Been to quite a few soul dos at St Pats. Noticed on the flyer that it said Collectors Special. Could you please let me know what the music policy will be.

Thanks

Hi Beesoul

I expect the music on the night to be mostly Northern. The Collectors element of it will be that all the tunes played will be OVO. In that I mean if you hear The Del Larks, Gwen Owens, Bob & Fred, Al Williams, Robbie Lawson, Jimmy Mack, Two Poets, Jackie Beavers etc they will all be played from original vinyl. Also some 60's detroit things like Lorraine Chandler-You only live twice -if played will be from original acetate.

We aim to keep the dancefloor busy, but there will be a few quality early 70's played.

That's not to say there won't be any suprises.

To get Dave Moore, Tony Smith & Nick Brown on the same night is quite a coup for St Pat's, they are all avid Northern collectors who've been djing and promoting for many years, so if you like a mixture of Top quality 60's Northern, alongside Top quality Motown, and a splattering of 70's you won't be disappointed.

If you've been to St Pat's before you'll probably know Little Ian & Ciara, Ian has been picking up some nice 60's detroit things lately and i'd hope he'll be dropping some of those things in.

As I said in the beginning of the thread we had a similar night there for my 50th this year and everyone who came had a right old party.

Maybe the guys will come onto the thread and let us know a few of the tunes they'll be hoping to spin.

Hope this helps and we'll see you down there.

Best

Cheers for the recomendation Paul.

.....and I'd hope that if folks taking a break from dancing to the quality soul they'll be talking such b*&)*"ks as

"What was that bloke doing scrubbing out PEAK and writing SAINTMO on the records?"

"Where is Joy Lovejoy?"

"Has Nick Brown still got the acetate of that unissued Jackie Lee track and What is it called?"

"How much is a Jimmy Robbins on Impression?"

"Have you noticed how much the intro to Benny Troy sounds like Alan Partridge and what's the chance of him doing a cover version?"

or some such trivia.

I think this is gonna be fun.

This is going to be a fantastic night. It will be good to have a Hitsvile feel in South London. A tremendous line up and definitely some gems to be played.

Can't wait!

Just a slight change.

I've just been informed that we'll have to start the night at 8.00pm rather than 7.30 as there's mass in the church next door until 7.40pm but we'll be in there straight away and quality tunes will be played from the start.

No warming up or any of that stuff.

When they've filled their souls we'll begin filling ours!

Come early to get the most of what's going to be a cracking night.

Cheers

Father Kev

Hi There,

I'll be playing Northern, all tempos, from frantic stompers to the odd beat ballad, from 60s and 70s (maybe), rare 'uns and cheap 'uns, but only gud 'uns. wink.gif

I will not be playing RnB, Popcorn, Tittyshakers, Latin, Charted Motown, or any other derivitive masquerading as Northern. Just Northern. :D

Looking forward to it. Had a great night last time.:D

Regards,

Dave

I think woolwich has a tube station now?

Then a 10 min bus ride to plumstead high st

That would be the DLR from Bank or Stratford (East London) that goes to Woolwih Arsenal.

Jubilee line runs through. North Greenwich O2. and bus 422, 161 to Woowich but the best one is the 472 to Thamesmead which drives through Plumstead High St. All go from N. Greenwich. O2 to Plumstead by bus (15mins).

The Jubilee line links up with London Overground (Dalston to Crystal Palace) at Canada Water which is just a hop away from N. Greenwich O2.

Also there's mainline trains to Plumstead rail station from Charing X or London Bridge usually from platform 1. (30mins).

It's a 5/8min walk from Plumstead station to St Pat's -(up the High St and off left.)

If travelling on public transport & need any other info check the Transport for London website it gives all up tp date journeys/routes and average time of journeys.

Looking forward to this as I missed Kev's birthday event last year, will be checking back with a playlist (of sorts!) over the next few days.......

Nice one Tony. As its a 1st night event it's good to lay the table out as it were.

Sure there'll be some blinding Northern in the box.

Although last May was a party event and was great, this one will be a full blown Northern mayhem session, and everyone who knows you Tony knows you can more than fit that bill!

As I said it's gonna be a good one!!

Steady Ian......

I haven't bought anything this week Ian that would fit the St Pat's night. I've a backlog of stuff that I've had for a while but haven't had time to play out yet.

Most of the following and as I'll be doing the early spot I think they'll help set the style.

The Superiors 'I'd rather die' Sue

Joe Moore 'I Ain't' Verve promo

Chuck Bernard 'My Baby' Satellite

Jack Montgomery 'Baby, Baby, Take a Chance on me' Revue

Lillian Dupree 'Sheild Around My Heart' D Town

The Whispers 'Needle in A Haystack' Dore (original version) or 'The Dip'

Grover Mitchell 'I Gotta Keep Movin' Decca

The Cheers 'Mighty, Mighty Lover' Penny promo

Little Richie 'Just Another Heartache' SS7 promo

The Shirelles 'Wait til I give the signal' Scepter

Jay Rhythm ' Wouldn't it be a pleasure' Leo (blinding semi-known)

The Volumes 'I Got Love' Twirl (yellow)

Jimmy Burns 'I Tried' Minit promo

Porgy & The Monarchs 'Hey Girl' misspressed Musicor

J T Rythm ' My Sweet Baby' Palmer promo

Betty LaVette 'I'm Holding on' Big Wheel

On the beat ballad/more mid tempo side side of things for me it would possibly be things like..

Joe Hinton 'Don't Tell her The Truth' Abc Dunhill

Gino Washington 'Puppet on a string' Ric Tic

Glady's Knight 'Tell Her You're Mine' Maxx

Hope this gives an idea of what I might play on the 19th.

What bits are you offering up Ian?

Would be good to let people know a few tunes to get a feel of your tastes.

Keep it Northern though!

Hi Roman, hope you and Wendy are well. Yes, not been up for a while. Hopefully see you in the not too distant future.

Kev's been working hard on this one and it's looking like it'll be a really good night.
