Detroit Sounds Of Friction

I have this on a tape from Richards show from about '99 when I think Arthur was on as a guest, an utterley incredible Snaith sound for me with a heavy Jerry Butler influence.

However, thats all very well but I know sod all about said tune other than on my wage and recent events I'll never own oneunsure.gif .

I'm assuming very rare and exy. Has it ever been released on cd?

Where there any other releases by this group and who were they? Seems a shame they didn't have more success but we always say that don't we?

Frustrating to listen to on the old refosoul coz theres only about half of it on there.

From that hotbed of rare soul Lexington Kentucky. A pretty rare 45 that also exists on an even rarer white demo. Never used to do much for me years ago but has really grown on me relatively recently.

Thanks guys, I think 2k-3k may be a tad out of my range!

Anywhoo , at least the refosoul jedis' have helped me sleep a tad easier at nightthumbup.gif .

I'll have to make do with a shimmy at Yarmouth instead

Spent years asking for this in Detroit before i knew it came out of Lexington KY!

Found some good records in Lexington before now...seems to be a half black, half cowboy town. I remember Shifty and I went for a bite to eat at the resturant next to our hotel...after the meal we heard some (country) music playing and we asked the waitress if we were allowed to go into the bar for a drink. "Sure" she says "But you make sure you dont speak in there, those cowboys love to fight on a Friday night and if they hear your accent its you they will wanna fight with"! We had one drink...never said a word...then left!

Top tune, never had one and probably never will unless Ted leaves me one in his will!

When selling Poke's stuff for him back in the 80's there was one in the box, no one ever gave it a second glance - including me! Just goes to show what I know...

Think u'll find this was a Poke c/up circa 78, he played it as Mel Britt for a while. Soul Bowl of course had the copies at £30each. I remember Richard runnin round at Snaith one sunday trying to phone John to ask why he hadn't been offered one and i thought well its nice to know he doesn't get 1st pick on everything :rolleyes: . One of my all time fav's by the way. Arthur.

It was £12.00 when I got mine from Soul Bowl, it had been on my wants list for ages at the time. I was at Soul Bowl on the tuesday and it was on the pile for the next day's list, couldn't persuade John to sell it me, but I was up early next day to make sure I was the first to call... Sold it via JM a while ago, rather pleased with the outcome :P

a beat up copy went for about £300 on ebay about a month ago. i let it go coz i thought it would go for more. it wern`t that bad really

I've told this story a couple of times on here, usually in a different context, but here goes again. A good friend of mine bought this in the early 1980's off the bowl, off the rarities section, as it said "current spin" or "in demand" thinking it was Keb Darges "Vernon Garrett - This Is It I'm Leaving You Now" which was in fact "Ron Baxter - This Is It" but, obviously as it was covered up, we weren't to know that. Anyhow, he kept it, and a few years later dumped it in a local charity shop, when having a bit of a clear out, I don't think he ever took to the record, I suppose, at least he put it in a store, where someone else could enjoy it, one friend of mine used to smash up his unwanted 45's with a hammer - job done.
