Great Day/Night from everybody involved-honoured to do my little part.

Great to catch up with so many that made Paul's Bradford nights so memorable. it's times like this that make you remember just why this thing got into us in the first place.

Loved It !!

Just goes to show the kind of people drawn to Paul( No derogatory comments please !!🤣 ).........Because I can't help thinking that last night had all the ingredients that can be in short supply at some events nowadays ....................Non stop laughing and banter from start to finish..........and people playing their records with a lot of passion and effort !!!!!!! I'm extremely graetful to have been involved......thankyou xx............Bollocks to the Hokey Cokey...................that's what it's all about !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Arrived later than first planned with Sid and Bernadette Jones, Tony Livesey and Billy Mailey in tow. The back seat drivers couldn't agree on directions even down to left or right at a three lane junction.  We got there though.  As was to be expected the music was varied and for the most part from the back of peoples boxes.  The floor was kept busy most of the night with records worth from £25 to £X,000. Some hours were split with the DJ doing 30 minutes each and other doing the hard task of alternating and still keeping a set flowing musically. It was a pleasure double decking with Sid and the Virtue acetate he played was mega and new to almost everyone. (Paul would have liked that).  It was a laugh too, collectively managing to discuss records with people and trying to guess what they were trying to remember from clues like "You know the one I mean its on a blue lable" or "Its on the flip to that one Soul Sam used to play". The only thing missing was Paul's razor sharp whit and dry humour. It was an honour to play a few and certainly a first for me to be paid in bath bombs.

Response from the promoter:

I got asked for the one that has 5,4,3 2,1 ??

After much head scratching deciphered at as Connie Austin "she made a mistake "

Obvious really lol

Well that went waaay beyond expectations, what a great venue for The Paul Harris memorial alldayer!!

We arrived just after 4pm and the place was already buzzing!! I'm pretty sure Paul would have loved yesterday, re-igniting the flame for those heady nights at Pauls "Bradford Rare and underplayed soul nights and who knows, we may do this again sometime eh Janette ??

As you would expect the music was top drawer throughout the day, hats off to Steve Andrew's sound system, sounded the business.

With over £1000 raised for RSPCA Rochdale branch.

It was great to see Paul's partner David and Paul's sisters and meet up with people who I personally haven't seen for over 10 years!!

My mate Harry loved it, travelling down from Darlo to pay his respects, he loved it so much we had to shoe horn him out of the car(good stuff that stella) lol

I'm sure there will be a lot of pics from the day, please feel free to share on here!!

What a great day we all had. I'm pretty sure Paul would have loved it. The music was top notch throughout and plenty of dancers. Respect to Janette for organising this wonderful event, aided by many friends who I won't name so I can't miss anyone out. A great way to say farewell to one of the loveliest men on our scene. He won't be forgotten!!!
