I have no doubt that this Q as been asked before but .................................is it to late for at 50 to learn how to spin LOL;)

I can do most of the moves and can hold my own on the dance floor but I have never been able to spin, well kind of but 2 turns in and its a case of nearly on mi arse LOL.

Is there a secret or just practice...................................................................................................................................I am quite fit for mi age so Ive been told, what with doing a bit of martial arts and such but this spinning just eludes me.

Taking the P answers will be chuckeld at but more responsive answers will be thanked.

that's not me btw - I am a woman, and I am in Huddersfield - but I don't have a dance studio, or a studio of any other kind.

It really is very, very simple to learn how to spin. If you're right footed:

stand with feet together, then wrap your left leg round the back of your right leg so that your feet are together but on opposite sides, if you see what I mean. Then push off with the left foot in an anti clockwise direction and immediately go up onto your toes. Now you're spinning. Oops, now you've crashed into the table! But thats how you do it.

AUP MATE,ITS NEVER TO LATE TO LEARN,JUST START OFF STEADY BUILDING YOUR NUMBERS UP,THEN TRY GOING QUICKER,KEEP YOUR HEAD STRAIGHT,ALTHOUGH SOMEONE HAS TOLD HOW ITS DONE,I SPIN BACKWARDS,THE FALLING OVER PART DONT WORRY ABOUT THAT EVERYBODY FALLS OFF BALANCE OR OVER AT SOME STAGE,LOL,,

It's never too late to learn anything.

To spin it's a case of understanding a few basic principles:

1. Give your self plenty of space so that if/when you cream out you don't take out a table full of drinks like I did at Keele.

2. Don't show off to a camera crew who are filming a piece in your front room and boast how well you can spin then crash into your new plasma screen, like I did.

3. Wear the appropriate footwear so you can glide seamlessly over the sprung wooden dance floor, don't get pissed up and try to spin on a carpet at The Isle of Wight Scooter Rally like I did and rip your knee muscle coz it hurts for months.

4. Don't spin whilst wearing glasses as they become Kung Fu style missiles and hit your fellow dancers especially the eight foot Jock whose foot you stood on earlier.

5. Don't show off to a girl coz being sick after a good spin can often put people right off.

6. Avoid doing that tippy toppy on your toes not quite a spin but whizzing around none the less coz that just makes you look like a 50 year old bloke who wants to spin but can't.

Number 4................Ahhhhhhh, I wear bins so I will have them celotaped to mi head, so thats that solved.

Number 6................I know a bloke who does that but god bless him, hes a realy nice guy and Ive never seen him fall over yet.

ahhhh young john get yourself to rugby saturday night, i will show u how to fall over both ways, dont talk about it just do it, what ever spare minute you got just do a spin, then build up, in the shower spin, shopping with the missus spin, in bed spin, when you watching television in the lounge just do it, keep doing it, keep doing it, the world your oyster just go for it keep on spinning keeping on spinning. Funnily enough my balance is rubbish unless I've had 4 pints... never used to be like that when I was younger doing beam routines - perhaps I'm now suffering from too loud music on my nights out and in my car!

I'm the same mate. Even as a teenager I was s**t at spinning. I think you can either spin or you can't.....don't think you can learn. I would kill to be able to do the moves like that guy on the film......it must feel fantastic. Sadly I will never know.

You could tape your ears back if they're slowing you down - and use the same piece of tape to keep your specs on! ....Sorted.

John I've never done the spin thing ether well I do a low passing score,half to threequarter spin venturing past those angles gives me the frightening effect in a vision of the dance floor rising to hit my head .Used to be able to get up to two revs which went well with my two dance steps ,wiggle & kick. But time has chipped it back.

the body goes into reverso mode .So the ears thing is true partly.Its whats in-between the ears that counts.

now mine cant tell how tired my 60 yearold body is .Every now and then it tells the body nothing is impossible .

and for old spinners that can lead to abit of a car crash Glad im not one I've even put safety features into effect

My two steps are now one and thats one leg at a time. green dancin because of the reduced carbon foot print ..so John think before you take on the spin be happy with your steps for a long time to come.Hope you heed my advice .If you feel you need more there are choices

No you simply run out of momentum, a spin only last two or three rotations usually, unless you push yourself along which is cheating! If you want to stop dead it's just a case of planting both sets of toes.

Would'nt we all love to be able to spin like the black guy dressed in baggies and a black and yellow striped tee shirt in the Wigan footage. Cartwheel, splits then up and into it, around about 8 times. Brilliant ! Now he could spin and he wore moccasin slippers for fecks sake !! What was his name and is he still on the scene today ??

I agree, that guy was awsome, there is another lad in the same film, the lad with the dark hair and light bluish top on, it shows you a shot of him in slo mo and his eyes are looking upward On one ocasion he spins and bumps into another guy and says sorry, he also spins and when he stops he flicks his hair as to say "how cool am I"

Take your time and the more you practise the more you can control the dizziness.

I meant 'hearing' problems when I cited ear problems.. but you all knew that!

Think it depends on how fast you initially push off...................I remember Vernon from Bradford at The Casino.............he certainly did far more than two or three rotations...

and went so bloody fast, if you were dancing next to him the sweat used to whizz off him and give you a free shower!!!

Its usually my ears that keep me from bangin me head on the dancefloor when i try an spin..Just remember not to focus on anything or any one spot , because i found wherever my gaze lands thats where my head is most likely to end up.
