See there is the usual flurry of 100 Club Anniversary singles out today

 

The price seems to be 60 quid all of a sudden - just wondered why   

 

Many previous anniversary singles can still be bought for less than this today, even some of the 'better' ones - I know they are all good

 HI ALL....Yes it is topical and also typical of todays SOUL SCENE, I was shocked last week, when I saw an advert asking £200 for the 100 CLUBS #14 International TKO's, great 45, 

I wonder how much that was selling for the next day. more to the point why sell the record, I think all the 100 CLUB 45s look better when they are all together on the shelf many times I have spent a hour playing them all, also ass ADY gives these 45s away free, how many people who sell them on buy the man a drink and say thank you?  DAVE K

I have a spare copy for sale of this year's anniversary single (£60 including second class postage, PM me).

 

However, it was bought on the night, quite deliberately as a record to sell on. Interestingly Dave, I know you don't attend the 100 Club anymore, so someone must have sold you a copy of each years single for you to have a full collection.

 

And yes, I did buy Ady a pint on Saturday night

 HI ALL....DAVE, DAVE I think you to quick in your assumption, and at no time did I mention anyone name, also it's a free country, you can do what you want with your record my son, not sure how you got the extra one? As for getting Ady a pint on the night is great, but when I said get him a pint it was a metaphoric statement, what is a fact I don't go to the 100 CLUB anymore, if someone wants to put me on the guest list I promise I will be there, my records have come from Mick & Ady who I have known for many years I give a donation to the "I will get the next pint in society of London & the home counties" as a old school skinflint, I could always lift a copy from a new kid on the block, give me lift mate next year if you like  DAVE K

I sold my wifes copy of the TKO's for £20 (may have been £15 it is so long ago) a couple of days later at Willington, still got mine though 

Just playing the Tokays what a tune. Worth going for that.

Great collectors item's althou my copy's  have been drifting out of the box for a few years now, I didn't have them all so thought what's the point.

 

By the way! Ady's new Nancy Wilcox acetate must have the best sax break ever,

Haven't heard the anniv 45 yet but if it's the same track as on the Dave Hamilton CD it's a) brilliant and b) by the Brute group.

Personaly I think its a fair starting price for this one ,,, especially if you could not attend etc,,, PLUS,, isn't the Number wrong or something like that,,, I can see this only rising in price into 3 figures by this time next year once the frenzy is over,,,

 

Spook mentions the TKOs,,, Daz McQueen a fellow member on here sold one on EBay a year or so ago,,,for about £130 im sure he will correct me with the price,,, my old copy of the TKOs is on Lee Jefferies site for £200 , mind you its been there for months   ,,,

 

So I for one wanna to see how this one develops,,,i don't know why by a few of these 100 club anni singles do seem to attract higher prices than other,,, but this one with the mistake on the label is ripe for future sill prices me thinks

I don't want to appear to knock any parties here, just wanted a bit of debate. The fact that there were copies of this for sale, the very next morning got me wondering about capitalism at work... 

 

The night costs £20 to get in, it's usually £12 - so the free single costs £8. Does this make people more likely to sell them, to recoup their costs if they're not collectors? If the singles are worth £50 immediately AFTER the night, is there any reason why Ady shouldn't just up the door price to £50? If people want to keep their singles, great. If they want to sell them, they've had a great free night out?

 

Selling the free singles just seems to reek of opportunism, really. If nobody buys the spares for £50 and instead reasons "the night cost £20 to get in, I'll pay you £20 - you've had a free night out, I've got a rare single" then everyone's happy - maybe I'm being a bit naive.

 Times are hard. At the moment the 100 Club is the only event I regularly support, but I couldn't afford £50 to get in - free single or no free single.

 

The girl who was stopped from binning her 45 and gave it to someone then returned to give him her friends copy too - I wonder if she's reading this thread?

Some people pay a lot of money to not fly from Gurnsey to not be on the dance floor,  even train fares cost a small fortune now adays. If you want to sell or keep the record its one own choice.

You use to be able to pick up the 45's off the floor at the end of the night.

I got my spare up first I think on sunday, I normally sell my spare for £50, but it was a better coupling than last year so I rated it at £60...  looks like folk saw I'd made that and followed suit, as they always do with buying and selling 45's on here... these 45's are always in demand, we all know that, and if you want a copy on the sunday after 50ish is normally the asking price has been for 3/4 years now..

 

 I still need 6/7 for the full set, and I wouldn't pay over 60/70 for one personally...so there you go, all the new 45's have sold for 60, so its worth that isn't it...

Think you may be a bit naive, what next record dealers limited to a 10% profit margin. Not everybody collects records always going to be some come up for sale, Market dicates the price, first copy sells for £60, that's what people will look for. That's record collecting for you. 

Rumour has it that due to the label mis-print Ady is destroying all spare copies of this 45 and handing out a different new release as the 'official 34th Anniversary' single in the very near future.

45 or no 45 the 100 club is a place I will always give my support to.

Ady has kept it going through the good and the bad times and during that time has brought some fantastic tunes to the decks. It costs me over £100 to get there and back (when my flight doesn't get canceled) and its worth every penny.. I treasure my Anniversary singles as I do the night that goes with it, But if someone wants to sell their copy, its up to them, at least we can then fill the few gaps in our 100club collection for the ones we couldn't get to..
