Kev ==== a good one i think would be a real retro night with all the old sounds from the days of wigan and the mecca not the same old oldies but alot of the forgotten stuff in a no nonesense ,no pressure to fill the floor nite that you can just go back to for one night only, probably the only one that thinks so but hey regards mark Link to comment
Guest Baz
What about a student theamed night! forget dance floor etecit(to an extent), talc, oldies, newies, wigan, stafford, mecca, ect. Advertise around campuses with a cheap entrance for NUS cards, and just give them uptempo soul and R&B for the night. Might even recrute a few new faces to this scene Just a thought like Link to comment

John Elias
Howzabout a night where ALL the dj's are either unknown or /and up and coming who have a box full of quality non played out oldies which are 100% original and a nice across the board spot There are plenty of us out there who would like to share their moment with fellow soulies without having to kiss the proverbial arse. Guest in town Mikey
I'd like to see a niter where guys who used to play regularly were brought back. Who knows it might re-kindle their enthusiasm. I'm thinking names like Gary Rushbrooke, Ady Pountain (Tho he may be jocking in Aus??), Tony Clayton, Ian Clarke, Shifty even I think he is doing scooter rallys? It would be an oldies night to keep the regulars happy, but it would be the guys who actually broke the records playing them again. That might be a good night. Link to comment

There's plenty of good DJ's who get pigeonholed into allegedly being only able to play one kind of music, and it's understandabe to a degree because most DJ's specialise, but the majority of the good ones in truth could play a decent set of most genres from 60s to 'modden'. Roger I'd love to hear Dodger play a Northern set Piece of piss mate, I've got every Goldmine release in the attic!! No Mp3's allowed How about an 'across the board' attitude to accompany the music played . . . it IS 2006 after all . . . Link to comment

OK, I've got a couple of Keb Darge's CD's somwhere mate!! I wasn't specifically talking about myself Simon, I'm sure it applies to many DJ's, both on the northern scene and the modern scene, and whether or not any DJ can unpigeonhole themselves depends on (a) where they get booked and b ) whether they want to or not (I'd imagine most would be happy to have go). And why would I want to play deep funk or northern r&b come to that, they're both shit. Cheers Roger Edited March 22, 2006 by Dodger Link to comment

The only thing that would stop a genuine across the board one room all nighter working with the music spanning the 60s to present day is people who's attitude still resides in the 1970s mate. But let's not let this thread degenerate into another pointless debate eh? I made a suggestion and a tongue in cheek one-liner about music I don't like, that was all. Link to comment
