They just changed the design of the Harry J label, so both that and Liquidator can be found on the green one and the white one.  There's also one that not that many people know, it originally came out on Escort without the string overdubs and didn't do a lot.  The one with strings is miles better in my opinion.  This is the Jamaican original below

That "copyright control" logo with a "#" and "b" on each side of a "Treble/G-clef" can be found on many 45's pressed in Holland.

Can you locate a three-digit number in the run-out grooves?

If you can find the number "670" machine stamped then it definitely is a Holland pressed 45.

If not, which numbers can be found?

Without strings, OG miles better IMHO !

Without strings, OG miles better IMHO !

It sounds so empty without the strings, same as Pat kelly - How Long Will It Take.  Can't bear either of the no strings versions.

Yah Pete, in the end I got so (over) worn out of to the strings things and I do agree that they are an "efficient" adding thing. Sometimes. But raw they are OG and fresh (good change) pay back as they were the first time around in fact. Great tunes in the first place that got killed by the over "exploitation" they had to strive can get a "new" fresh re-birth when discovering them a "second" time around "rawer" for-skined if I can say so… !  :shhh:

If I may add with all genuine and true respect Pete (if you do prefer the added strings things), I always was in wonder about the better or what purpose they did those things in the end;… when it comes to cut the… like toppings, WHY ? If the food is good, toppings are a spoil ! But when the spice is incorporated as part of the recipe then there's no need for toppings ! It's not a string "for or against" thing.

HI All The history of what was released on the PHILIPS/FONTANA labels in the UK is a minefield,

The best way to look at it is- UK pressing plants, UK labels that the company had under it's umbrella,

Such as the ISLAND group including specialist SOUL & REGGAE labels.

Getting a HIT RECORD was it's priority, this bought about many anomalies for the different labels.

record keeping is also a minefield, trying to locate what had a UK release is different to what was available, their are still many gaps to be filled in all labels, so there could be big discoveries to be found, SOUL PSYCHE REGGAE,

YOUNG GIFTED & BLACK is a UK pressing, for home & export, that's all I know, the record has had hit status with BOB & MARCIA original copies were released on the new HARRY J label however rather than printing new labels when the record become a hit, they used the old labels, they did the same with the "liquidator" I have original B&C DEMOS of both with skeleton capital A, the same as what was used on the ACTION red & yellow label.

to recap there are many parts to the sum! that don't add up for example not a PHILIPS/FONTANA release, but I will use to explain is the 2 Desmond Decker hit on Pyramid both had releases on JJ RECORDS "A IT MEK"6054 is the original release the hit is a different take, yet the JJ copy of ISRALITES is similar to YOUNG GIFTED & BLACK coming out on a green label HARRY J RECORDS, the copy on ESCORT was released by PAMA records on a different deal altogether, that's the Jamaican way, 1 item at a time,

HOPE THIS HELPS????? DAVE K

the UK radio wouldn't play the 'ethnic' versions so the strings were added to appease BBC radio one - consequently the records got airplay and made the charts.

Can't believe 'Young Gifted and Black' would have been allowed to be released in South Africa at that time....

Not much to add however ; here is the large centre Holland press with Machine Stamped 670

Does have Made In Holland on the label but has no Anti-Slip around label as expected on a UK Press

Different pressing plant to the scan on 45cat

Looks much nicer with the Three Prong Centre to be Honest
