a legit record and what is its current value?

Wasn't this a legit reworking done by Charles Diamond in the late 70s to cash in on its popularity on the scene? I know tha backdoor Kenny and i both made a mad dash for it at the Dome(?) many years back and current value approx £100 and think rarenorthernsoul.com have one. (oooh yes they do just checked)

Hi Paul,i used to have one,still there is only 4 known coppies.Value,well i think is how much your willing to pay,but first of all who out of the 4 lucky owners is going to sell.In my opinion iff someone will pay £9000 for a Don Gardener where would that put an Inspirations.Fantastic bit of kit though.Kind regards see you soon mate Gilly and Nicola

i think he means the pink breakthrough copy from 1977 which is a different take. it is legit and was put out by california gold ( worlds funkiest band etc).it appears to be in demand itself and has sold on ebay £75+ half a dozen times.people will make do with it because i think they realise a 60`s orange copy might not come their way

The re-issue was supplied to me by Joey Jefferson via Bob Cattaneo.

We were supposed to get a repress of the original version as on Breakthough but when it turned up it was the different version. I had a hell of a problem selling it.

I had the first copy in the UK on Breakthough and later - after paying him for the repress - went to visit Mr Jefferson after he promised me another copy. He duly pulled it out of a box (which he said contained more copies but wouldn't show us) but refused to sell it unless I flew him to London so I never got the record. Strange guy.

This is no rarer than any other 70's pressing and why people choose to spend so much money on it always baffles me, I was asking £20 for it only a year ago BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE TO RIP PEOPLE OFF, the last one I had was someone else's and they asled me to ebay it, I think it sold for £40. Way too much. F*cking brilliant record though.

my mate bob beasley gave one to me for my son to play with which he duly did. till a couple of years ago i found it in a box in the lobby. still in one piece and played ok so i flogged it for a tenner. it sold first time out in the box. got a shock when ive seen it on ebay goin for decent money.

Had this debate on here before but I agree with you that the only way you can get the alt take/70's one whatever is on the pink label so therefore it must be an original? Neil Rushton I'm sure can confirm this.

Unless I've been completely led up the garden path on this both versions were recorded at the same session, with different leads within the group.

Charles 'Diamond' Perry on the pink 70s release, Johnny Hendley (yes, that Johnny Hendley) on the super-rare orange 60s release. When Joey Jefferson was approached to put out the record again in the 70s he chose the Charles Diamond version. May have been that no master of the JH version survived or it may have been that he simply thought it was the better version.

To me the pink label version is a better record: the vocal on the other one is all over the place really.

Obviously from a collectibility point of view the orange label is one of the scene's true Holy Grails.
