If this session was cut just a few months later, this Philly beauty would have come out on the iconic ARCTIC label, as this is a Dyno-Dynamics production from the Arctic Teamsters, transforming Gene Chandler's Curtis Mayfield.

This rare 45 benefits from a full girl-group harmony support, Honey & The Bees we suspect and typical vibe and horn arrangement decorated by a Mike Terry style prompting baritone sax (Mike guested on many Philly sessions) so it could have be the Sax-God himself. All my educated guesses add up to a killer Philly Northern Soul that outstrips any big ticket girly tune you care to mention.

i`d agree pete..collecting black issues is a very specialist collectors market. most would settle for original white demos..............and theres tons of em.. just a note, because this is probablty the dearest demo we assume this to be the dearest issue. but i think some of the £20 demo`s on rca have rarer stock counterparts than this one

After months of nagging, I gave up and sold it on to him.

Did manage to get a US copy to replace it though.

Is it "Drive On James" that folk want it for now, coz back in the day it was "I'm Gonna Be Somebody Someday" that he wanted it for.
