Allnighter Dates Clashing can anything be done?

 

Why do some Allnighter dates clash and is there anything practically that can be done to prevent this happening or is this just a regrettable reality?

 

Can we have this discussion without it turning into a pie fight please x 

It because some promoters are just plain selfish and couldn't give a sh*t about anyone else.

Not all nighters are quality worth attendance think about it !!!!

Some of the promoters won't even talk to each other let alone work together to avoid dates clashing!

Culprit? clashing with who?  If you mean Skeggy, we have had the last Saturday in the month for ten years, never clashed with anyone, Skeggy was always earlier up till last year when it moved it date.....I know for a fact it was earlier because Lifeline DJ's worked for Dave and Donna.  Dave and ourselves have talked and sorted this for the future.

That wasn't the reason I was told, Lifeline has been running 11 years,Skeggys been running 15 years, oh was the reply & as Lifeline had moved to a new venue suddenly, surely knowing Skeggy dates months & months prior to moving then something could have done? The rare room was after the same people I think.When Phil K ran Burnley I know for definite he moved nights more than once & Lifeli e never once reciprocated. So it makes all parties as guilty.

Are we talking Allnighters in the same region here? There are so many events nationally, occasional clashes are inevitable. For promoters in the same region to hold events on the same night is plain daft if the clientele would attend both events if held on different nights. Could be a power struggle that ultimately benefits no one if events are poorly attended. The very fact that this topic has popped up indicates a lack of cooperation between promoters - let's hope this can be remedied in future.

Hi Roy, agree with what you say.

Turning it on it's head a bit, and asking the original poster of this question. If one of your favourite all nighters clashed with an existing night, and were in the wrong - would you go, with the attitude "I just want a good night out, and don't really care" or would your principals stop you from going? All hypothetical, but interesting from a "customers" point of view. Unfortunately I have a bias to promoters I like and get on with, and luckily they're fairly principaled, but if they weren't

Had plenty of run ins over the years bout clashes,sometimes in the right sometimes in the wrong.Truth is a lot are guilty of contributeing to clashes and theres always 2 sides to the story,so unfortunately theres bugger all can ever be done about it.Some of the clashes are made out to be far more of a problem than they are,as it affects only a small section of the scene.In the end people will go were they want,not were a few on here tell em they should go.

Being realistic, if there are two nighters on at the same time, how badly does that really affect attendance? The number of regular nighter goers is dwindling, most of the nighters I go to, half the crowd are gone by 2 anyway, and thereafter there's a steady disappearance until at the end there's very few there. The point I'm making is it's not like the old days, it's not even like 15 years ago, people tend to go to what's nearest or what's playing the sort of sound they want to hear. Is there any evidence that if a particular nighter moved their date, another nighter would suddenly benefit hugely in attendees, I'm not talking 10/20/30 bodies, I'm talking hugely. Maybe some of the promoters can answer??

matters not .........we have passed nighters to go to burnley...........if it,s quality it will not bother people

Too many prams with toys missing , grown men with no morals, no class and a lack of SOUL... Let's have the thoughts from ALL the all niter promoters, maybe then we can avoid yet another one of these threads... I guess that some will choose to stay silent ???... What about more genuine punters without bias to shed some light on this??? That could get us a better view..

Simon did the same topic on a well known social networking site, and I don't think there were any resolutions there either, which gives the impression there is nothing that can be done to avoid clashes!

If, as you say, clashes are inevitable, is it a major problem?  Who loses out, the promoters, the punters or both?  Given a choice of two nighters, most punters are going to opt for the one they prefer, or if they like both, they'll probably go for the one that is closer to home.  From a promoters point of view, if you find your event clashes with someone else's, then you may have to try a little harder to attract the punters.  If you're a punter, then you may be spoilt for choice, which surely can't be a bad thing?

I look at dates of similar clubs like Rugby and Lifeline and try and avoid, sometimes a clash can't be avoided but its usually ok. It is worse for me if there's a good local evening do on

A good number of allnighter promoters swap each others' dates so as not to clash. But now there are so many new ones starting up, there are just not enough weekends in the year to prevent clashes. Free country though.

 

Oh & Dave Rimmer runs an allnighter planner on ss but not everyone goes on there.

 

After a bit of debate, I posted again...

 

Never an easy answer as everyone is "in it" for different reasons. The getting together once a year before defo wouldn't work for us as we have to book at least 4 years in advance. Best is for everyone to do as they are doing now...you pays your money, you make your choices.

 

So, that's my input.

Only one problem I see with the more choice Steve is that when two "good" venues are on, mates are split on where to go. Shame when that happens.

I have the biggest laugh when I read on Facebook about crappy handbagger and nostalgia nights moaning about clashes. Who cares?

That's life.  You can't please all of the people.  I've got a batch of unsold T-shirts from the '80's.  Maybe by adding Line to the end I could sell them on.....

 

Well, glad it didn't turn into a pie fight at any point like the poster asked, as for him throwing a hand grenade... the 1st reply of Chalkys was an all out missile strike!

Recently had a similar dilemma (last Saturday in the month & a bank holiday weekend) we liked several venues, all the promoters have great music philosophy and always ensure you were in for a good dance. I don't think any one event set out to deliberately compete or undermine the other venues it was just the way the calendar fell. All the venues being worthy of support we managed the situation.

Event 1 Day & evening (Highfield in Wigan) we attended 3pm to 6pm

Event 2 Evening (Northern Line in Warrington) we attended 8pm to midnight

Event 3 Evening & nighter (Stubshaw in Wigan) we attended 12.30 to 4am

The last half hour at Stubshaw; Ian Wills played proper uptempo tunes and its a good job it was a short slot otherwise Wigan infirmary could have received a couple of coronary cases. We are not 18 anymore

We had a great day and night leaving us with well satisfied - Thanks to all the promoters and dj's for the keeping us royally entertained with a plethora of quality music. My only regret was we couldn't spend more time at each venue - need to loan the tardis from Dr Who.

The only down side was my feet were absolutely buggered on the Sunday.

Gotta agree with this........it should be obvious to most nighter folk..........who is doing it err just for the dosh and couldn,t give a hoot about being   proper.

Sadly though,it seems the bigger the do,the more glitzy/cheesy it is........people will abandon their usual venue and go to it........keele being a prime example of a very poor do run badly by people who,s only motive is the money....hey presto  rammed

I do have loyalty but that is a two way street and the dance floor is my litmus test not to be confused with my own interpretation of the quality line.

I was telephoned by a promoter who can name him self if he so wishes, I shall not.

 

The phone call was made to me after a Nighter had clashed and I listened intently at concerns and we discussed if anything could ever be done.

 

We debated a scheme and a voluntary code of conduct, all have been tried on the Scooter Scene with National Scooter Runs clashing with break away runs and this didn’t work.

 

I said that I would start a dialogue on here to see if there was any ground to be gained from the promoters.
