Does anyone else remember The Dooleys being launched on Nationwide (I guess about 1976) as the UK's first 'home grown' Northern Soul group?

There was footage of them dancing on what I think was an empty Wigan floor - wasn't long after Nationwide did a feature on the Casino.

Funnily enough if you think about Love of My Life and the cheesier end some of the pop-disco sounds around in that period... Long Gone etc.

I even compiled one of the group's tracks for the North of Watford CD series.

Lovely 70's Pop. Northern Soul....nah.

People seem to be thinking I think they're Northern!...

I was pointing out the joke of it, but you could see them trying to cash in given the sound of something like Debbie Fleming and The Street People - You're My One Weakness.

I've got a US Epic Demo of 'Wanted' by them, if you're thinking of starting to collect Dooleys rarities...

...actually 'Wanted' isn't a bad record as Abba rip-offs go...

The Dooleys did the theme for the BBC's "On The Move" - a series for adults with reading difficulties in 1975. Anyone remember it?

That's the one!

They were based in Manchester in the mid/late 70s. One of them (Alan?) used to sometimes drink in my local, the Hunt Lane Tavern, Chadderton, Oldham.

Always in the lounge bar though - never the vault...

The two birds looked like seventies porno stars not that I'd know but a rough guess would put them in the company of Linda Lovelace and Mary Millington.Regards Mr.Rayner.
