Pooling Our Knowledge To Compile "new" Label Listings

As somebody that's been a long time fan of label listings a thought suddenly occured to me this afternoon.

Wouldn't it be a great idea if we could harness all that unbelievable array of knowledge, details, facts and figures from across all the members on here to compile listings of labels that haven't been done before?

And yes I know out there in internet land a few clicks on a search button will reveal all manner of label listings from the 1960's onwards across all the states of America.

But surely there must be dozens of weird and wonderful labels that haven't been documented yet - though off the top of mi head I can't think of any straight away..... (smile).

What say you?

The Kellmac label is well documented, but I don't know anyone who has ever seen that dreams 45 and don't know what the original source of that number was.

Here is the Kellmac from Dave's site. 1002 should be Roger Paschall. Roger had a later 45 with a pic sleeve, I think he's passed away now, but also think he was a member of the summits on united international. I have a double of the Paschall title to sell / trade if there's any label collectors here.

Yes, all the Kellmac numbers are filled in.

Is the Kenneth Wells :huh: Keni Wells? of The Impacts on DCP and is this the same Wells as New Voice.

no it's not the same person.

this Kenny Wells was a local chicago guy whose band played on those records. He's one of the 4 owners of the Lock label (He's the "k"). He is really nice but doesn't remember the combinations.

he also had a couple 45s under his own name and put out 3 modern 45s by a group called the gadgets

I had Michael, quiet a low quality recording.

I am collecting one label at the moment, have 6 on it 3 very nice records 2 dancers and a moralistic ballad but keeping my Gob shut till I get more. Seen a few LP's! not sure about collecting them yet?.

Think Dave Rimmers already doing this Derek. He's certainly got a head start on anyone else! Great resource that I'm sure people appreciate.

The R&B Indies 4 x volumes is one of the best things ever!

Combine that with the above site and all the various internet resources dunt leave much else that's not been covered?

On reading the Yodi label thread I suddenly thought has the Zudan label listing been done?

Some right little crackers on there - Earles Inc & Symphonic Four to name but two.

Also what about these labels:

La Louisianne

Renee (Wales Wallace, Cicero Blake etc) done

Crash (Steelers) done

I've had a quick search and can't find a topic about any of those labels, maybe individual posts in sale about one or other of the labels. I can do a more in depth search when not on mobile but if anyone wishes to start a topic on those or any other then please feel free to do so.

Don't forget, a topic on here can be more informative than most places, especially books. You can get sound pictures, boot details and artist details all in one place. As I said Roger I'm sure would archive any topic for easy access in Sharp End.

There is alreay a fantastic about of information and knowledge in Sharp End, a great resource to go with others mentioned.

Re: La Louisianne, what do you guys reckon the percentage of Cajun 45s is? Gotta be more than 50% cajun accordian shredfests on there, 75%?

Mmmm think you've a fair point there Kris - I knew next to nothing about this label apart from the odd 1 or 2 releases and then over the last 6 months or so I noticed some oddball funk things on the label fetching big figures on Ebay.

There's more to this label than meets the eye I thought, wonder what else is tucked away on there, hence my suggestion.

But on digging about a bit I did come across a fair few - as Kris states - cajun accordian shredfests which did sorta dampen my enthusiasm to start compiling a listing for the label somewhat.

Oh well.

Co-Co (Lou Ragland) in fact has the myriad of these small 1-2-3 release labels throughout Cleveland ever been covered in depth?

Derby City (Heartbreakers)

Front Page (Lee Moses)

Pearltone (Freddy & Sounds Of Soul)

Not sure without looking Derek, will do so later when I get the chance.

For the other listings you've posted if ok with you I'll split them and give em their own topic.

I've split the Crash and Renee labels and the talk about those labels into their own topics, they will simply get lost otherwise.

Can I ask if going to talk about klabels or a family of labels to start a specific topic. Makes life much easier.

Ill ask Roger to archive them sometime inthe future for safe keeping and ease of search.
